these fridges are all image and no substance. they are cheap quality,poor build and if you want to renew a door seal try paying out £256 plus vat as you have to buy the complete door. after 2 years the brackets holding the shelving on the doors broke away,then the same happened to the lower ones,the freezer compartment has leaked for the last 3 years and the door seal has given problems for the last year so i decided to change the door seal for a new one as on all my other fridges i have... I have to confess to not being very happy with my fridge. It leaks, the door doesn't close properly etc. Why can't somebody else make funky fridges= I have some friends who have an Aga Fridge - beautiful and oh so stylish, but unfortunately costs more than my car.. come on fridge makers!! there has to be a way to do efficient AND cool.. Have had the Smeg fridge about 4 years and just about every shelf is now broken. Ice box doesn't close, all 4/5 door shelves have either completely snapped or are being held together with tape. The only shelves in the main part are the glass bottom and the wire wine rack, all the other shelves had to be taken out when the plastic sides broke. Ice box catch has also gone. salad box was the first thing to break. Having just looked at the price of spare parts I'd be better off buying a new... (read more)

The Smeg fridge which I purchased with a left hand opening door, came with a faulty door seal. Smeg's UK agent supplied a replacement promptly enough but sent a right hand opening model. They then sent a third fridge on which the door seal seemed to be satisfactor but shortly after the expiry of the guarantee period the seal started to fail. Unless careful atetntion is paid when closing the door it will not make an airtight bond.

An old electrolux fridge from my parents about 30 years old was far better than this Smeg Retro Fridge. Would not buy again,not much sympathy from manufacturer when you can find contact. thermostat not compatible with size, door seal/magnet very strong.good point only you have to tether the fridge to the wall so you can open door.Door shelving made from plastic that becomes brittle when cold!! how good is that? replacements are v.expensive,ended up making 2 myself.Freezer compartment door...
