“How have Arriva still got a licence to operate?”

Written on: 21/05/2016 by SamB. (1 review written)

Journey pre booked in Jan16, Train cancelled 9 mins before arrival, so unable to travel, missed important appointment. Submitted claim for a refund. Despite 5 phone calls and numerous emails, 6 months later I am still waiting for a refund and compensation for my time chasing the refund. Telephone again today, and advised, that it was posted on 17/05/2016 and that it would take ten days to reach me.  But that has been the case all along. There is no concept of Customer Satisfaction, Service… Read Full Review

“Ignorant”

Written on: 09/05/2016 by Choatexf216 (1 review written)

Waiting to buy a train ticket at the unpaid tickets office at Cardiff central train station, as there was no conductor available on the train. Ignored by the male employee in the office, despite being stood in front of him. There were other employees selling tickets which I hadn't seen until someone walked past me to get a ticket that had been to be left obviously just watching me. Then called other people behind me to buy their tickets. Not ideal considering the pace at which a lot of people… Read Full Review

“Absolutely ridiculous ”

Written on: 22/04/2016 by Meadows345 (1 review written)

I cant find words to describe how shockingly bad this company is, the rhondda lines are ALWAYS late or delayed, in the last 5-6 years I can't remember a single time the trains were actually on time, if the price of tickets was cheap then I would understand. If you're going to Cardiff be prepared to queue, very rarely the conductor comes around for tickets, and with the unavailability of buying tickets at a station you're going to have to queue at Cardiff to buy a ticket. Absolute shambles of… Read Full Review

“What an Absoulte Joke Of a Company ”

Written on: 05/04/2016 by oscar456 (4 reviews written)

Totally and utterly unbelievable that this company is still allowed to operate, and be funded via large sums of public money. Seriously this company don't give a monkeys about the actual travelling public, a total embarrassment to say they are my local TOC. Simple request today, change the time on my ticket for travel in two days time to an earlier and cheaper off peak train. How hard can that be? well almost two and a half hours and trips to Cwmbran ( which was closed apparently staff… Read Full Review

“Always late, cancelled or run reduced service.”

Written on: 08/03/2016 by Natm01 (1 review written)

This is by far the worst train company I have ever used trains stink of urine, staff look like the cast of shameless, I commute Telford to Birmingham daily and yet they are only on time once or twice a month, they run 4 car trains usually that are packed so when it suits them normally Friday's they send 2 car services which then they refuse people to board cause it's busy, arriva are a joke, it can leave Telford on time and arrive late and can leave late and terminate well before Birmingham in… Read Full Review

“Useless”

Written on: 13/01/2016 by 34Loomis (1 review written)

3 days a week I commute from Bangor to Liverpool using trains, in the morning I tend to get the Virgin train which I have no issue with, the train is always on time and arrives on time too... In comparison to using Arriva trains Wales on my return from Liverpool who are 8/10 times late and never get to Bangor on time never! I've been doing this since September. Currently sat on a journey now that's what made me think about writing a review because I'm sick of it! The train I'm on now is due to… Read Full Review

“Pretty much forced to use these trains”

Written on: 09/12/2015 by adamcoombes (1 review written)

I am a college student, and I need to take the trains from Caerphilly, to Cardiff Central, then to Pencoed. I have a rail card so I can travel for free. Where do I start? The trains are never longer than 2 carriages long, which would be fine, if I wasn't travelling at 7 in the morning. The trains are crammed with people, leaving absolutely no breathing room. You should not be surprised if you find yourself suffocating because there is no oxygen left. The seats are filthy and packed with dust… Read Full Review

“Three letters later and still no response”

Written on: 08/12/2015 by KellenClancy135 (1 review written)

Wrote to Customer Services in early November enclosing tickets as we were delayed and missed our connection. Have emailed twice since asking if they could at least acknowledge my request for a refund. Not a thing. Does this department no longer exist? Disgraceful way to treat their customers… Read Full Review

“Dirty trains and miserable staff!”

