It was our first vist and we had our new American Son in Law visting. I was a little put off,the lounge area smelled a little of damp,the building has certainly got damp issues,the toilets in paticular need to be refurbished,on the surface they have made an effort and it was clean and comfortable. The service was exellent and we were made welcome and had time to relax have a drink,our orders were taken and we were then lead into the dining area,I have difficulty walking so found the differnt... This was our second visit ( Saturday 23/10/10 - on this occasion, for my birthday ).
As usual the food and service was to the highest standard.
I don't usually write reviews, but this is my second review. as i feel good food and service deserves praise !
But don't take my word for it - visit the restaurant for yourself - I'm sure that you won't be disapointed.

after reading the last review i was a little sceptical about going to this restaurant but i'm really glad i did. i didn't notice any smell of damp in the restaurant and i don't get the comparison between their toilets and a backstreet spanish establishment!!(their toilets are clean).. the food was great and even its origin is mentioned in the menu. the service is very good and the desserts are fantastic. its the second time i have visited and to be honest was very disappionted, there was a strong smell of damp in the sitting area, as i walked into the toilets it was a mix between a back street spanish toilet and a dogs kennel! also if your trying to be a top class restaurant then having small plastic containers of milk rather than a jug of milk with coffee is not that impressive. It let down the dining experience for me. will not be visiting again sorry :-( (read more)

We go to the Stables as often as possible because it's simply the best place to go.
The menu here sources local produce as much as possible, and service and quality is second to none.
I won't go on about what we have etc, as we'd go on too much!!!!
But with a relaxed atmosphere, and staff who go out of their way to ensure you have a nice time,what more do you want.
However, two settees that used to be in the back area for a quiet pre dinner drink have now been moved too close to the bar, so...

it was our first time to this restaurant and i have only one word to describe it, FABULOUS. the restaurant was busy, the atmosphere was relaxed, the food was excellent.
it makes a change to go somewhere in Merthyr Tydfil where the food hasn't been "cooked" in a microwave.
would definetley recommend this restaurant to my friends.

Well it was my first time to visit the stables view and i went with a big group but our personal view was that the waiters are sent back to the tables too much . they dont give you enough time to enjoy your meal because they are constantly by the table asking you do you want a drink. The meal was ok but i do think that the steak wasnt cooked w/d like i asked.
I would not recomend this restaurant to anyone and will now stick to other places in merthyr.

My daughter recommended this restaurant to me and on the occasion of my wife's birthday it gave us a good excuse to visit. I can honestly say that the food is absolutely first class and is served by excellent, courteous staff. The proprieters go out of their way to make frequent visits to their guests to ensure that everything is satisfactory. All i can say is that the food is fantastic. i had a sirloin steak as my main meal and it was delicious. i can't remember the last time i had a steak as tasty. also, i shared one of their homemade chocolate cheesecakes with my wife but now wish i hadn't as i could have eaten it all myself. i have never tasted a cheesecake like it.
overall the experience was great, i would recommend the restaurant to anyone. i definetley rate Stables View Restaurant as the best restaurant in Merthyr Tydfil.

the service and food at Stables View Restaurant, Dowlais were what you would expect from a restaurant in a much higher price bracket.
the meals range from £7.95 for a homemade vegetarian pancake up to £16.95 for a Welsh fillet steak.
have been 3 times now for a meal and will definetley be going back.

I have been over the Stables View restaurant a few times now and each time I've been over the quality of food has been outstanding.
It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the service you get is set to a very high standard.
The steak I had was so tender to cut into there was no need for a steak knife it simply melted in the mouth.
I'm actually going back over the restaurant next Saturday with a party of 7 friends and I know we will again have a fantastic evening.
I would strongly recommend...

I have visited the Stables View Restaurant on a number of occasions and found it a great Its nice to have such a restaurant in Merthyr. Staff are very welcoming and professional in their approach. I feel i have to say that the 3 friends that visited the Stables with me that night noticed the smell other wise i wouldnt have mentioned it in my review, perhaps wat i said was a harsh i just feel they trying to be something they are not, maybe its me and the fact i live in cardiff and used to such a wide variety of good fine dining resturants. I still say the toilets (althou very clean) had a smell that was not nice and they are trying to be something they are not.
