Moved into new house in 2005 boiler brand newand pre installed, told it was the best thing since sliced bread. Has broken down ever since with numerous PCBs fitted to name one of it's faulty parts in the first winter.
Yesterday the heating exchange unit was replaced five hour job and three engineers. My son has a serious illness and the nhbc cover we have has for the last two years left us for two weeks in winter with no heating or hot water. So all in all rubbish boiler, rubbish service!

This is a terribly bad boiler. Ours was fitted into the new conversion we moved into 4 years ago, and in that period we've had a BG repair man out on average ever 3 months. Nearly every single part has been replaced so far and its now broken down again. We're now used to having electric heaters on standby and dont even bother taking them back down to the garage anymore, as it'll only be a month or so until something different breaks down.

This was installed on a new build property back in October 2005, since then we have had 8 (Eight), yes 8 interventions under the 2 year builders warranty period (All interventions we carried out by Ideal). We've just found out from Ideal themselves that they were called out to it twice even before we moved in!
Since then we have had 3 major breakdowns which have left us without hot water and heating for upwards of a week (Yes we did us the immersion heater). ...

I bought a new house from in 2005 that came with an Ideal Istor HE260 boiler preinstalled. This unit operated without incident for four years until the circuit breaker supplying the boiler tripped and the carpet around the boiler became saturated. A heating engineer was called and he diagnosed the problem as being a leak from the heat exchanger unit.

The leak was caused by a pin-hole/void in a 5mm thick aluminium casting and, as an engineer by trade, I recognise that this hole was caused by a ...

After about two and half years of light use, the unvented water tank on my Ideal Istor HE260 started to leak from the joint where the mains water enters. The leak was enough to gently irrigate the carpet in the airing cupoard, but not water enough to be noticeable for several months. The tank is contained in the bottom part of the boiler enclosure. Ideal Customer Service initially advised they do not cover unvented tanks, although it was supplied as part of a new build apartment, they also se ...
