Pretentious menu - What one is really served is average pub grub with dollops of inappropriate "cheffy" style sauces slapped over and then having the bill bumped up by 150% or so for these dubious additions.
Taste combinations were bizarre and frankly poorly thought out.
Decent quality beers assuaged the unpleasantness of the meal a bit.
Won't go here to eat again I'm afraid.

A very well thought out seasonal menu with daily changing blackboards to go with it. Belly pork, Shin of Beef, Hare, Pheasent, Pigeon, Scallops, your average pub this is not ! If its well done steak your looking for, find your nearest Carvery inn and let them murder the ingredients for you.
Freshly prepared and to order is how it is there with something for everybody.
We had the Duckling with vanilla sauce and Black bream with tandoori onion bahji, absolutely gorgeous.Desserts are lovely...

If you like stake well done this is not the place to go. We know the supplier of the meat is excellent it was one of the reasons we went there, therefore we can only assume that the chef cannot cook a well done stake. We did say the stake was poor but the staff were not interested. We waited to get the menu for desert for ages and the desert we ordered took so long to arrive we were almost at the point of leaving - not worth waiting for. We paid our bill and left this was my first visit and... (read more)

The Staff of Life Inn, Mowsley place has a great atmosphere, roaring log fire in the winter and great outside eating area in the summer. The menu is ever changing both printed and blackboards. Over 15 wines available by the glass with a good selection of other beers lagers too. Well run, good service and value for money compared with other food pubs in this area. Check out their website and give them a try, I'm sure you will not be disappointed. (read more)

The food on offer at The Staff of Life Inn I could only describe as pub food but very pretentiously seemed to be dressed as something much more. I thought it was very over priced. Vegetables appeared to be 'micro-waved' as did the soup. There seemed to be some artistic licence with the description of some of the courses. A few bits of strategically placed fruit, good food does not make!
We had high expectations of this pub, having had a recommendation from a couple of friends. However,...

I disagree with this review because... The food is cooked from fresh. The soups are definitely not heated in a microwave as you can see them on the stove if you look through kitchen window and lastly the Staff of life has such a good reputation in the area and in all reputable guide books (The AA, The Good Pub Guide etc) to name a few.

I found this review not helpful because... the reviewer claims to know that it was good beef but asked for it well done, forfeiting any credibility.
