Went here with 10 friends in August for board masters. Ages ranging from 20-30. We got there early and drove through the park, we where a bit worried by the look of the place. But once we got booked in and started to have a drink and a laugh you didn't really notice any cosmetic issues. Why would they pay to keep fixing them up just to be trashed again. We had two caravans they where perfect. They where clean and tidy and all we needed just to sleep in. Everyone we met just wanted a good time like us. The staff there where brilliant they organised a bar crawl. The night bus that runs to the town is just what's needed so much cheaper then a taxi. We never had any issues with other people there or in town. Had nothing but an amazing long weekend and would defiantly be returning. It's cheap and 18-30's so don't expect the Hilton!!! But it's liveable.

The caravan park was minging in general, but we paid a £50 deposit each (there were 14 of us - £700 in total)back in october when we stayed there, we should have received the deposit back 7-10 days after we left, and we are still waiting for it, given a ridiculous amount of excuses and there's never a manager there to talk too. Would never recommend anyone to stay there!

Stayed here for bank holiday weekend in August 2013. Caravan was below standards (even for the cheap price). Stains all over sofas with vomit encrusted into the cushions, disgusting carpets, dirty kitchen, smelly toilet / shower room, terribly uncomfortable beds with springs poking through (not to mention the beds are absolutely tiny, I am 6 foot and was poking out of each end). Please also bear in mind that this was our 2nd caravan, we had to move from the first one as their was what appeared to be human feces spread all over the exterior. Bar in campsite is hugely overpriced and bar crawls were £20 for them basically just taking you to their mates bars in town. Drinking games were tame and reps weren't the nicest people in the world. This is only the start, if you are looking to stay here you will notice that you have to provide a deposit upon booking which they tell you will be refunded within 7 working days of your departure. It is now 30 days after my stay at Smugglers and despite us leaving the caravan in better condition than when we found it (we had a major clean on the last day to ensure we got our deposit back) I am STILL waiting for my deposit despite regular phone calls to the campsite. They keep promising me my deposit back within 2-3 days... then nothing. They are rude on the phone and do not care about their own terms and conditions. I will be contacting trading standards as the deposit I left was £400. STILL NOTHING. Unprofessional business with an aged, dirty campsite. Would not recommend to anybody. Do yourself a favor and book into a B&B in town, there are loads of B&B's that cater for young groups and are much closer to all the action. The campsite is miles out of town anyway and you have to pay for a bus to get to town (even on the bar crawl). PS - I am not a fussy person, I've been all over the world and stayed in some horrible places, and still enjoyed it! But smugglers hell is by far the worst place I have ever stayed and when it comes down to messing around with other peoples money, that's just unacceptable. They should be closed down. Health and Safety would have a field day in that place.

Hahaha what a place! Stayed here for with 4 mates for a week and it was ideal. If you've got a decent crew of mates looking for a daft holiday in the uk this is the place to stay. Dont worry about making noise because you wont get your wrists slapped, we blasted the tunes every night inside the caravan and outside and no1 said a peep. The staff are laid back! Site shop is decent if a little bit pricey but not the end of the world. The outdoor pool is a bit naughty like haha but the beach is only a short taxi away and the beaches are unreal. Went to Fistral beach for a full day, took a few cans and a bbq and had a mint time and the sunset from the beach bar thing is second to none. The nightlife in Newquay is half decent as well, once you start to have a good mooch about and find the decent clubs you'll be sound. All in all had a class time staying here and would definitely go back! Thanks for your craic!

Me and my friend went to RTTS '12 at the site and it was brilliant!!! Definitely a campsite for young people and is such a laugh! I however thought that it was rubbish that our electric fire didn't work so was bloody freezing at night or when it was a cold, rainy day. Our TV only had 1 channel so that if you were hungover and lounging round there weren't much to watch but someone did come out and look, but it was acable connecting most the caravans which had gone down and nothing could be done. A 5 and 6th bed in a 6th berth is made for children, the room was so small me and my friend couldn't fit in there standing up, let alone sleeping and I ended up living on the sofa. We have booked again this year, but a 4 berth between the 2 of us...we will be taking an electric fire this time. I think the website should warn how much of a deposit should be put down, last year it was £100, but this year it's gone up to £200 for a 4 berth? Understandable because the caravans had looked like they had took a beating when we left. Other than them faults, it was a great stay, the staff were helpful, nice and had one of the best weekends of my life, roll on this years!

