Been with Santander a few years now and they were good to start,. Friendly and helpful in most branches but that seems to have gone now most staff don't care my statements are all over the place, money goes missing then suddenly returns but the thing that made me decide to leave was when I made a cheque payment, after 5 days it was returned unpaid with no explanation even though the the bank I paid it into said there was no problem with how I had written it and there was more than enough funds… Read Full Review

“Avoid like the plague”

All banks are bad but Santander is the pits. Stopped my 14 y/o sons debit card without notification or reason leaving him stranded. Terrible bank! It is the worst bank ever! Every attempt to make simple transaction results blocked account. Customer service ask about accurate balance of blocked account and if you miss one penny you will fail identity check, which means visit in the branch with ID. Obviously if you can not log in you would not be able to check exact balance! There are other ways to check your identity without asking stupid question, but customer service did not bother. Having read all these complaints from people that seem to create many problems for themselves. I will give you my experience based on 100% fact not rubbish. I have been with Nat West for 40 years but for the last 10 years have noticed a real difference in service. 15 years ago I opened a business account with Santander and noticed a better service although I kept my Nat West personal account open. Sadly this bank is a bit lacking on many fronts. the latest saga was.... I needed a replacement card... they told me it was ordered, it was not. They told me it would come to my local branch, it did not (London is not my local branch). They told me they would redirect it to my local branch, they lost it in the internal mail. Recently escaped Santander home insurance holder writes: This is an unprincipled, unprofessional entity with no understanding of what insurance is about. Their aim is to rip off in whatever way they can and use every means at hand not to honour their commitments. After trying to open a business account, and going through countless hoops and expense, and the relationship Director ( joke) offering the account, they change their mind last minute after 6 weeks of discussion. “Moving Internet banking from I o M to main UK application”

Santander have taken months to move customers in the Isle of Man from the old alliance and leicester application to their own UK online banking application. They have enhanced security apparently, just my providing a couple of extra steps to log in. They have transferred no history of the customer accounts or transactions. I do not bank with Santander but applied for a £5000 loan at 7.4% online. Easy application and received email confirmation within 5 mins of applying. I got the rate advertised and papers arrived in first class post. I signed and returned them and money went straight into my own bank account the very next day after I returned papers. “Improper Maintenance Fee/Triple Interest Savings”

The story is long so I'll talk of the last 2 problems Besides having problems with getting a debt card due to their own inability to update my address on several ocassions, there's a problem with the so called triple interest savings account. 2 years ago a branch member suggested I open this account so I did as it was explained there are no fees etc. However, shortly after I found it had a $5K max monthly withdraw limit. "I don't know why they bother with the customer support call center. After a lengthy identification process (bank account number, sort code, expiry date and security number on your debit card, date of birth) all they can do for you is send a letter which will arrive in 6-7 working days! Tried help for website log in and for obtaining a statement. “Opening a 123 mini in branch... no chance”

Went in to the Esher, Surrey branch at 2.50pm this afternoon with my son to open a new 123 mini account. He is 13 and had £100 in cash to open the account with. Although only one customer in the branch at a desk and the 2 cashiers twiddling their thumbs, we were advised that it was not possible without an appointment... I had been with Lloyds TSB for over 25 years and finally decided to leave when they called me in for an account review. The 45 minute meeting was a sales pitch for their poxy products. “Disgusting customer service!!”

Santander called to asking for my personal details so i said that for security i didn't want to give it. I said I would call them back. I asked for his name and he gave it. When I called back I ask to speak to the same person I spoke to, named Bruce, they wouldn't put me through but abruptly asked for my personal details again, so i gave it. “Bad loan not happy!!!”

Was talked into a half payment when I lost my job.now I get 20/30 calls a day. Wanting payment . And the interest rait is 5dollars a day. They take money from people with poor to no credit. “Slow, unresponsive, muppets.”

Didn't even receive an acknowledgement which was promised after 5 days. 27/1 : Two weeks later I get an email requesting more information. “Customer service down the drain”

Santander in Newcastle-under-lyme is a bit away from my place. Booked two weeks back to see a certain ------ at 11:00. Went to Newcastle an hour early with my little kid and was told that they have double booked. We came first but she waited and wanted to see the other one. “Where's the Logic?”

Multiple problems since moving from HSBC in 2009. The latest is laughable. I phoned Santander to change my mobile phone number for the OTP (One Time Passcode). They took me through security and then had me confirm my address as they apparently had an "indicator" on my file to say a letter had been returned as "undelivered".
