I tried opening a joint account with my wife. We received 8 letters between us containing 10 different passwords. Once on line you have t change these and then if you want to use common passwords and identification with your partner (as it is a joint account)it simply does not let you. Most infuriating hour of my life to date but after shredding the garbage I felt a little better. this must be the most difficult clumsy awkward bank you could ever try to do business with… Read Full Review

“Immoral horrible company avoid”

I have had house insurance with santander since 2013. In march 2014 my auto renew came from santander and was £329, I went online and with santander I could get for £129 (which i ordered on the 19th March- on the 21st March they took £329 for auto renewal too) So I did it online and rang and cancelled the other insurance. So this year I have got through the post two renewals for the same household. Santander never cancelled my auto renewal for my 2014 insurance. I rang them two weeks ago… Read Full Review

“Everything is just rubbish”

I don't have enough time to comment in detail on how bad this bank is, so instead I'll just give you a few headlines of abysmal performance. It takes a whole 7 day week between funds leaving my Santander current account and them being credited against my Santander credit card bill. My money just disappears for 7 days. “The worst banking experience ever”

For years I was told no electronic access. Finally I was told, yes we will send you security letters, a personal ID, password and security code. Not forthcoming, and after 2 months when I finally received, it turned out that since I live overseas and have no UK cell phone electronic access denied. When I tried to access my own money a customer service rep asked why I wanted it, as she felt it was unreasonable of me to ask for my own funds to be transferred to me. “Let down by poor customer service”

Unless Santander has a drastic improvement in the quality of its customer service, it will struggle to maintain its customer base. The sole function of the customer relations department seems to be to produce cut-and-paste generic replies, thus minor grouses quickly become major complaints, because the customer is made to feel unwanted and unvalued. My sister called to report her card stolen, gave her postcode which they noted wrong and said she didn't have an account, then when they realised the postcode was wrong argued my sister had said it wrong......my sister had the call on loud speaker so I said can we please just cancel the card, doesn't matter who got the postcode wrong,they then said calls are not allowed on loud speaker and it was left on they would finish the call, very rude tone not friendly at all… Read Full Review

Multiple times I have tried to contact customer service via phone or email. And they have not responded one single time. I am unable to access my online banking. After going to a local branch and explaining my situation I was given a temporary username and password to use. This did not work. Not a Trustworthy Bank and employees. They want you to sign up or open an account with false promises. Very poor communication. One has to provide an email address as part of establishing an account but the bank never communicates with the client. There is is not warning when and if you are overdrafting. Time to decline : 3 ... 2.... 1... 0 Your application had been declined despite being a home owner, excellent credit ratings at all three CRAs, been loyal customer for couple of years and applied the same card at least twice. 40 victims in my area have been caught in the same Bank Courier scheme. The police say all the banks of victims except Santander have refunded monies lost. Have myself been on TV and in media at request of police to help others avoid scam. Each time the media has contacted Santander they have said they are reviewing the case . Each time turned down. NEVER NEVER EVER have an account with these people. My mum had multiple bank accounts and share accounts - why I'll never know. Today the 7th anniversary of her death I've just received paperwork to say that there are more accounts they've found in her name. I had a payment which was not refunded by a merchant, even thought they had agreed a refund as i was entitled to one.