Smugglers Haven When we arrived we had to fill out a form of the things that were missing or broken, such as not cutlery glasses, a loo door that didn't shut, holes in the roof, holes in the wall that had just been coved with plastic, not to mention the fact that it was filthy, I'm 19 and live on a farm so I'm not really bother by dirt but this was just rank. Surely the whole point of the £300 deposit is to fix/sort out all of this so that its presentable for the next guests, but from what I can tell all they did is keep the deposit and then spend it on anything other than the caravan, honestly if that caravan was for sale it wouldn't have been worth more than £299! On the third day there were bangers going off all day and security didn't seemed at all bothered by this UNTIL one was thrown threw our window at 5ish in the morning and put a hole the size of a football in my friends duvet and made hole through the side of the caravan and oh yeah A HOLE IN MY FREINDS LEG! Ambulance and police were called and we were up graded to a nicer caravan after the owner made his way down and had started questioning us on the state of the caravan such as holes in the roof before he even asked how my friend was. He was more interested in keeping our deposit for the holes in the roof that have been there for a year (there were dates written on them) than dealing with a fundamental showing of incompetence on his part for even allowing such a horrific thing happen, not even a little apologetic. We asked if we could all have our money back but were told that was not going to happen, it wasn't until Molly's dad came down to pick her up that he managed to get her money back, apparently we all needed a hole in our legs to get our money back! And bangers went off the next night again! We were moved to a nicer caravan in the family bit where one the last night me and a different friend were attacked by 22 underaged teenagers so police were called again So all in all, appalling caravan, friend was blown up, police were called twice, and Newquay town center is a 15 min taxi ride away!

me and a group of friends stayed at smugglers haven from the 20th-27th august. Firstly I'd like to point out yes we are a group of 17 year old's but we are not chavs, couldn't be further from it. We arrived at smugglers haven quite concerned after reading some of the other reviews but we were surprised when we were welcomed by a friendly helpful lady behind the check in desk. She gave us a map and showed us the route to the caravan. we entered our caravan with caution but again we were presented with a surprise, our van was clean and undamaged. We had a large group split over 2 caravans and both were excellent one was slightly smaller but this wasn't a problem. some of the onsite facilities arn't available to smugglers guests although this didn't effect us as we ended up going out most days anyway. very happy with this campsite and our group are already discussing returning next year. just remember its a very cheap holiday!!!

been reading loads of reviews on here saying smugglers haven was rubbish, dont get my wrong the caravans aren't 5* but for what u pay 2 stay there they are not going 2 be, we got lucky and got an ok caravan that was right in the corner. me and 3 of my friends, (cov girls :)) went for 4days the 15th-19th of july and we didnt leave the campsite once we had partys every night at our caravan and they didnt stop till 8 in the morning, all the staff were lovely my friend had her purse robbed but the security staff found it and returned it to us!! anything that was broke when we got there was fixed straight away, there are lots of 16 and 17 year olds that stay there till the 16th of july but we had no problems with any of them, the girls there are not so nice we had some very stuck up girls in the caravan next 2 us who didnt like the fact that we had partys at ours and that most of the boys on site were at it, honestly if your lookin for a wild weekend i would defo recommend smugglers haven we have only just got back and are booking 2 go back in august!!! best girlie holiday by far lets just say im still recovering.

my fiancee booked a 6 berth caravan for run to the sun in may 2011. he paid £300 deposit for it and after he cleaned the caravan himself and removed all the rubbish he was informed a week later that £120 would be withheld for a broken bed, 2 bags of rubbish left behind and also the caravan needed a deep clean he took pictures before he left just in case if an issue like this ever arose as £300 is a lot of money to put down for a deposit when he asked for proof of why they wanted to withhold the money he was suddenly told it was a housekeeping error and the wrong paperwork had been kept against his file and he was actually due all the money back!! (thus we feel they tried to be cheeky and see if he would notice if they kept £120 of the deposit) we have subsequently asked for compensation for the hassle, stress and cost of calls etc and been told a flat NO-only that we can have a caravan for discounted rate one weekend To be honest he wouldnt go back and neither would I as he said the caravan was basic and dull and the service we got after was shocking if you ever need to make a complaint the details you need are: Toni-Nicole Grose Office Manager Cranstar Holidays Trevelgue & Smugglers Haven Porth Newquay Cornwall TR8 4AS Tel : 01637 851851 Mike Finnegan Operations Director Cranstar Group [email protected] Andreas is the MD and his email is: [email protected] DO NOT BOOK A HOLIDAY WITH THIS FIRM

