EA is the better car, ask any one who's owned one. the Vn was built with a poorly designed V6 motor, with stuff all torque. The rating is for the EA too (8), VN gets a (6.5).
The Person with the comment, "I wish i had the reliability of the ford in their Holden Vn is Absolutely right. Vn's were no more reliable than a EA falcon, its just the owners of VN's like to think so, I know, at least the Ea doesn't leak oil out of a fuckin stupid rope seal at the back of the engine, too.- Read timfagan's review (115 words)

VN commodore, handles badly and too light. Interior is very cheap and ugly. Rough motor at low speed. Overall rubbish! Compared to the EA Falcon.- Read Guest's review (36 words)

its not always practical if you lower it too much, but it handles really good. i got a Holden VN Vacationer wagon 12/90 the auto has always slipped a bit since we've had it (also heavy on fuel and drains power) i just put a series1 stage 2 shift kitted (built for towing) auto box in it. (different ratio box) now its better on fuel, got its full power back its a lot quicker now. and im about to put 3.36 diff ratio in it(currently 3.08). i know family rig old habits die hard. : ) my also idles ...- Read burnin666's review (177 words)

Performance and reliability, but genearally boring interior, don't drive as well as an EA Falcon. Can be dangerous at high speed cornering due to light weight. Typical early V6 harshness, not nearly as smooth as the same model ford inline 6.- Read Guest's review (71 words)

I had simmular problems and also had to run a bottle of injector cleaner through my tank. I also notised that a bottle of enginestopleak helped to max conpression in motor allowing me to notice a very small leak/air inlet around one of the the fuel hoses that join the fuel lines/pipes make sure to check them now my mighty VN has max speed/take of again.
I also did most of the other general checks.- Read Tickie's review (114 words)

I have owned my vn for 6 months (it's my 1st car) and i am extremely happy with it, performance is great for a stock v6 and it is roomy enough 2 do anything. I recommend the VN to anyone who is looking for a reliable/performance/family car at a now small cost.- Read wazza's review (93 words)

I have nothing against holden i've driven the vn it's a good car, actually it's really nice, but the EA falcon will rule over the vn no problem. People are too scared to drive them cause they are afraid it might be better and if they do they drive an auto, that's the problem the auto is a very poor make, once you ride the 5 speed manual, it's a whole new car over again, with that bit more oomfff than the v6 competitor. Really the only downfall is its weight, the vn is very light. But the Ea vs V ...- Read peacemaker's review (109 words and 3 comments)

Our Holden VN Commodore Stationwagon was running rough tried all kinds of things. Finally, when replacing the fuel pump, found the fuel tank had a heap of red dust sand in it.
Also, after cleaning the engine, resulted in the car computer having to be reset - it kept breaking down for no reason at the time repeatedly.- Read mikehop4's review (110 words)

I have a Commodore 1990 VN Stationwagon.
I have found my car has a bit of a rough idle, I gave it a tune up, plugs and leads, and still found it was running a bit rough. Cleaned the throttle body assembly, checked the base idle and the speed sensor control, all to no avail.
Took it to an auto electrican for aa fault code check, and revealed the knock sensor swich missing. I thought that was the problem. Still no joy. Injectors were cleaned by the previous owner. Threw a couple of bottles ...- Read John Boy's review (152 words and 2 comments)

The Holden VN Commodore Stationwagon is a fantastic car that goes very well and can be pushed hard. The TH700 transmission is bulletproof and the engine is very torquey with lots of low down grunt. They have a nice large interior, big enough for the biggest size of people. They have a good bang for your bucks factor.- Read James's review (85 words)

Because the 1990 Holden VN Commodore Station wagon was the first of the new style of commodores, the vn did have many teething problems, most of which have been resurrected in later model commodores.
Personally, i have a 91 model sedan which was bought new and an 88 model stationwagon which i bought second hand in 2001 and it had 128000kms on the odometer. The 91 model has given me no problems. But the 88 model stationwagon has cost me around $3000 in repairs including a new head gasket.
I hav ...- Read Ben's review (236 words and 3 comments)

I've owned a 5spd Holden VN Commodore stationwagon for 6 months or so now and they're fantastic cars except not long after purchasing the car it developed a miss fire that cost over $1000 to remedy (coil pack and DFI Modual as well as the crank angle sensor). From what i've read it's a common problem (when mine was being repaired there was another in with the same problem). As far as its performance, they give as good as they get.
The VN has been Quoted at 121 kw at 1300 odd kilos and the VT at ...- Read rosco's review (128 words and 2 comments)

My car is a Holden 1990 VN Commodore Wagon 5 speed and has done over 300,000Km's and still has proved to be a very reliable unit. It provides me with a level of performance that I need to get out of tight situations. Athought the ride tends to be a bit harsh at times, I find it enjoyable to drive. When pushed too hard through corners tho it can get a bit hairy if you dont keep on top of it as it tends to go from predictable to major oversteer if you are not ready for it. If you have a manual tak ...- Read Jim's review (200 words and 7 comments)

FE2 suspension is a must, handling is improved dramatically.
Powerchip gives the Commodore power throughout revrange, not only down low where the non-chipped find their power.
Big enough for the long hauls yet small enough for city and suburbia.
Owned my Commodore for 5 months now, done 22,000kms and not one problem.
It has done 245,000kms now.
A Joy to drive and Own
