Good Points: Excellent colour depth, good detail, very smooth shades. Very good quality and intuitive remote. Great facade. No reliability problems. CD sound seems very good but not as good as a dedicated CD player for the same money.
Bad Points: None
General comments: I have had my Philips DVD-Q40 for three years now and believe the Faroudja chip makes the difference. I intended to upgrade it to a more expensive machine but when trialling them found that the Phillips was far superior. Even the retailer told me that I would have to spend double what I paid for it to get a better machine.

The pictures are very good from this Philips DVD Q40 dvd player and it steers the surround sound around the room very well.
So initially this seemed to be a giant step up from my old budget player but it has repeatedly frozen and now refuses to work after halfway through any film.
Overall i would rate this as being very poor due to all the reliability issues.
