    Good Points: Fast shutter speed, long battery life, good software, brilliant colour, easy to use, clear screen icons, advanced options, positive mode stop (ie easy to set it on auto mode without looking), in camera categorisation of images. Easy move to digital zoom.


    Bad Points: Software doesn't seem to allow PC storage into a user defined directory, with a default in the PC "pictures file". Not the fault of the camera.


    General comments: The Canon Ixus 970 IS is my third modern compact digital camera and the second Canon. As with most Canon products, installation of software and the manual is trouble free and straightforward.

    With 10 megapixel definition and the usual high quality lens, this is a joy to use and the results superb.

    One of the best features of an earlier Canon was the good battery life, and this new camera is also superb, with an external charger (preferred to having to leave the battery in the camera to charge.)

    Shutter speed is much improved over the model from 4 years ago making it almost instantaneous without the flash, but not quite as fast as a good SLR.

    With 2 Gb cards now so cheap, (not included) using a good image size is not a problem.

    Zoom Browser software (included) is easy to use and a useful function of the latest version is the easy ability to rename/number batches of images.

    This is one powerful easy to use camera and highly recommended.
