    Good Points: Price, quality, decoder.


    Bad Points: No region hack, low output volume.


    General comments: At £90 from ToysRUs (also from Dabs at around £92), this Medion MD4358 DVD player has to be the cheapest dvd with a 5.1 decoder. I've tried other "bargain basement" dvd's and have been disappointed (unsurprisingly) at the build quality of the main unit and the remote. This Medion however is much better and looks and feels pretty solid. Performance is pretty good and the machine copes well the various formats - mp3, vcd. The only downpoint (as with other dvds with decoders) is the low audio level output. This is very annoying if your tv doesn't have an auto-level type feature.

    In my opinion I would rather let a dedicated av amp do the decoding and leave the dvd player do what it's supposed to do - play dvd's!!!

    Ho-hum onto the next dvd player...that LG5083 looks nice!
