“Have not refunded my ticket as promised”

I booked a ticket online and selected a ticket for 6.30am instead of 6.30pm (18.30, this cost me £21.20. I phoned customer service to ask if they could change the time of my ticket as I selected the incorrect time. The customer service assistant said that they can only give me a refund if I send them a letter enclosing the tickets. I did just as instructed on the same day. I had to rebook and pay for a ticket for a correct time. I waited 13 days and the money was not paid in my account… Read Full Review

“Appalling service”

Another cynically manipulated journey yesterday morning from Andover to Waterloo with barely room to turn sideways. Useful precursor to the sweltering tube though and to be fair, someone has to ensure that they remain afloat. “Filthy, surly and contemptuous of customers”

South West Trains is a disgrace. It is impossible to book a bicycle place online, though this would save everyone's time. You have to phone. This often means a ten minute wait for someone to bother answering. Then they usually can't speak proper English and you have to spell Wiltshire - yes, "Wiltshire" - because they've never heard of it. Finally they tell you the train is full - which turns out to be false when you get aboard. Absolutely rubbish. No wonder people prefer to drive… Read Full Review

“Standing, rammed...”

All train services by the very nature of what they do suffer occasional unforeseen overcrowding. South West Trains have a deliberate overcrowding policy, leaving it to the long-suffering guards to apologise day after day. It's not poor line management or even gross incompetence, but a purely cynical exercise for which South West Trains richly-rewarded directors are only too happy to encourage. “Ball ache! ”

Absolute ball ache! No sign at lymington station to say it was cancelled and we had to get a bus, so me missed that! The staff where about much use as a chocolate tea pot. Great sounding £ return offer - til you try to book to stations on the map. Why have stations on the map you can't travel to? You can't even get to London Waterloo. Supposedly the stations need to be run by Southwest Trains. There are enough SWT signs @ Waterloo to sink a battleship!! Why book to Vauxhall? Looking forward to going to Bath - can't as in a slightly different colour on the map - well don't include the places you can't get to.....It ain't rocket science. This bunch must surely be the worst rail company in the country. Trains rarely, if ever on time. That's if they actually turn up. If you're lucky enough to get on one of their trains be prepared to sit in packed dirty carriages. Oh and if the train is delayed good luck finding a member of staff to ask what''s going on. “Customers are treated so badly”

For about the fifth time in a year, the Weymouth train which was running over an hour and a half late dumped all of its pasengers at Bournemouth. No explanations, no announcements, no staff to help. The train behind was cancelled and passengers as usual were left fuming. I am so glad that south west trains are loosing their franchise. “A feeble excuse for a railway.”

Trains are always late, guards/train managers are frequently rude and treat you like a criminal even if you have bought a ticket. Leaving Exeter St Davids or Central both have ticket barriers so I don't see the need to check tickets. Trying to get a train from Pinhoe is just tediously stupid, there is only a train every two hours, then again even those are always late. This company needs to be stripped of its franchise because they obviously cannot run a railway. I find it a one massive joke… Read Full Review

“Terrible service worst ever”

South west trains are terrible. The money they are making and running such a bad service. You need to wait for a train around 20 minutes in the morning or evening sometimes half an hour. Often you hot delays and of course trains are overcrowded to give an example Train to Epsom Downs. How could they not improve their service any European country is far better then this medieval trains the so called South west service is running and only thinking about the costs of their service they are making… Read Full Review

“No information, when you need it.”

There was a disruption to the service, but until you got on a train that was not marked for Portsmouth, there was no info on how to get to Portsmouth. Then the driver tells us that we will need to get a bus at haslemere, to havant, and catch another train. I got the bus and the driver told us similar info, I got off the bus and while everyone else on the bus either filed away or got in a cab, I went to the train station, waited for the train to arrive at 01.16 ish, it didn't come and it says… Read Full Review

“depressing in so many ways”

Frequently late trains, poor stations with faulty ticket gates, over priced shops open for limited hours a day. Trying to get a ticket refund seems to be pot luck whether they will respond. “Too many faults.!”

This is not the first time this company has let me down, firstly had one of the employees take photos and filmed myself and school children whilst waiting the train!!! I complained and nothing was resolved (there's a shock ) now just been fined for no reason the staff are beyond a joke and trying to give customer feedback is impossible it's very much the customers fault not the company AS a company they need training on customer service and cleanliness. “New trains”

So we have waited for so many years for the new stock of trains, I remember when the old carriages with manually opening doors were phased out to be replaced by the existing poorly designed carriages. So I expected improvements based on feedback from customers. I'm very surprised at how Sw trains have managed to commission even more poorly designed trains. “Inadequate, poor value”

I travelled First Class. It was not a First Class experience. There were no refreshments were available for over an hour after departure from Exeter. There was no power in the carriage, so I could not see to read properly nor could anyone charge their laptops/phones - not the first time this has happened to me on this service. “Brilliant service”

I travel from epsom to guildford and back nearly everyday and never ever have any trouble with the service. The trains are always clean, the staff are always friendly and I have never been delayed, I have been getting this line for nearly 2 years! I'm a very happy customer - with the added bonus of my rail card giving me extra discounts. The only downfall is there is no plugs!
