The Waterloo Hotel and Bistro sits close to the Usk river beside the magnificent Transporter bridge. The area, as you approach, isn't pretty, after all, this is a hotel close to the Newport docks. But don't be put off. When you get inside this little oasis, you will find very friendly staff (but not overbearing) incredible food that is actually fine dining and rooms that are the size of a small country. They will definitely look after you, manage to juggle the stresses of a 16 hour day and still have time to chat over a cup of tea. So even if you are visiting Cardiff and not interested in Newport, at least try your first night here and then see how difficult it will be to move

Everything was great. the service the food, the atmosphere, and thankfully the date...... had a really nice night at The Waterloo Hotel and Bistro, which was suprising as the location is shocking. 3 course meal including wine and coffee for two came to £80 and I was more than happy to leave a tip. Highly recommend and will use again.

It's a family run hotel and I felt part of the family after one night.Had intended to dine in various restaurants in the area, but after first dinner, ate there for the week.
The staff were very friendly and efficient, without being over the top[which I hate]. We stayed when the hotel was full and expected service to suffer, but quite the contrary the busier they got the better the service. All staff rowe ...

Please support this place. It has all the advantages of personality and excellently presented food without being too posh.

Many * restaurants make you feel unwelcome and impersonal.
This one is exactly the opposite. Been there once, they remember you and cater for your taste. Staff seem to stay.
