“7 YEARS trying to close Mums accounts with Santander”

NEVER NEVER EVER have an account with these people. My mum had multiple bank accounts and share accounts - why I'll never know. Today the 7th anniversary of her death I've just received paperwork to say that there are more accounts they've found in her name. HOWEVER because THEY MADE A MISTAKE in the spelling of her name I once again have to submit all of the forms, the grant of probate, death certificate and get the executors who have now scattered to sign the paperwork again. “terrible customer service and complaints handling”

I had a payment which was not refunded by a merchant, even thought they had agreed a refund as i was entitled to one. I contacted the bank and asked for assistance, and it was at this point I should have seen what was to come. As the assistant spoke to me in a half professional manner, talking very rapidly and not listening to what i had to say. “loan balance confusion”

So I rang and pressed the number to get a loan balance. I agreed the figure given was correct. Then asked how much I needed to pay this month as I had overpaid last month - suddenly the balance owed had risen by £1400. Checked my credit file and yet another number £100 more than first one. Asked for settlement figure and then a fourth number. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IS RIGHT OR WRONG. Have to agree with your sentiments, Santander's protocols are just insane. From ID to internet banking OTP (One Time passcode). It's as if nobody there has the balls to make much needed changes to these antiquated processes.

“HORRIBLE BANK - WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE”

I had 3 separate accounts at Santander and a CD. One account was for my niece, opened when she was a baby. When I went to take the money (only about $200 for he graduation) I was told by the manager that they would have to research the account. After trying to get hold of him by phone for 2 weeks I was told by a rude employee that they were only responsible for accounts back so many years. I explained to the cashier that if my mother was alive to sign the cheque for her own funeral then we wouldn't be having this problem. Been with Santander a few years now and they were good to start,. Friendly and helpful in most branches but that seems to have gone now most staff don't care my statements are all over the place, money goes missing then suddenly returns but the thing that made me decide to leave was when I made a cheque payment, after 5 days it was returned unpaid with no explanation even though the the bank I paid it into said there was no problem with how I had written it and there was more than enough funds… Read Full Review

Terrible bank! It is the worst bank ever! Every attempt to make simple transaction results blocked account. Customer service ask about accurate balance of blocked account and if you miss one penny you will fail identity check, which means visit in the branch with ID. Obviously if you can not log in you would not be able to check exact balance! There are other ways to check your identity without asking stupid question, but customer service did not bother. Having read all these complaints from people that seem to create many problems for themselves. I will give you my experience based on 100% fact not rubbish. I have been with Nat West for 40 years but for the last 10 years have noticed a real difference in service. 15 years ago I opened a business account with Santander and noticed a better service although I kept my Nat West personal account open. Yeah all of the reviews (of which you've "read all" - time to get out more) are written by people who create their own problems. Sure. Of course the problem is not with Santander, it's the user. Thanks for the "100% facts, not rubbish" like all of the other reviews - including mine which was of course fabricated because I was so fecking bored!

Sadly this bank is a bit lacking on many fronts. the latest saga was.... I needed a replacement card... they told me it was ordered, it was not. They told me it would come to my local branch, it did not (London is not my local branch). They told me they would redirect it to my local branch, they lost it in the internal mail. “Moving Internet banking from I o M to main UK application”

Santander have taken months to move customers in the Isle of Man from the old alliance and leicester application to their own UK online banking application. They have enhanced security apparently, just my providing a couple of extra steps to log in. They have transferred no history of the customer accounts or transactions. I do not bank with Santander but applied for a £5000 loan at 7.4% online. Easy application and received email confirmation within 5 mins of applying. I got the rate advertised and papers arrived in first class post. I signed and returned them and money went straight into my own bank account the very next day after I returned papers.
