Nikon D90 a great camera, with all the features that needed for excellent photography. If we can understand the manual and try all the modes... you become an expert of photography... real good camera... I'd say this is the best when compared with D5100 and D7000 with in the budget (read more)

Professionals watch out! The D90 ROCKS! I'll start out by saying the D90 doesn't focus as quickly or easily as the Canon 40D, but that is where it ends. The D90 is an amazing machine that does everything well. True color, tack sharp quality, a screen so bright you need shades and controls that are easy to find and use. I have to admit that I read the quick guide after setting up the camera and shot about 1000 pictures before needing to go into the manual for some specific settings. Very... (read more)

I have been interested in photography for many years and had many different cameras. I bought a D90 to relieve my D80 from being my main camera. The D80 suits my hands, as my wrists are a bit painfull the fit is important. So I got the D90 before it goes out of production as I was concerned I might not get an upgrade as comfortable. The D90 is a D80 made better IMO. Live view is handy but not recomended for regular use - more usefull for checking difficult exposures or White balance. Image... (read more)

Canon and Nikon somewhat cunningly seem to slighter stagger their ranges, so often there was no direct comparison. I looked at the Canon 30D when I got my D80 - either would have been fine - but my arthritus in the wrists dictated. I also slightly prefered the viewfinder of the D80. Having invested in lenses and flash I stuck with it. But IMO either brand is excellent. Yes a 2nd Hand D200 would be a cheap option - the D200 & 300 are not as 'right' for me as the D80 and D90. Love the D90 for those extra updated things it can do.

Upgraded from D50 to D90 following a progression from total amateur to someone who was starting to produce decent shots and really enjoy it. D50 was great but lacked resolution if the image needed a little crop, and user friendliness for the enthusiast photographer was limited as many functions would only be alterable via the menu. The D90 has a host of dedicated buttons on the camera body to change ISO, AF mode, Flash, depth of field preview, metering mode, aperture AND shutter speed... (read more)

one of two things. Either you do not have a good oiondatufn in basic photography and/or either your friends or a salesman has fed you a line based upon opinion, not experience. And NO, the Nikon SB-600 will not fully function on a Canon camera. First because Canon lacks the radio control system that operates the Nikon SB-600 and SB-800 flash units and secondly because the trigger voltage on the Nikon flash is 12v . twice the voltage the Canon uses without the risk of damage to the Canon's electronics. High trigger voltages void the warranty on any DSLR.

After starting small with a nikon D40 and working my way up to a nikon D90 with a stable of lenses, I can safely say this is a great buy. The sensor is outstanding for the price of the camera body, it delivers crisp shots in difficult light. It's not perfect but it's as close as you get in a "budget" dslr. My only complaint would be video.
Yes, with the video you have more creative options, esp. with the ability to throw the background out of focus using a lens at say f2, but it's all but...

I bought the D90 kit for £800 last year, I took around 2000 shots with it and found around 20 I liked. Blown highlights and harsh, hard over sharpened images. I sold the camera for £500 and went back to my Nikon F6 film camera. I guess digital has a lot of catching up to do before the quality is anywhere near to film. The DX sized sensor gives the same quality as a 110 film frame. (read more)

i had this camera for about 10 months. Its really amazing and i love all its features and setting. Its easy to use. it has video recording features which is perfect for user who want a camera with video recording features. Its 4.5 frame per second was good enough for my level. The size was just nice fit onto my palm. Noise was not very visible at high ISO. The kit lens 18-105mm which come with it was a perfect match. I've had this camera for almost two months after a long overdue upgrade. I actually owned the EOS400D, but prefered the handling on Nikons after trying a few out.
It is a great camera coupled with the 18 - 200 VR lens and iso performance is as good as any camera at this price range.
I think the auto white balance often gets it wrong on this camera but it is easy to go manual and set it yourself.

White balance in Auto is a bit of a gamble at times - with any camera! This camera has the usual line up of White balance settings (Daylight, Cloud, Shade, Tngsten Fluoresecent...) my favourite one is the K (Kelvin). Use the Live view to do an initial check. If it is daylight - set it to 5000 or 5250 and go to live view. While your finger is on the WB button scroll the front roller until the colour looks right to you and you should be set as long as the light doesn't change. Simples!

I have owned a Nikon D90 for 10 months. The image quality with this 12.3 mp camera is superb. The settings are easily accessible and understood. A feature that I find really useful is that I can set the ISO range of say. 200 -1600 this allows the camera to choose the appropriate ISO leaving the aperture settings intact, very useful in low light photography. You can shoot in fully automatic mode, aperture priority, shutter priority and manual. And you can choose to shoot in jpg or RAW. The... (read more)

I'm so glad with Nikon D90, it's a great camera I recommend to prosumer segment, its very fast for outdoors, , sports and as portrait is incredible too, I can use old Nikkor lenses, great, the video clip capability is welcome gadget but not so important from my viewpoint. Apart the old lenses that I tested and worked fine, I recommend VR ones. Mines 18-105 and 70-300 mm, that's enough..for my photo needs.

The Nikon D90 is good for advanced amateurs, Highly recommended. If you don't need weather-sealing and/or slightly better build quality, this is the camera for you!. Why spend money on a D300 with a comparable/almost similar sensor? The ISO quality has been said to be better than the D300's. The D90 and D300's image quality is very similar. Good points are terrific image quality (almost the same as the D300), good ISO performance, HD 720p recording. Bad points are no weather sealing,... (read more)

If you are invested in Nikon eenqpmiut, like the flash and a few lenses, it might make sense to look at a D200, which is on par (or better than) a Canon 30D. You MIGHT see prices finally start to drop, too, since the D300 has been announced. If you only have this flash and no lenses and really want to jump ship to the dark side, go ahead and do it. You can sell the flash on eBay or in some other way and start over with Canon eenqpmiut. You can get $ 150 easily for your SB600, if not more. I know money is money, but you should not let the loss of $ 50-100 on your flash stop you from using Canon if this is what you decided that you want to do.
