After quite a long journey we found the Red Lion a friend had bought a Groupon voucher for 4 and for the price she had paid we were a little worried about what we would receive. We duly arrived and found a very attractive bar area which at 1.15 pm was quite busy. After we had obtained our drinks we were told where our table was and duly went and sat down. After a short while we were told that we could go to the carvery a very pleasant surprise choice of 4 meats, 6 vegetables and all the... (read more)

My husband and I with 2 friends booked a table for last Saturday night. We got a warm welcome at the bar asked what we would like to drink and then given menus. We had a choice of tables as only 1 other table taken and all evening only 4 more people arrived having said this it was an awful evening weather wise. I had the best steak I have had for a long time and would recommend it.The food was very hot and nice to have it on a hot plate. The sweets very nice not a lot of choice but well... (read more)

When we arrived, two members of staff were sat at separate tables eating. No customers! Quite surprising at 7pm on a Saturday night! As my friend and I approached the bar, neither of them got up to serve us. One of them did arrive to get our drinks but did not ask if we were planning to eat with them and therefore didn't provide us with a menu. They continued eating. As I went to look at what appeared to be a specials board, I came upon the menu and took two. After we had finished our... (read more)

We have never eaten in the Red Lion before but decided to go there with my parents (who live locally) for a Friday lunch meal. The service was very good, the staff being both attentive and pleasant without being overpowering. The food was very good overall but only spoilt by serving up some chips which seemed to have been re-heated rather than freshly cooked. This was a disappointment and spoilt an otherwise excellent meal as the rest of the food was superb and it would not stop us returning... (read more)

Dropping in to The Red Lion at Newton on the off chance on a journey home from Norwich to Sheffield. The menu of fresh homecooked vegetables was a welcome change from the usual deep fried chips and burgers most pub food serve nowadays. The service was great and the food delicious. If we ever pass that way again we will certainly call in again. (read more)

Arrived at The Red Lion on a busy weekend, wet and hungrey. After been informed that we should have booked first - we waited in the bar area for 15 minutes before the management confirmed that we could be accommodated.
We purchased drinks, were shown to our table and within minutes were called to the carvery serving area. The meats on offer were cooked fresh and looked fantastic. The vegetables were vibrant and colourful, again all cooked freshly. An assortment of sauces and gravy, were too...

The atmosphere and food were excellent. I have eaten there several times before but this was the first time I'd had Sunday lunch - it certainly won't be the last! The quality of the meats on the carvery was superb as were the vegetables. As the person organising (for the first time) such a large party I was a little apprehensive as to how a.) the pub would cope and b.) how my friends would like it. There were no problems with either. 10 out of 10 for value for money: carvery was just under... (read more)

The Red Lion at Newton, Newton near Sleaford, is a very nice country pub with a wlcoming open fire in the winter months. The food is very good throughout the week and the sunday lunches are the best we've ever had in a pub. They are so tasty and you can help yourself to the vegetables. There is a pleasant outside eating area in the summer. The current landlord has worked hard to improve not only the food but also the surroundings in this once very popular pub that had sadly become rather... (read more)

I thought The Red Lion at Newton had gone downhill until the new owners took over with a lot of investment and a new chef it has really come back up to scratch.
My husband and I now eat there regularly as they have different specials every week. They also do the best sunday lunch you can get in a pub for miles around.

We visited recently as a foursome expecting to have dinner, for which we had booked a table.
Upon arrival the greeting was mediocre and no enquiry as to wether we were dining.
The bar service was ordinary and we too had to sort the menus and the specials.
It was a cold hole, we were the only four for quite a time then three came and quickly went.
The service was fair but the scraping of the plates, at our table, when main course was cleared took me back to cafe standards.
The signage locally referred to "under new management" but frankly I question wether they will be open for much longer !!
We will not be going back under any circumstances.
