Service slow and snail like despite not being busy, food okay, grumpy owner/waiter who was dressed scruffily!

So; Newfs can swim in any sea to rescue pelope, guard and play with children with no supervision, scare invading armies to death, and... thatch a roof.Settles just which dog is best, doesn't it?Also; love that thatching is still a regular practice in Jolly Ol'. First impression, WOW, How beautiful the restaurant is decorated and furnished to very high standard. It is a pity the food does not reflect the same high standard. It is overpriced and poor quality, 2 slivers of liver,( we all know this is CHEAPEST MEAT IN BUTCHERS) 2 Spoons of mash surrounded in gravy,NO vegetables, supposed to be bacon in the mash!!!! £12.95p. left hungry and went to local pub to fill up. Lasagne, about 2inches square with a couple of rocket leaves and a slice tomato, oh did get 2 garlic bread. £9.95p Steak and Kidney pudding, with about 6 chips, they were chunky though £12.95p 'Unbelievable' Last meal consumed by Lasagne eater, had bad stomach since. Would not go again obviously, and certainly would not recommend, much nicer food to be found in surrounding area of Gnosall and Stafford, WITH VERY REASONABLE PRICES.

My companion & I dined at The Shropshire last night (17/7/12) & had a wonderful time there. A warm welcome awaited us from the friendly & helpful waiter, who was happy to answer all our questions about the variety of menus they have on offer & the evening menu, which we were presented with. The venue was tastefully decorated, clean, light & airy & in a lovely rural setting. The choice was substantial & although one of the specials was no longer available, this was down to them using fresh, locally sourced produce & not something, therefore, I consider a cause for complaint. We were comfortably seated whilst we ordered, then shown promptly to our table, where the food was also quick to arrive. Little details impressed me, such as the sparkling cutlery & the waiter wearing gloves as he delivered the food. The wine & 'fizz' list gave good choice & the food could not have been better. Our starter of artisan breads & olives was easily enough for two to share & substantial main course portions, meant we sadly had no room for dessert. The quality of the food was excellent & the meats were tender & fell off the fork. Homemade chips were delicious. Prices were very reasonable & there was also a children's menu, which my autistic daughter (who has very delicate tastes) would easily be able to select from. We will definitely return here.

Went to celebrate two birthdays. Table was not properly cleaned before we sat down. Choice was the most limited that I have ever seen. Sunday roast was the only option. I had yorkshire pudding which was taste less and over cooked, unlike the potatoes which were under cooked. All the food was very dull. Service poor.

Like - having choice in all aspects. Now Stuart and Janet own The Shropshire, they source everything to their own high standards. Like - The Shropshire options of bar food and restaurant menus. Also opportunities for speciality nights, eg gastronomic, fresh fish/seafood dishes. Like - The Shropshire Menu range which reflects quality in food sourcing, cooking and presentation. The Shropshire staff, chef and his team consistently deliver to the highest standards. They continuously review their own performance to improve what is offered to their customers. Like - spaciously laid out tables in the comfortable classy restaurant or in the bar where there is an open log fire. Whichever you choose everything in the Shropshire is immaculate. The Shropshire restaurant set up is flexible and can provide for both parties and intimate meals. Like - excellent range of real ales and selected wine bins. The Shropshire owner, Stuart, is very particular about the quality of his beers, if there's a problem he'll sort it out, pdq. Like - the classy decor furnishings and the TLC touches in the Shropshire. These are definately down to Janet's skill and flare for such things. Like - The Shropshire garden in summer watching the flowers and shrubs growing throughout the year, having a few beers sitting on the benches on the lawn when the sun is getting lower and lower - a settling and rewarding experience.

Me and my family have been eating at the shropshire in on a regular basis for the past 12 months and we absolutly love it! Everything about it makes my every visit extra special. Starting with the food, its just delicious! Fantastic value for money, perfect portions and always a beautiful meal from an exciting menu with a wide range of choices and specials. Next, the service can't be put to fault, the bar and waiting on staff are all brilliant, friendly and hard working! I will contine to use the shropshire and highly recomend it. Its very clear why they're winning awards for such outstanding efforts! Thank you to all of the team! See you soon!

We were so impressed with every aspect of this place. The decor, the atmosphere, the layout......the service couldn't be faulted. The staff were very attentive and friendly without being over the top. The menu choice was great and the food was truly the best I've ever tried when eating out. My hubby and I had recently become disillusioned with the experience of eating out, struggling to find a place that 'hit the spot'. Well now we've found it and we're going to keep on going back. I agree with the previous reviewer, the chef really knows his stuff regarding cooking and presentation. Plus I believe they source locally where possible. The desert was home made and truly delicious. I'm a nutritionist and am always on the look out for places to recommend to people to encourage them to eat real, freshly cooked food, and The Shropshire Inn is somewhere I'm very happy to keep on recommending. So pleased to see that customer service is not dead in this country after all!

