Good Points: It's very convenient - lets you have a real 6" x 4" photo in your hand a couple of minutes after you took it. Nearly as fast as the old Polaroid cameras and picture quality is just as good. It's quite small and the cost per print isn't a lot more than some commercial photo labs I've seen. The prints are semi-glossy, smudge-free as soon as it finishes printing and they are quite durable. Very good detail in the printed images. Being a dye sublimation printer, it shouldn't have the 'banding' problems which inkjets suffer from.
Bad Points: Other reviewers have said that the printed images are too dark and I agree with them. Not horribly dark but enough to be a bit annoying unless you're viewing the photos in very bright light. I tried printing a 4:3 aspect ratio photo from my camera's CF card, and it simply chopped the top and bottom of the image off without giving the option of leaving white bands at the ends of the photo instead..
General comments: I found the instructions for loading the paper into the cassette to be kind-of vague, but the rest of the instructions were adequate. The drivers installed on Windoze XP without any problems.Overall it's not a bad little printer if you just want to hand out snapshots to friends and family, which is what I bought mine for. The prints are pretty good but not quite as vivid as commercial ones printed on the Fuji Frontier laser machines which most labs use. I certainly recommend the Selphy CP740.
