“Couldnt ask for much more!”

Hahaha what a place! Stayed here for with 4 mates for a week and it was ideal. If you've got a decent crew of mates looking for a daft holiday in the uk this is the place to stay. Dont worry about making noise because you wont get your wrists slapped, we blasted the tunes every night inside the caravan and outside and no1 said a peep. The staff are laid back! Site shop is decent if a little bit pricey but not the end of the world. The outdoor pool is a bit naughty like haha but the beach is... (read more)

“Only a few faults”

Written on: 20/02/2013 by hilaryhuff

Me and my friend went to RTTS '12 at the site and it was brilliant!!! Definitely a campsite for young people and is such a laugh! I however thought that it was rubbish that our electric fire didn't work so was bloody freezing at night or when it was a cold, rainy day. Our TV only had 1 channel so that if you were hungover and lounging round there weren't much to watch but someone did come out and look, but it was acable connecting most the caravans which had gone down and nothing could be... Smugglers Haven When we arrived we had to fill out a form of the things that were missing or broken, such as not cutlery glasses, a loo door that didn't shut, holes in the roof, holes in the wall that had just been coved with plastic, not to mention the fact that it was filthy, I'm 19 and live on a farm so I'm not really bother by dirt but this was just rank. Surely the whole point of the £300 deposit is to fix/sort out all of this so that its presentable for the next guests, but from... (read more)

“Smugglers Haven - a real review!! ”

Written on: 29/08/2011 by ryan_1234 (1 review written)

me and a group of friends stayed at smugglers haven from the 20th-27th august. Firstly I'd like to point out yes we are a group of 17 year old's but we are not chavs, couldn't be further from it. We arrived at smugglers haven quite concerned after reading some of the other reviews but we were surprised when we were welcomed by a friendly helpful lady behind the check in desk. She gave us a map and showed us the route to the caravan. we entered our caravan with caution but again we were... (read more)

“overcharged for quality and deposit was unfairly withheld”

my fiancee booked a 6 berth caravan for run to the sun in may 2011. he paid £300 deposit for it and after he cleaned the caravan himself and removed all the rubbish he was informed a week later that £120 would be withheld for a broken bed, 2 bags of rubbish left behind and also the caravan needed a deep clean he took pictures before he left just in case if an issue like this ever arose as £300 is a lot of money to put down for a deposit when he asked for proof of why they wanted to... We booked two of their best caravans for 3 nights in Easter 2011 at 'Trevelgue Holiday Park' in Newquay. Our ages ranged from 1 to 58. Our caravans were sited by the launderette - we found staff working there noisy. Shop, across the road, had many shelves empty. The caravan was ok, carpet marked, a bit dusty, nothing really to complain about. Bed covers clean.

We were booked to stay at 'Trevelgue Holiday Park', however, when we got there the stupid girl on the counter said 'we had broken park rules' because i am 19 my boyfriend and friend are 22, therefore we were classed as a group booking so was put onto Smugglers! she then said because we had broken rules, we had to pay £50 deposit each to make sure we didn't trash the caravan (she took the money but left £20 on the counter by mistake, so we took it back...THANKS! :D) , we complained about the... I booked two caravans for myself and 11 friends on the weekend of the 9th/10th April for one of my friends birthdays. You can never beat newquay for a night out and smugglers is the perfect place to stay. The helpful bar staff sorted out taxis for us to get into town. The caravans were good, nothing as bad as some people make out!! Will be booking to go back in the summer (read more)

We have just returned from Smugglers Haven after what i can only describe an absolutely awesome time in Newquay! Once i had booked the campsite i was slightly concerned to see some of the reviews, knowing that we had a mixed group of 9 ranging from 23 to 31 and not the type that generally camps in a field! But upon arriving at the site and choosing our pitch, we were pleasantly surprised by the facilites and the general feel of the camp site..... the showers were clean and hot and the toilet... smugglers haven newquay are absolute sharks. A group of ten of us arrived on a friday evening having booked in for camping. When we arrived we were taken to find a suitable space for the five tents we had brought. The space we were allocated was a muddy puddle with room for one or two small tents. When we asked for another spot we were received by hostile and rude security guards and unhelpful and rude staff who would not even look us in the eye while basically stating "tough". Due to the... Smugglers Haven is a dump only suitable for kids who want to booze up and sleep all day in dirty caravans expect the worse and anything else will be a pleasure. This holiday is designed for yobs so you can expect it to be rough. No bedding is supplied and in one caravan some kids smashed a window and slept on a bare mattress with clothes on and no glass in the window for 5 days- sounds like a great holiday!!! (read more)

Written on: 04/07/2009 by mumsaloud (1 review written)

My son and friends booked as a party group at Smugglers Haven Newquay, no issues with that except that on the day of departure the security staff saw fit to "evict" them at 6.30am for reasons I have been unable to ascertain (I did actually get to speak to a supervisor on the telephone) . They went heavy handed into the caravan aggressive and threatening to the group who are all under 18 threw them out into the rain. Ironic that if they do this they forfeit their deposit!!!!! Wondered if... (read more)

The little angles you might have at home are no where near little angles on that site. We went to smugglers haven as a group of 20+ year olds to be confronted by loads of drunk, abusive and very disrespectful 16 year olds. The last night was the worst with them running around, screaming and shouting like little children that have had to much sugar. I find it very very concerning that parents allow there 16 year old CHILDREN to a 18-30s campsite.

Although an 18-30 campsite, it is actively encouraged for 16 year olds during this period. I did investigate, checked and happily signed a parental consent. My opinion is that if the site actually encourages this age group they should be able to deal with CHILDREN!

I agree with 471724_mel19
The reason smugglers encourages 16 and 17 yr olds is because it adds to their USP. It's fairly obvious really.. 16 and 17 yr olds want to go somewhere where they will be treated like adults and be able to drink and be rowdy without their parents around to stop them. Well sorry but if they want to be treated like adults then they should behave like them and if they misbehave they shouldn't be treated differently to anybody else just because of their age. It's a bit ridiculous you writing the campsite a negative review because of the way your son and his friends were treated when you appear to have no idea what they were getting up to...

“I booked in advance to stay at the Cranstar Trevelgue...”

Written on: 11/08/2008 by ClaireK (1 review written)

I booked in advance to stay at the Cranstar Trevelgue Holiday Campsite in Newquay. Instead I was told to book into Cranstar Smugglers Haven, the adjacent campsite as I was not a "family" group. It was never mentioned that this campsite was in fact doubling as overflow for a festival on at the same time. I was directed to a mud churned field with tents placed literally on top of each other. The "excellent" facilities I had been promised were in fact overflowing portaloos.

The campsite was... (read more)

This problem with management and staff being unavailable seems to be a common fault with the Cranstar holiday campsites.
I to had to wait on several occasions when I wanted to speak to the manager concerning the state of the pitches and the totally unacceptable levels of mud on the site. I know that the weather has not been very good this year but this still does not excuse the really poor state of the site I was on.

I agree with this review because...
I to have had problems with the Cranstar holiday sites and the managerial attitude that if you don't like it then go somewhere else.
On top of this I also found that many of the male staff were rude to people who asked them even simple questions like "where can I find..."
