“Impressively Terrible”

Written on: 14/08/2014 by ctDwyer278 (1 review written)

Things wrong with Arriva; Trains are unreliable Lack of information when trains are late/cancelled One of the most expensive in Europe They charge 16 year olds 'adult tickets' I a train is cancelled it won't be replaced The trains actually leak when they rub Toilets are never clean Receive the worst servic and still expect to pay But if you don't mind any of these things. I thoroughly recommend Arriva Trains Wales… Read Full Review

“Discriminating train operator ”

Written on: 05/08/2014 by dhOliver223 (1 review written)

I am saddened to report that from where I live it's not just a case of poor train management but a more serious issue where by this company got rid of an exceptional staff member . I frequently travel between swansea and Cardiff and came to know this young man . Sadly he vanished shortly before Christmas and I thought little of it . It came to my attention recently that in fact he had not been transferred as originally stated but subject to dismissal . He was always polite down to earth and… Read Full Review

“Shocking service”

Written on: 30/07/2014 by frogmorton311 (1 review written)

I have often travelled on Arriva trains and their service is unacceptably bad. Unfortunately there is obviously no motivation for their service to improve as so many commuters, myself included, use their service aa no other is available. Trains are often late or cancelled. This is forgivable when caused by circumstances outside their control, such as blocked lines, but Arriva could certainly improve the way they deal with such occasions. The provide little or poorly updated information, no… Read Full Review

“Traine de Horribles ”

Written on: 28/07/2014 by Janelle429 (1 review written)

Please do not travel via this train service. I had the pleasure- 'NOT' of travelling from Cardiff to Manchester. It was 'HORRIBLE'. The seats were filthy, the windows were dirty. No air-conditioning at ALL. The windows were open and and all sorts of rubbish like tree branches , feathers etc were flying in. Most importantly the train was running LATE and the conductor did not have the decency to apologise for the delay when he started recommending a different station for me to catch a train… Read Full Review

“Poor resources for morning commute”

Written on: 05/06/2014 by longshaw83 (1 review written)

I take the same service train every morning from earlestown to Manchester and every morning we get a 2 carridge train which by the time it gets to newton there are lots of people standing up which makes it difficult to get about for the toliet. Also this morning i was moved from my seat as someone who had priority seating had that seat. There had been nothing on the seat to state this as a pre booked seat and if this had been there i would have found alternative seating. I can appriciate that… Read Full Review

“a truly, reliably awful service”

Written on: 10/05/2014 by anthony2093 (1 review written)

This is coming from a user originally from England, where I thought train services were as bad as they could get. I was very, very wrong. I've been a user of arrival trains wales for 3 years now, and I have to say that throughout these hundreds of train trips they have always been exceptionally poor at the service they attempt to provide. Unclean and dated carriages are a definite highlight of the arriva trains experience, along with next to zero train service on a Sunday (religion?) You can… Read Full Review

“Poor Train Company”

Written on: 05/04/2014 by Smithua45 (1 review written)

Arriva Trains are never more than 2 carriages long. This results in passengers having to stand for in-acceptable long periods of time. Having experienced the journey between Shrewsbury and Cardiff today I would never recommend using this company's train service if possible. I hope to god that this companies rail franchise is not renewed… Read Full Review

“Delays, unreliable, incompetent ”

Written on: 24/03/2014

In the last four return journeys I've done from Swansea to Stockport, myself and other travellers have had to endure over 7 hours of delays. Staff are not helpful, and don't give accurate updates. There are rarely plugs to continue work on your laptop, or charge your phone if you have someone meeting you at the station, because the battery dies after an inordinately long journey. There are rarely refreshments and if you travel at peak time there are often not enough seats in two carriages… Read Full Review

“Poor Poor Service”

Written on: 21/01/2014

I communte into Cardiff regularly form my local station, the train needs at least 3 carriages to accommodate everyone (even then people are standing). Arriva however, insist on putting 2 carriages on this route. Even cattle get to travel in less cramped conditions, but apparently buying a ticket does not entitle you to a seat just a journey!! They clearly do not have enough rolling stock to accommodate the number of passengers travelling especially at peak times. Lets hop ethe franchise is… Read Full Review

“Consistently bad”

Written on: 13/01/2014

Today's experience; I left work at 13:00 hoping to catch a train 1 stop to Llandaf station. Upon arriving, there were very few other passengers waiting. I should have been waiting around 5 minutes for my train. 2 minutes before the train was due to arrive, the board was updated to 'cancelled'. The next available train updated as being around 10 minutes late too (not sure of exact times). I waited, when the train was around 5 minutes away from arrival time, the board, yet again was updated as… Read Full Review

“Awful in ever aspect”

Written on: 09/01/2014 by Gaz8142 (1 review written)