We booked two of their best caravans for 3 nights in Easter 2011 at 'Trevelgue Holiday Park' in Newquay. Our ages ranged from 1 to 58. Our caravans were sited by the launderette - we found staff working there noisy. Shop, across the road, had many shelves empty. The caravan was ok, carpet marked, a bit dusty, nothing really to complain about. Bed covers clean.
The Club House evening entertainment is aimed at children and repetitive, this was followed by Bingo. The reps worked hard to keep the children entertained and our children enjoyed it. Cost of drinks expensive. There is a bus that stops outside the Club House - not sure whether it goes into the town centre. There is an indoor pool which does have a lifeguard but an adult still needs to be there with their children.
We would go there again

We were booked to stay at 'Trevelgue Holiday Park', however, when we got there the stupid girl on the counter said 'we had broken park rules' because i am 19 my boyfriend and friend are 22, therefore we were classed as a group booking so was put onto Smugglers! she then said because we had broken rules, we had to pay £50 deposit each to make sure we didn't trash the caravan (she took the money but left £20 on the counter by mistake, so we took it back...THANKS! :D) , we complained about the fact she was putting us on smugglers, so she said 'ill give you a nice caravan' well, i wouldn't want to know what the worst of the caravans look like if that was the nicest! There was poo smudged over the walls, and the doors were hanging off the hinges. I told her about the review ive read, and the videos ive seen, she said the reviews are probably wrong and we would have a better time on smugglers because of our age. so we reluctantly agreed to stay there despite how we felt about that place. That night, the caravans next to us had a huge fight and were throwing rocks at each others caravans and smashed all the windows. THESE KIDS WERE DEFINITELY NOT 18!!! MORE LIKE 16!
oh and there was a used condom underneath out step.. lovely...and we got to see some people having sex. :)
DONT GO!
:)

Worst holiday i have ever been on! DO not go near it is a DUMP!!!!
Would rate it zero, but it wont let me. At your own peril tho, I will never go back if you gave me a grand i still would not go back to that mining place.
Shame on you Newquay ... what are you becoming?

I booked two caravans for myself and 11 friends on the weekend of the 9th/10th April for one of my friends birthdays. You can never beat newquay for a night out and smugglers is the perfect place to stay. The helpful bar staff sorted out taxis for us to get into town. The caravans were good, nothing as bad as some people make out!! Will be booking to go back in the summer

We have just returned from Smugglers Haven after what i can only describe an absolutely awesome time in Newquay! Once i had booked the campsite i was slightly concerned to see some of the reviews, knowing that we had a mixed group of 9 ranging from 23 to 31 and not the type that generally camps in a field! But upon arriving at the site and choosing our pitch, we were pleasantly surprised by the facilites and the general feel of the camp site..... the showers were clean and hot and the toilet block was really clean considering how many people were camping on the site! The site had a real party atmosphere, at the end of the day its £11.80 a night what do people expect, it is exactly how its described....a great place for young people that want to have FUN! Everyone in the group had a wicked time, no damage to tents, cars or any other kind of behaviour we were led to belive from some of these reviews! The buses were really handy and extremely cheap way of getting to the pubs and clubs in Newquay! We will most def be returning to this campsite again and only hope we have such an amazing time again with many fabulous memories that will keep us amused for years to come.

smugglers haven newquay are absolute sharks. A group of ten of us arrived on a friday evening having booked in for camping. When we arrived we were taken to find a suitable space for the five tents we had brought. The space we were allocated was a muddy puddle with room for one or two small tents. When we asked for another spot we were received by hostile and rude security guards and unhelpful and rude staff who would not even look us in the eye while basically stating "tough". Due to the lack of help we had to run up the road and book into a different campsite as it was getting late. Once we had done this we returned to smugglers and were told that they were now going to open another field for us. But due to no communication from the staff we had already setup and booked at another campsite. When i asked for a refund i was passed off and could only speak to a manager a day later. He was as rude and talked over me while saying we deserved no refund etc. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Have you managed to get an update on your deposit? We also stayed the bank holiday weekend and haven't received ours back either. Keep getting excuses and false promises. Have heard of at least 6 groups who are all in the same boat.
