I have used Pickfords on my last move from Richmond to Dublin now after three years it was time to return to the London area. Everything else regarding the move had been problematic mainly due to a conveyancing issue on this side. The removal guys where superb worked really hard and packed my belongings really diligently, only down side they where slightly late on the day of the removal but this was due incredibly poor wheather and outside of there control however, I did have to leave them... After choosing Pickfords having used their services in the past when we were very happy with them, we were less than pleased regarding several key factors this time. 1. We were allocated a dedicated 'removal co-ordinator' whom, we were told by the salesman who quoted and estimated our move costs, would answer any questions and liaise with us at all times. This did not happen once-it was always us having to contact her whenever we needed an answer to our queries. 2. We were told that packing... (read more)

We went with pickfords as they sold it to us as being the most experienced and professional. They were twice the price of local firms but we went with them. They do a home visit to assess how much stuff you have. They turned up late on the day of the move, didn't have enough staff and the van wasn't big enough. This was all because the assessor didn't do his job properly. The staff were actually bricklayers who only do this when their trade is quiet in winter !! hardly professional then ! We... (read more)

Pickfords packed, stored and moved our belongings from Cornwall to London. When they delivered our things they scratched the floor in multiple places - significant scratches about 20cm long, they broke our bed and didn't admit it, they put our sofa together but left a bolt out of the bottom of it so that it created an indent in the floor, they broke a dining room chair etc etc etc. when we spoke to them , they were very dismissive, in the end we had someone come round and make things look... We had an overseas move. First issue the volume: It seems to be a very commun scam from Prickfords. Since you are not an expert, it is difficult to assess your own volume. After their "expert" assessement, they provide a quotation you accept based on this volume. But they make sure that you sign a contract with the mention that in case of increase of volume...you have to pay. You trust them since you won't add anything. And you have one third of your items left over, waiting to be shipped in... (read more)

I moved out of Amsterdam, didn't settle for a bit more than a year, during which time my effects were in storage in London. I visited the storage facility twice in that time. Very recently my effects were delivered to Stockholm. Overall, good, except... 1. The pickup team were late arriving in Amsterdam and I had a flight to catch; as a result, I wasn't there for the entire packing. 2. Now my effects have been delievered, a 1500 UKP painting is missing. As far as can be seen, it wasn't... (read more)

Pickfords have been APPALLING, nothing less. I moved from the UK to New Zealand over a year ago and although they damaged a lot of my items, I am still waiting for a payout. The items would not have smashed if they had properly been packed, nor would an antique teak day bed have had its leg chopped off it it had not been laid on its side with the weight of the whole container on top! I had antique pots crack, tables warped, soft furnishings solied etc etc. The girl I have been dealing with... (read more)

I wish I had used another company. While we liked the removal men, their office admin staff even who proved pretty ineffectual even before the move ('move coordinator' - a joke, perhaps?) should have made me re-think our choice. Once our goods were in storage (for 3 months) the actual business of planning the move into the new place was tedious and the person assigned totally totally useless (I think he left). Then, before or during the re-delivery, they lost two large bookcases (7 shelf,... (read more)

I moved from Aberdeenshire to Derbyshire, with a very full house of furniture and bric a brac. Pickfords were helpful and informative from the start, from the sales rep, to Sara, the move co-ordinator in the Aberdeen office, to the crew who came to pack, and the driver, Peter, and crew who delivered to my new house, nearly 400 miles away. They kept to the dates and times arranged and were punctual. The packing crew were extremely careful and efficient, and much quicker than when I pack. I... (read more)

My partner and I had our belongings shipped from Italy to the Uk using Pickfords. The price was excessive for the volume of furniture that was being shipped but it seemed like our only option. The removal men who were from a subcontracted Italian company very carefully packaged up our goods but the lengthy wait that followed was incredible. We were told that our belongings were being stored in Ancona (a city further South than Bologna so not really a logical choice for storage). They... (read more)

My family recently moved from Sidcup in Kent. We had arranged with Pickfords the moving day and time the crew were expected to arrive on moving day. Although we had been informed the time would be approximately 7.30am the crew did not arrive until approximately 11.45am. Although Pickfords did telephone from time to time to keep us informed, it turns out that when they had taken our booking for moving within the UK they had omitted to book a crew! When the crew eventually arrived, they... (read more)

Being in the armed forces we didn't get a choice of removal companies, and got allocated Pickfords. For the military they do not provide insurance and recommend you buy your own - which we did. Based on this they take no care at all of your property, they literally forced items through the doors causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage to the larger items and the walls and doors of the new house. When I called to complain, especially about the damage to our large £700 fridge freezer they... (read more)

Never, ever, use this company if you value either your goods or service. I could write a hugely lengthy review, but I really don't wish to waste any moer time thinking about this company. So in summary: - Delivered at 8am on a Saturday when scheduled for 1pm - Delivered nine boxes instead of ten - Couldn't find missing box for three weeks - Never returned our calls - Didn't apologise until I asked for one - No sense of urgency - Terrible customer service, and tried at all costs to stop me... The move was a disaster from beginning to end. The first appointment for someone to come around was booked and as we lived in an Army Barracks we explained the adviser would need to bring additional ID, such as driving licence etc and all he brought was his PIckfords pass which we already explained would not be enough, so he was turned away. When he eventually came back three days before the move, he wasn't sure what items were what, brought no boxes explaining that the crew would pack on... (read more)

We thought it would be simple and straight forward - move our stuff from Kent to Surrey. I got 3 quotes from different companies and was impressed by the Pickfords man who came out to give us a quote. He was very professional and nice and the quote was very good. That's where the good service finished. The 'move co-ordinator' assigned to us was rude, ignorant, unprofessional, unhelpful and for 2 weeks leading up to our move date she was on holiday without informing us before-hand. Getting... They say you only find out how good a company is when something goes wrong. Based on that my opinion is that Pickfords is an awful company, and I would never deal with them again. I moved house in April. On delivery, the Bristol branch of Pickfords broke the base of a wardrobe, tore all four corners of a mattress, and damaged a wall and ceiling. I had paid extra for their insurance to cover just such an eventuality, so I immediately contacted them to claim for the damaded furniture and... (read more)

We used Pickfords when moving from the UK to the Canary Islands. The move coordinator was incompetent and getting information out of her was like trying to pull teeth. After assuring us everything would fit into the 20' container we contracted for, without consultation they left off some really high value items, and wanted an extortionate amount to deliver them to us. I have moved on average every 22 months over the last 18 years.
I recently moved from Turkey to the UK and there was considerable damage to my shipment. Pickfords are now refusing to honour their contract in respect of the insurance as they say that several of the over 20 items damaged were the subject of a claim from a previous move. I am totally surprised by all the negative comments below. We used Pickfords for our move from Toronto in May this year. DO NOT USE PICKFORDS - We paid for a container for our car and contents to go to Cyprus - BIG MISTAKE. Pickfords Removals do not seem to do small moves, or did not welcome my custom -- they gave me a ridiculous quote of ~ £1000 for moving the contents of one bedroom, sans furniture, to a destination 15 minute's drive away. This was about 10 times the asking price of other companies. If they do not do small moves I would rather they have had said that right away, rather than give me such a ludicrous quotation. Is it the practice of Pickford expectedly professional packers to pack this way?So far I have had no response from Pickfords.