My partner and I Passing through.. liked the look of the place..decided to give it a try . Very pleasantly surprised! The place itself beautifully designed : laid out with an attention to detail and the smell of fresh flowers in the air. It felt like a top notch restaurant. The beer was the best and the food was excellent and couldn't be faulted .My partner had the sea bass ,I went for a grilled steak with the trimmings . Both meals were delicious..likewise the desserts and beautifully presented. This guy in the kitchen really knows what he is doing. After a tiring day what a pick- me-up.We found the service good and vowed on each passing trip to keep calling in.We found many London restaurants not as good and much more expensive. My aprtner and I "popped" in to The Shropshire Inn in Haughton for a quick lunch-time snack a couple of months ago and were overwhelmed at how much it had changed. The decor was lovely, the staff were very friendly and professional and above all the food was beautiful. We were tempted by the 2 course week day special (2 courses for £7.95)and after ordering were a little nervous about what we would actually get, it was only £7.95 per person after all. WELL, we soon came to realise that our "snack" would replace our evening meal that day as the portions were full, the choice was varied and the standard was that of a Fine-Dining restaurant, which I'm sure, would have easily been charging TWICE that price for the same menu. Suffice it to say, it enticed us to become "regulars" and since then we have also tried the Sunday Carvery, Specialty Fish Night and general Evening A La Carte Menus - ALL of which have left us thoroughly satisfied and happy with our visits. Enormous praise to the owners (who I am informed, have been there just under 12 months) and their staff, for acheiving an overall wonderful dining experience. Many thanks and We look forward to our next visit.

Attended the Shropshire for a reunion lunch with 50+ ex colleagues on the
19th of May.I can't thank Stuart and Jan for their hospitality, and the way they looked after us, nothing was too much trouble. The food and the service
was superb, and cannot be faulted. This is the first time that most of us have been to the Shropshire Inn,and from the comments I overheard, it won't be the last. Thankyou once again Stuart & Jan from Lyn & All.

What a transformation a year makes! Found sometimes we have to wait for a table because of demand but it's worth it. With comfortable seats around the bar we are able to relax with an aperitif. Great Food, excellent service, friendly and considerate staff, good choice of quality Beers and Wines. The guest beers are always good. The Fish and Chip Night and 'Jamie's' Pie Night are absolutley brilliant and worth every penny. The Sunday Carvery is mouthwatering and great value, superb meats and loads of veg cooked to perfection. Stuart and Janet you are excellent hosts and just what The Shropshire Inn needed. Tip: - Book in advance

Having eaten at the Shropshire on sat 26th feb i have to say what a very pleasant experience it was the staff greeted us with a smile and this continued all evening no matter who came to the table,we chose 3 courses which is unusual for us but the menu was tempting, the portions nearly beat us though, the rump steak i had was superbly cooked and tender as was the fillet my partner enjoyed. All in all a great night out and very much recomended to all.

Yet again a triumph for Stuart, Jan and their excellent team of staff. We held a family dinner at The Shropshire last night for 12 people and were greeted with warmth by everyone. We were taken to a specially laid table to cater for our larger party and were given menus and time to choose in comfort. The starters arrived with little waiting time and as always were excellent. The table was cleared and the mains followed shortly afterwards and the same with the sweets. We weren't rushed from the table at the end of the meal as happens in a lot of establishments but when we retired to the bar we were treated with the same cordiality as in the restaurant. Be assured that the Shropshire offers a very warm welcome (not just the beautiful open fire) to anyone who calls in and comes highly recommended to all. My only wish is I could add more stars for service, quality and value. Good luck to all and heres to a long future.

Our visit to The Shropshire was the first that my husband and I had taken when invited along for a family meal; and I can only describe it as a positive experience. As we arrived we were greeted by friendly smiles from the staff which continued throughout the evening. The food was perfectly cooked and presented and the choice of desserts was also fantastic! The seating area by the bar makes for a lovely after dinner drink and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I shall definitely be visiting again and would just like the thank all staff for our wonderful evening.

Been once before for sunday carvery whilst the restaurant has been under new management and loved it, the meats were delicious and cooked to perfection. Most recently visited for dinner and had a lovely evening: the service was personal and very friendly and the food was delicious from start to finish. From what I can tell the restaurant has undergone a big turn around in recent weeks and I'd definitely go again.
