    Good Points: price
    adjustable trigger
    Fairly accurate

Bad Points: Stock could be a bit longer for larger framed people

Brass tacks accurate, when fitted with a Beeman sport aperture sight. I removed the factory rear sight, and fitted this after about a day of fine tuning the adjustments, this will easily shoot quarter sized groups offhand at 100 ft. Unfortunately $60 for this sight to accurize this rifle sort of negates its appeal, and now in this price range, there is a huge selection of air rifles.

this would be a slick rifle if the rear dovetail was a bit longer allowing for scope fitment. And or it came ...

When shooting the new 5.1g wadcutter Crosman Silver Eagle lead free pellets that some have complained about, seem to work fine in this gun. They gave me chrony readings of 581.1 fps for a low and a high number of 597.7 fps. Deviation was also good with the overall string average of 589.6 fps. Again more importantly the gun retained its accuracy shooting these.Other good pellets I've found are Gamo Match 7.7g that gave me 497.5 fps and the amazing Crosman Silver Eagle hollow point lead free pellet ...

I have my IZH-61 now for more then a year. It was my first airgun and attempt to start up target shooting. Out of the box the IZH-61 is ready to shoot at 10m targets with some adjustments to the iron sights. And that is what I did indoor of course.
Then came the first problem with fitting a scope. I fitted a 4x44mm Nikko Sterling 30/30 1/4"@100yard scope. It is a lenghty scope around 11.8". Fitting the scope normally was not healthy at all.
If the mounts were on both sides of the turret then ...

I have fitted a 4x28 mini scope on my Baikal IZH-61 and will hit targets at 35 mts, not a hunting rifle but a nice fun plinker crono reading 468fps with Geco 7.00 gr.
I recommend this carbine as what it is meant to be - a trainer/fun plinker and I just love it .
I have no feed issues. I recommend short flat headed wadcutters such as Geco, as a poorly seated pellet may cause a stoppage.

My Baikal IZH-61 arrived in a plain brown cardboard box containing the rifle itself, 2 plastic 5 shot clips, a spare mainspring and piston seal, and a cleaning rod. I had heard that some Baikal rifles are shipped without an instruction manual, but I wasn't let down ... it was however solely in Russian.
As some of the operations (especially removing the clip) are not that intuitive you really do need the manual - luckily translations are available on the web.

My first impression on seeing h ...

Ive had the Baikal IZH-61 rifle for well over 3 years now. It was sitting in my garage collecting dust for around 2 of those years.
I have only tested this in my garden and it's been quiet hard to group, although I have only been using the sights supplied with the rifle.
Distance wise, my garden is small (about 10 metres), however I have just shot a crow off my neighbour's roof (20 metres). All the other crows went MENTAL - I haven't heard so much cawwing before in my life! Anyway, it;s a ni ...

The Baikal IZH-61 is a good air rifle for indoor or short range outdoor shooting. Not a hunting rifle. Sights need improvement. Its a nice addition to the collection. I still preffer the RM422 Crossman which costs the same and is much more accurate.

When I bought the Baikal IZH-61 it really looked good. Is like some sort of "space rifle". The second time I used it a pellet got stacked inside the barrel. When I tried to "push it back" with the tool supplied by BAIKAL (is it so frequent that they send you the tool?) it went back and there is no way to access the barrel except if you disengage everything in the rifle. Disappointed.
Is a nice piece but forget about durability.

Recently purchased Baikal IZH-61 and enjoyed the air rifle very much until yesterday when all hell broke loose. The first problem was a failure to lock and cock and this allowed pellet to enter the barrel. I than had the problem of how do i remove the pellet from the barrel or remove the clip. recocking only loaded a second pellet into the barrel fortunately both came out with firing. The next cocking worked but the rifle fired when I tried to lock the cocking handle down. This happened a num ...

I put a red dot sight on my Baikal IZH-61 and it's fairly accurate. The gun cocks very easy and you can crank shots off quickly. I like it.

I wanted a "garden gun" to demolish beer cans at about 12 meters. After reading the reviews here and elsewhere on the Net, I ordered my IZH-61 from Ramsbottom. £60+£5(P&P) and four days later it arrived. The Russians aren't big on fancy boxes with pretty pictures, but what you do get is a superb rifle, spare spring and seal, a cleaning rod and NO instructions.
Having read on the Net that it is advisable to strip, clean and lube it, that's what I did.
I found a site with full stripp ...

Accuracy quite bad. Too light. Too soft. Too short distance among aiming tools. Too week. This rifle just for starters.

This is a very unusual air rifle. It looks different. It is very pleasant to shoot. The threads on the muzzle end of the barrel were very rough. I wire wheeled them to get rid of the burs. The barrel itself was loose enough to twist out by hand even though it had a red thread locking compound on it. The plastic buttstock had a teaspoonful of gritty material like blasting sand in it. That could have caused premature failure in short order. Care must be used not to depress the magazine cat ...

The Baikal IZH-61 air rifle is fun and easy to use. Can be carried for long periods without fatigue. Built in scope rail, adjustable buttstock (to which additional section can be manufactured easily in a lathe shop to make it even more adjustable), open iron sights decent but rear sight is only windage adjustable. No safety (but can be decocked), anti beartrap side lever locks onto receiver. Excellent starter/youth rifle.

The Baikal IZH-61 is an excellent rifle for fun.
Please notice when buing anything made in Russia take 3 products (rifles) and examine them thoroughly before buying. In most cases, rifles differ from each other a lot.
However, if you get one of a good quality you won't be disappointed.

Power can be easily increased by changing a few parts - that's what most Russian users do with their rifles.

I recently bought a Baikal IZH-61 air rifle from JS Ramsbottom, simply because it looked interesting and because it was so cheap (approx £60). When you first pick up the gun it feels light and looks tiny, and the looks are an acquired taste (you would get laughed out of the gun club), however it is very good at being a simple back garden can-killer. Its 5-round mag (you get 2) means that you can blast cans in double-quick time, I managed to get a rate of 1 shot per second (honestly!) out o ...
