“Southern -Delayed-or-Cancelled Rail”

Written on: 25/05/2016 by Haysrj155 (1 review written)

A company with intransigent management at war with its staff, rolling stock and customers is the optimal state to run an unreliable service, Southern (delayed and or cancelled) Rail demonstrable just doesn't care how bad its customer experiences are. Cancellations without explanation occur at random intervals everyday so that regular commuting becomes a nightmare for those who have to use Southern to connect to more modern and reliable services - in my case to Ashford. On this run they like to… Read Full Review

“Rude staff, overcrowded, constant delays”

Written on: 22/05/2016

Southerns Trains treat passengers with complete and utter contempt. Ticket staff, conductors and guards are either rude or incompetent or both. Standard class is constantly overcrowded yet seats in first class remain empty. Trains never arrive on time, are cancelled at the last minute, and are horrendously filthy. As a commuter to London from Sussex, Southern trains are blight on my life. Please can someone in the Government grow a pair and do something about this travesty of a company… Read Full Review

I went to work during both strikes and yeah, hardly noticed the difference from so-called normal days: trains were overcrowded and subject to delays and cancellations at the last minute. Business as usual!

“Worst. Service. Ever.”

Written on: 16/05/2016 by Frazzlaar96 (1 review written)

Where do I start with Southern Railways? I live in Seaford and go to college in Lewes. Unfortunately I have to use Southern because there's no bus from my town. Southern rail is constantly delayed, services cancelled throughout the day. In the past 3 weeks alone I have missed an average of about 6 days of college because of this awful service. If there's not a shortage of conductors, there's a fault on the line. If there's not a fault on the line then there's a conductor strike (one coming up… Read Full Review

“Delayed or cancelled every single time ”

Written on: 12/05/2016 by 1Underwood (1 review written)

I use southern train in the evening to travel between Wimbledon and Tulsehill once or twice a week since Jan 16. There has not been a single occasion when the service has run on time. It's either delayed or cancelled. Worst of all the train lines!… Read Full Review

“Commuting”

Written on: 04/05/2016 by CristoferMcNeil (1 review written)

I have been using Southern Trains for 9 years. the service has got steadily worse. The number of cancellations is phenomenal. Victoria trains around 5pm out of Portsmouth are cancelled 2/3 times a week. Yesterday evening all the Victoria and Brighton trains were cancelled.

Staff don't even bother now to say why. SW Trains are clearly getting fed up with having to convey Southern passengers as far as Havant. Feels now like the whole franchise is in meltdown.

This morning 5 out of 6 trains early

“Appalling service from a horrendous company ”

Written on: 18/04/2016 by Zosiaburgess (1 review written)

This train company is without doubt the most incompetent service provider I have ever experienced. Some examples :Constant delays and cancellations, not enough drivers, lack of information and a total disregard for its paying customers. The almost constant shutdown of the Brighton section at the weekends due to engineering work is a disgrace. I pay over £4000 a year to be told that each weekend I am expected to use the bus replacement service and that even though I paid to use the train I… Read Full Review

“Worst of the worst”

Written on: 19/02/2016 by Matttindal (1 review written)

This one star review is far too generous for a rail company that delivers nothing more than delays, cancellations, and utter frustration to its customers. Even more insulting is the inflated prices they demand for such dismal service. Poorest of the poor. Commuters deserve better… Read Full Review

“So so so unbelievably poor”

Written on: 29/01/2016 by Crist0feer (1 review written)

I don't even commute from London, short journeys home along the coast are always subject to cancellations, ridiculous delays at a shockingly consistent rate, not to mention the ghastly prices they charge us and the staff are horrendous (I would use another word but it would be deemed innappopriate) they actually feel like an evil dictator, I have no choice but to use this service and it needs to be replaced very soon, they keep making promises that don't happen and the service is getting worse… Read Full Review

“Barmy new website”

Written on: 25/01/2016 by P.Mahony (1 review written)

I tried to book from East Croydon to Lewes. I was coming from London Bridge but my travel card took me as far as East Croydon. This very very difficult task is not possible without I get off my train at East Croydon, collect my ticked and then get the next train. Unfortunately I had already paid. They couldn't send me my ticket, They couldn't email me my ticket, I couldn't talk to the manager because he would merely repeat all the 'not possible' comments or the manager wasn't there (despite… Read Full Review

“Rude Staff, Very Overpriced, Absolutely Appalling Service”