Arriva trains wales has to be the worst company I've ever had the displesure of having to use. There trains are late constantly - I catch 10 trains a week between Caerphilly and Cardiff on average 7 of these will be late, there staff are rude and completely useless, there boards indicating how late a train is going to be are constantly wrong and there excuses for late trains are more often than not lies as proven a week ago when I was told 2 different things by a train guard and the person on… Read Full Review

“ABSOLUTELY APPALLING ”

Written on: 04/01/2014 by Tessahmaree (1 review written)

About two and a half months ago now I made a journey from London to Cardiff using arriva trains company. Whilst I was booking my ticket an error occurred after I put in my bank and card details and so I called customer service and I was told to redo it. So I trusted the gentlemen and redid my details. Once this was complete two days later I got sent two envelopes with two different tickets, I immediately called arriva trains and told them my problem and they checked the reference number of both… Read Full Review

“Avoid them unless travel is essential”

Written on: 02/01/2014

I can only give an honest review based on my experience but I will say Arriva Wales trains are the worst trains in the whole of the UK. The person who gave them 5 stars clearly either working for them, has family that work for them or this is the only train service they have ever used. I am what is often know as a city explorer. I have friends as Northern as Glasgow and as Southern as Southampton and as a hobby of mine I like to visit other towns quite frequently. I have used pretty much… Read Full Review

“Arriva are shocking”

Written on: 10/12/2013 by Gatchy (1 review written)

I can't believe the comment on here giving them a good review, it must be a joke or something. The trains are overcrowded and rarely on time, and being lied to by their useless staff after you've all been told to get off and wait for the next train "which is only five minutes behind" is common. They regularly terminate trains mid journey just to get it back to cardiff and fudge their dodgy stats. I recently complained and passenger focus replied that 90 percent of their trains are on time! I… Read Full Review

“Careless for the passengers ”

Written on: 10/11/2013

I was on the 13.22 pm train from Cardiff to Holyhead it was late for 20 minutes . When the train arrived there was only two coaches, it was overcrowded with people standing in door ways, sitting on the floor and luggage. Bloody joke for arriva trains to let the passages eg oap, young people stand over 3 hours journey . Also had a member of staff from cleaning team standing in the loos because he couldn't move anywhere . Why wasn't any more coaches knowing there was a game on sat and the… Read Full Review

I absolutely agree with you. I mentioned this to the guard on this route yesterday and he said oh there were meant to be 3 carriages but they only put on 2 and he said that buying a ticket doesn't entitle you to a seat! I asked if this raised any health and safety issues and he said no... I must disagree with him.

i too have experienced this bad planning by arriva trains . I frequently travel from prestatyn to crewe or chester and the overcrowded 2 coach multiple unit is often between 10 and 20 minutes late . it beggars belief that trains can be that late so often on a simple unclutterd route between Holyhead and prestatyn . the company needs bringing to book .

“Totally Unacceptable”

Written on: 06/11/2013

I regularly use the Pontyclun to Cardiff Central route, train very unreliable, no ticket conducter if there is one he/she only interested in selling daily tickets and say that weekly tickets take too long and they have targets to work towards. I queued for 30 mins for a ticket to be issued by the most miserable and slow staff you could possibly imagine. Also I pay £6.40 for a return 11 minute journey which is digusting, trains overcrowded and late was evenings. Arriva trains need to be… Read Full Review

“THE BEST RAIL OPERATOR EVER!!!”

Arriva Trains Wales are the best, despite their bad reviews they are amazing. very nice trains refurbished for the cambrian lines which are the nicest lines in the whole of the world. if all you think of them is this you must be mad, these little details are all in-correct and targeting a very good company which have never let me down. all the below are a load of rubbish. arriva are the best company and whenever i have had a problem they are direct and to the point. all this is is alot of… Read Full Review

This comment is most likely endorse from the company. Mainly 1 star from each review and all of a sudden this guy gives them 5 stars and reckons they're the best rail ever? Somehow I can't believe that is a genuine comment.

Perhaps they run a good service on the line you use (in wales, but outside of their flagship area, on the Manchester Piccadilly line, a line they do a lot of business on, they constantly have standing passengers, these angry business men you talk of, who are people that spend thousands of pounds year on year to use this appalling service, this Absolutely shambolic service and it's all down to their lack of competition due to the franchise, they should be more regulated by the government as they only care about taking your money and oh if you are delayed and want a refund they give you a leaflet and tell you to write in, in 2014!!! Just buy/rent some more carriages will you Arriva and respond to your terrible feedback!

“So bad its almost funny.”

Written on: 02/10/2013 by TomCFC (1 review written)

Been using them to get to work for 6 months and these have been my experiences: - regularly late. Around 75% of my journeys with them are delayed often by 15minutes or more. - massively overpriced. £5.40 for 15 minute journey -overcrowded. Never any free seats and dedicated bicycle spaces always full of pushchairs, luggage and passengers. -staff ranging from clueless to downright rude. -terrible customer service. When complaining to them in writing the responses I recieved ranged from… Read Full Review
