“Switching to Santander? DON'T”

Written on: 17/05/2013

We started switching our account to Santander. My partner received a credit redirection letter with his details on it. I didn't so phoned to request one. They sent me a letter saying the form was enclosed. It wasn't. I phoned and complained. Same thing happened again. I visited the branch to complain. Same thing happened again. The third time they credited me £15 for my trouble and the same thing happened. They sent me a debit card - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. As my pay is... (read more)

“Tax Deduction Certificate”

Written on: 16/05/2013 by MaleReviewer56 (1 review written)

My 87 year old mother has 2 savings bonds with Santander. Previously with Abbey, annual tax deduction certificates were sent yearly, now they have to be requested. However the call centre informed her that as the bonds had matured/closed she would have to go into the branch - the reason being "because of security".(She has cancer and parkinsons so this would be difficult). I asked to speak to the Manager, as this was totally unacceptable but was told "he'll only say the same" but after... (read more)

“ISA TRANSFER”

Decided to transfer my HBOS ISA to Santanders instant access ISA complete with Cashline card for a better interest rate, I used the local branch and the initial meeting and form filling went great. This was on 05/04/2013, after 15 working days (which is the max recommended transfer time by HMRC) no money was in my new account and I phoned the branch and was told that it was all down to head office. The head office has an 0845 no. and as my initial contact was with the local branch I felt... (read more)

“Santander is causing untold distress!!!”

Written on: 25/04/2013 by InigoMontoya

I don't know where to start with my complaint about the appalling service that my family and I are currently receiving from this organisation. It began with us trying the 'straightforward' or should I say seemingly straightforward procedure of moving house, downsizing and purchasing another. Nothing is ever that easy in these issues but one would have thought that having been a customer of initially Abbey then santander for over 20 years this wouldn't have presented a problem. We have... “Business Banking ”

Written on: 17/04/2013

I'd be really interested to hear others experience of Santander as a business bank. My brother has recently opened an account with them for his non UK based business (having decided sensibly to move his accounts from Cyprus!) and the whole experience has been a disaster. He flew back to undertake the process and was told it was all sorted and straight forward. 5 weeks later he is still waiting to be able to make a transaction. Calls are not returned even when a commitment has been made to do... (read more)

No, it's not a one off. I opened a business account with them in late 2010. Within 4 months things were so bad I was forced to transfer my accounts to another bank. The main problem I had was that everytime I tried to make a debit card transaction, they would freeze my account! The only answer I ever got from their security dept was my transactions look suspicious. I mean, really, can you tell me what is suspicious about using your debit card twice in one day at Sainsburys!!! I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

“Spanish Bank Account.”

Written on: 17/04/2013 by St-George (2 reviews written)

I have had a personal bank account with Banco Santander since 2002 and have received various standards of service. I moved to my present location in 2006 and the local branch was excellent, however, firstly the bank manager changed to one who had obviously been demoted from a larger branch. He didn't have a clue about what he was doing but that didn't matter because the lady that looked after our account was exceptional, and you would see her instructing the manager as to what to do, so... I was seduced by their £100 bribe to switch my current account. Took months to set up correctly, with numerous hiccups along the way. Now I've been caught a second time, after being told their systems had improved and they "would do everything for me" to change to a 123 account.