Written on: 25/01/2016

I am absolutely disgusted with Southern Rail. I feel so sorry for anyone who is not lucky enough to have an alternate to Southern Rail. I am horrified at the fact that Southern Rail put their prices up every year yet this is the service they provide. Absolutely disgusting trains. They treat us like we are cattle, trains are so overcrowded that you can barely move. Almost everyday my train is cancelled because apparently the sun is too bright according to BBC news. We are never given a decent… Read Full Review

“Worst train service around London”

Written on: 07/01/2016 by Santanu (1 review written)

I use Southern every working days to go to Brighton and believe me, it is surprisingly consistent on being always delayed or cancelled; one or another due to either signal failure or staff shortages or some other reasons. They return your fare only if they are more than 60min late. Normally they are below 60min late for that reason. If you have options to use other train services, please use them and always avoid Southern. I can't as I have to… Read Full Review

“Overpriced and shockingly bad service”

Written on: 05/01/2016 by 1956Schofield (1 review written)

I commute from Redhill to London Bridge every day. In 20 years of commuting I must say that the current service is the worst it has been. There are daily delays, cancellations and chaos both on the trains and stations. The trains are overcrowded and commuters are often treaded like cattle. If any other company was run like this the board of directors would have been removed. To rub salt into the wound, my monthly ticket is 320 pounds, which frankly is a rip off for a 20 mile journey each way… Read Full Review

“No Drivers! No Customer Service! devoid of any Ethics!!!”

Written on: 29/12/2015 by jxBrennan208 (1 review written)

This company conducts itself in an entirely unacceptable manner. Their timetables are meaningless, they almost never get you to your destination on time, if at all, their staff, if you can find any, either don`t know anything about their scheduled and replacement services or they are all in on some kind of joke I don`t find funny at all. regularly for the past three months their trains have been cancelled due to a `staff shortage` which is no excuse in the short term let alone such a long… Read Full Review

If I have understood you correctly, there is no 10day rule, you have 28days. See this below from Southern's passenger charter:

Take it to passanger Focus if they still refuse a refund.

15.4 Refunds
All tickets, other than season tickets
If the train you planned to catch is delayed or cancelled and you decide not to travel, you can return your unused ticket (except season tickets) to a station run by the operator you bought it from or the relevant retailer for a full refund. At a station run by us we will give you a full refund immediately if we can. No administration fee will
be charged.
If the train service is running normally and you decide not to travel you can apply for a refund at a station run by the operator you bought it from or the relevant retailer. You must do this within 28 days of the expiry of the ticket’s validity. Our staff will tell you if your ticket is eligible for a refund. You may have to pay an administration charge not exceeding £10.

“Making McDonalds look like the MI6”

Written on: 24/12/2015 by Joseph456 (1 review written)

Going from Haywards Heath to Brighton I have had 5 punctual trains in the last 3 months. The service is slightly better in the morning, but I guess that around 5 o'clock, employees would rather just have a chilled one. I'm still shocked that "no available driver" is such a commonly used excuse for why the train didn't show up. I wish I got paid to spend the day wamking between episodes of Dr Who. It appears that Christmas time is when they bring out all the sharpest employees. Making a 20… Read Full Review

“Sorry, did you just say Southern Rail or Southern Fail?”

Written on: 19/12/2015

14 months have been passed since I first take Southern Rail trains from Sutton to Clapham Junction. To be fair, the morning services are basically punctual this year (2015). However, the return journey in the evenings from London is a continuous nightmare that you cannot wake up. I am definitely trying to avoid any Southern Rail lines when I move next time… Read Full Review

“worse train service in the Uk”

Written on: 18/12/2015 by Jovany418 (1 review written)

I use southern train everyday to work.It is never on time and it gets cancelled at the very last minute.I am very convinced it is the worse train service in the country. What happened today is bizarre the trains were delayed for more than half an hour.It was later announced one will be in West croydon in twenty two minutes time. When the twenty two minutes was up the time was again extended on the the departure board, then after ten minutes it was announced again the train has been diverted to… Read Full Review

“Worst train company ever”

Written on: 17/12/2015 by Ogdentp239 (1 review written)

I can't believe Southern and Southeastern are still in business (they probably fake their results when the franchise is due to expire). I commute from South East coast every day either by Southern or Southeastern (same company, two different names) and the trains are constantly delayed or cancelled, in fact I can't remember when I arrive at Clapham Junction on time last time. I can understand that these are due to a broken train or signalling problems but what I find appalling is very very… Read Full Review
