Casting Carrey as the "Yes Man" in question was a bold move because the book is about a fairly dead-pan English guy. Clearly there was going to need to be a fair amount of 'adaptation'. Nevertheless Carrey's depiction of the transition from low-esteem cynic to "can do fun guy" is plausible, highly enjoyable and crucially is at least in keeping with the "feel" of the book, if not some of its detail.

The book includes a long standing (and long suffering) girlfriend, whereas the film introduces a rom-com element through the beguiling Zooey Deschanel. Thankfully her character is oddball enough to make the match up with Carrey's rather unpleasant demeanour just about believable.

Elsewhere Terrence Stamp is a fabulous evangelist for the Yes cause, while the show is stolen by the two-second cameo of book author Danny Wallace, at Carl's party. A close second is Rhys Darby's performance as Carrey's incompetent boss.

Very funny and ok quite different in terms of detail from the book, but actually close to being as uplifting and as funny as the text on which it is based. Worth a watch.