Written on: 07/12/2015 by ReubenYoung34 (1 review written)

I use arriva trains every week to get to and from cardiff. But am going to start using stagecoach buses as I have had enough of filthy trains and staff who almost make you feel guilty for using the service. The train floors are covered with litter and the seats look as if they havnt been cleaned since the 80s. I cought a train from caerphilly to cardiff central on Friday afternoon and the ticket woman without evening saying a word snatched my money and lobbed the change back in my hand. Then… Read Full Review

“Striving For Failure”

Written on: 14/09/2015 by JaylenNewton30 (1 review written)

Having been forced to use the Arriva Trains Wales service for years to get to work and back, I can not speak any less highly of the shambles that is Arriva Trains Wales. Cost: When I first began the commute the journey would set me back £5.50 for a return to Cardiff, which was manageable. However, in the space of a little over three years, the same route would cost me well over £8. How this inflation alone can be justified is beyond me, even before considering the journey in question isn't… Read Full Review

“Try to avoid!”

Written on: 17/08/2015 by 349Pritchard (1 review written)

I live in Ludlow and before getting a car I had to travel to Hereford 4 days a week to study and at one point the train was delayed practically everymorning, they trains also used to pull up in the morning when all the college and school students get on with only two carradges meaning it became chocka block and clostraphobic to travel on but then if I caught the train later on in the day when there were no college students, there for some reason would be 3 carradges even though it was quiter… Read Full Review

“Amazing service in dire circumstances”

Written on: 11/04/2015 by Margey_V (1 review written)

I took the train from Wrexham to Cardiff on April 10 at 20.49. Once I got to Shrewsbury there were huge problems with the line due to a signal man being unwell. Because of this, no one was available to man the signal box so no trains were running between Shrewsbury and Hereford. I was very grateful to find out they had put on taxis for us to run us free of charge from Shrewsbury station to Hereford station. I think this is excellent service in the mist of what could have been total chaos so I… Read Full Review

“why do you punish us?”

Written on: 10/12/2014 by Frodvegas (1 review written)

I have no choice but to use this poor excuse of a train as its the only one pretending to service the Chester to M/cr line. We too have a severe lack of cars at rush hour periods. I pay £200pm and for what?? To be squashed in a moving vehicle like an illegal immigrant!! Has anyone else noticed Arriva's lack of updates and half arsed apologies when they're late? What did the clearly bored conductor say a few weeks ago, " we were waiting for an extra carriage at Chester. We were working on the… Read Full Review

“Consistently poor service”

Written on: 29/10/2014

So sick of Arriva Trains Wales with their shoddy service and shoddy excuses. It's like they've just given up trying to provide a decent service and yet are more than happy to take our money, and even have the nerve to increase fares annually. For what?? Where is this extra money being spent? Certainly not on more carriages. A few times a week without fail, people on the Ebbw Vale to Cardiff line are crammed into 2 carriages at the busiest commuter times, often with there being literally no room… Read Full Review

“Dreadful ”

Written on: 08/09/2014 by Keeneui392 (1 review written)

Travelled from Paddington to Abergavenny. Great Western service to Newport fantastic. Newport to Abergavenny awful! 2 coaches over crowded. The train manager came through checking tickets. I politely asked when are they going to put bigger trains on this route? Talk about jump down my throat!!!! There's plenty of room on here! Yet the passengers and my self were standing in the Aisles and exits! He just walked off ! Then he did an announcement over the PA and mentioned the gentleman stood by… Read Full Review

“flipping terrible service ”

Written on: 23/08/2014 by JorgeEdmondson1992 (1 review written)

Firstly there was the price of the ticket which has gone up every single time we have traveled. We used the 17.04 to tenby from cardiff there was no where to sit at all & nearly all the standing room was full, when the staff demanded to board a lady & a double pram blocking the exit totally if there had been a fire or an emergency we simply wouldn't have been able to get out. The lady also proceeded to change the babies nappy in the enclosed space. Hell on earth… Read Full Review

“Disgusting train staff”

Written on: 22/08/2014 by Jesusj1975 (1 review written)

Absolutely disgusting service from one member of staff on the train. Incredibly patronising and up in my face for atleast 2 minutes. I'm currently a college student and used my college ID pass for discount on the train from Cwmbran to Cardiff (I wasn't aware that my college pass wasn't legible for discount on trains at the time). The man who checked my ticket asked to see my 'Railcard' which I didn't have as I've never used a railcard before and never owned one. I explained to him that I had a… Read Full Review
