Good Points: The Fiat Palio is an impressive car. First of all, its 1.2 petrol engine: if you didn't know about it you wouldn't say it was a 1.2. And even though it isn't a racing car, the Palio pulls rather well with an engine like this, despite being a bit on the pushy side of fuel economy. The interior is a much better improvement from the earlier model for this 2006 make tested herein, and the controls seem to blend in rather well. The trim level in question is also 'OK', with front electric windows standard, remote controlled power door locks, mini on board computer ( or microcomputer with trip information ), MP3 player, 2 airbags ( optional - taking up the space allocated for the second glove box ), air conditionning ( also costly optional extra ), fog lamps, and floor mats. Ironically though, the dashboard looks solid, complete, and quite modern for an Brazilian Fiat. Driving-wise though, the Palio handles pretty well. It takes turns with authority and firmly despite sharing the same platform as the Siena, with its wooshy suspension. This doesn't seem to affect the palio too much since it doesn't 'jump' as the Siena does.

Bad Points: The fuel economy isn't reasonable for a 1.2 petrol, but this is an old engine. The Diesel is an old 1.7 liter, also used in the fiat UNO and seems to barely cover the basics of the Palio. The suspension is somewhat soft but this blends in beautifully with the steering making the car fluffily smooth.

General comments: If you plan to buy a cheap import then you might as well go brazilian. Yes, brazil isn't the best place to get a car from but that's where they make the US/Canada VW Golf. This means nothing you can reflect on, but it might reassure you as to whether or not you can gamble your money on something that came in on a boat. The Palio Fire isn't that bad of a bargain either once all is weighted in. The exterior looks, reworked, seem to blend in with today's most modern rockets, Golf included, and the interior isn't that bad either, provided you don't mind cheap plastic.
