Good Points: High quality audioAccess to thousands of internet radio stationsPlay music stored on your PCSuperb packaging, stylish appearanceResponsive technical support by email
Bad Points: May be difficult for the non-technical user to resolve connectivity issuesEntry of special characters clumsy with current controller user interface
General comments: When I reviewed the Logitech Squeezebox Duet 18 months ago I returned the product because I could not get it to work satisfactorily over WiFi with my Netgear MR814V2 802.11b router.I recently upgraded my wireless router to a Netgear WNR2000 802.11n router - so I thought I would try again with the Squeezebox Duet. I bought it from Amazon so I could return it if I had the same problems as last time.As last time it was easy to install the Squeezebox and this time it connected first time. The only minor irritation was that it took considerable scrolling of the scroll wheel in order to locate the special characters in my security password. Once the controller and Squeezebox receiver were connected I tried my favourite internet radio stations and got flawless and reliable reception. I was soon hooked on the wide variety of quality programming I could access. It was also cool to hear a track I really liked and look at the album art displayed on the controller to see who it was by. I found that using the squeezebox to play MP3 files stored on my PC was equally painless. This time the problems I experienced were with the controller. During weekends, when my neighbours were also using WiFi connected devices, I found that the controller would lose connectivity with the Squeezebox receiver after going into sleep mode. I contacted Logitech technical support. They were really helpful and after a week the problem was resolved by updating the controller software to a beta version of the software. For the technical I am using a Netgear WNR2000 802.11n router in normal (up to 145Mb/S) mode with WPA2-PSK security, with no MAC address filtering. The controller issues are resolved by using R5225 release software (or later) and disabling wireless power save mode on the controller. The controller works without disabling wireless power save mode with the router in legacy (up to 45Mb/S) mode with the 5225 release software. The Squeezebox duet is now the most used source for my Hi-Fi - my FM tuner is in a box in the loft.

When my high end FM tuner developed a fault after 9 years I decided to investigate whether it was possible to replace it with an H-Fi internet radio device that could connect to my router via Wi-Fi. This would replace the 10 or so FM stations I could currently receive with access to thousands of internet radio stations. After reading several reviews I decided to invest £264 in a Logitech Squeezebox Duet. When the package arrived by courier on Friday evening I was looking forward to a gre ...- Read SteveR1's review (851 words)
