Good Points: Solid performance for HDD and DVD recording and playback. Connection facilities through SCART and output via S-Video and digital sound.Remote is well made with easy to use buttons. Small covered panel at the base hides a small selection of buttons that are not used often. The flap hinged lid is flimsy. More later
Bad Points: Depends on use. To use use it as an automated recorder device attached to a FreeSat box is clumsy and unfriendly. The deck has to be put into a SAT0 mode which stops the whole machine being used for anything else including ejecting a DVD. The front panel flashes continuously during recording which is irritating. The stimulation for the deck to record is the the FreeSat box switching on from the Personal Planner facilty on the Sky box. This means that the use of the sky box for other reasons such as seaching for programs, setting programs, switches the recorder on. The button needed to set the recorder to auto record is under the flap on the remote. It will break off soon, I know this and I am careful. The RF output does not present a channel number. If the user wants to use the device to send RF to a domestic RF network, the SCART output needs to be passed to a RF encoder. No notes in the manual and no help on JVC web page.
General comments: This device is no longer available but some of the features have been seen on other JVC recording products. Flahing displays during recording is irritating and unneccessary. Other manufacturers seem to be able to manage external link for auto recording using other signals from digi boxes that work better. Perhaps JVC would take note. JVC have always given good connection to their devices which makes them attractive if many devices are to be connected together. They need to improve the user interface and general ergonomics. This device was bought on EBAY and the second to be used. The first was broken on arrival, this one was also broken but mended by a local dealer.
