“handy but noisy”

Written on: 26/08/2011 by veramc

Warm welcome and money changed hands after we were asked to settle up on arrival (now know it was because Ed wouldn't be around much) weren't told what time breakfast was, arrived at 10;30 am and were told the kitchen was closed!! No refund was given!! asked on first evening for someone to look at T.V. and was told to just work about with leads as no-one was there to look at it, it was never looked at!! Lots of workmen, who were staying in B&B, they were very noisy, blasting music and drinking... (read more)

We were greeted at Bridgewater Farm B&B with a warm smile and given a double room with ensuite shower/loo. TV and Tea/coffee facilities. Extra tea/coffee was available in the comfy lounge/diningroom.
Everything was clean and in good working order. Comfy bed.
We ate dinner in the pub across the road, which was very good too.
As we left for an early flight we can't comment on the breakfast but we were offered continental if wanted.
For a small fee Paul took us to the airport which was... (read more)

We stayed on a Friday night before heading to the airport in the early hours of Saturday morning. Our room was lovely and fresh and clean and the bathroom facilites were more than adequate.
We missed breakfast due to the early start so can't comment here.
Taxi transfer was fine at £9 either way and parking at the B&B was great value at £1 a day.
I would stay again if I was in the area. (read more)

What a dreadful person this must be I stayed one night with my wife at Bridgwaterfarm before flying out of Bristol Airport to Turkey. Very clean room with tea & coffee making facilities in room hair dryer large new flat screen TV piping hot shower like a jet wash then continental breakfast all for £60 I felt this was very good value.
I left my car and paid £1 per night parking whilst I enjoyed my holiday then used the airport taxi to return. Well done Bridgwaterfarm. (read more)

i stayed at Bridgwaterfarm, due to the fact it was close to bristol airport. big bit of advice - if you need an airport transfer via a taxi then be advised to book it yourself. mine was booked by person who checked me in. when taxi arrived next morning 20 minutes late the driver said it was for someone else. i was the only person up in the whole place as it was early! after another 10mins and calls to his office he agreed to take ME although none to happy to airport this cost me £9

What you find at the Bridgewater B&B is excellent value for money.
I am a professional contractor that needed short term accommodation when I found Bridgewater B&B. It was a breath of fresh air compared to other places in the same price range. Genuinely friendly and inviting staff who makes you feel at home.
I read some of the other bad reviews on here and totally disagree. If you want 5 star accommodation, then pay 80 pounds per night and do not give bad reviews to a place that is just good... (read more)

Words from a seasoned traveller...
Bridgewater B+B is a really great place to stay. It's only 15mins from the centre of town and even less to the Airport! With that in mind it was very pleasing to still find the farm retained it's peaceful atmosphere. The rooms are all new with soft carpets and walk-in wet rooms...a very nice touch. And as for the beds... very comfy indeed. All round its maintained excellently, breakfast is spot on and there's plenty of parking to boot. So i can't recommend... (read more)

Written on: 13/09/2010

This place was a huge disappointment and I tend to agree with another reviewer that the only recent positive reviews were probably written by the staff themselves. The room was small, no where to hang clothes, the bed uncomfortable and very creaky and practically no cold water pressure. The breakfast was only average and the sausages inedible. The rates quoted don't include VAT and this can only be found tucked away in the T&Cs, definitely sharp practice! Don't stay here. (read more)

Very clean accommodation and friendly staff. Welcoming owners who were very informative and recommended places to go in Bristol.

We were able to have a room at 8 in the morning after coming back from Bristol centre until the following day at 11 in the morning for £50. Which meant we had two sleeps for the £50 representing great value for money. (read more)

Written on: 13/08/2010

The nicest thing about this B&B was the friendly young lady who appeared to be running the place almost single handedly. The most practical thing would be location if you're traveling by air. Then alas,it's downhill from there.
The room that was booked by phone didn't mmaterialise.
Pro's:
location to the airport
friendly welcome

con's
Tiny room
it doesn't cater for young children (no high chairs/travelcots)

Written on: 14/07/2010

Based on staying at this place, and reading the reviews, it is obvious to me that the star ratings being so opposite in opinion, that only the disfavourable ones can be close to the truth and are written by genuine guests. The faulty English displayed in the favourble reviews can only have been posted by the very nice young woman employed at this B&B, during the quieter hours of her housekeeping duties. It's a deliberate ploy, no doubt of Ed's instruction, to boost the average rating on... (read more)

Bad... stayed there in July 09, last year and the service was bad. When we arrived at the B&B, a foreign young woman, who could hardly speak English, got to us to greet us but with a bad start since she could not find the booking even though Edward, which was not there, had assured us that our booking was reserved on three occasions on the telephone. We had to fill in a form to make a booking. When she put us in the room, we found out that everything was not clean and the beds were undone.... (read more)

My wife and I booked a nights stay in June 2010 as we had an early flight.A warm welcome was given by a young lady and we were shown to a very pleasant clean room. The problem occurred when the owner decided to host a party within 35 feet of our room for a number of his friends, and we were bombarded with loud head banging music until 3.a.m, only ending when my wife complained. NEVER AGAIN. Ruined the start of our holiday.

I telephoned Edward the owner three times before our holiday over a duration of about two months to confirm our booking- I needed to be sure that we would have suitable rooms for our family of five- we have three children and needed adjoining rooms. On each occasion Edward confirmed that the booking was in order but to phone him when we were one hour away from Bristol to ensure he would be there.

When we arrived there was no person to be seen... (read more)

Cons
Being close to Bristol Airport means it's some way out of town - a bus ride or car parking charges to get into centre
Can be noisy - being close to Bristol Airport means people leave very early - also clientel includes early start builders & the walls / floor are not soundproofed so likely you will be woken up

So glad to read your comment, I experienced exactly the same!!! And I was grateful too that my company was paying for it! Anyway.
More things I need to clarify too:
They only take cash and not VAT reg.
The girl who was greeting me was so rude and arrogant. And last thing I still don't get: you can have your breakie in the morning around a table for 8 people, which is somehow harsh as the kitchen is tiny, but OK. It is supposed to be a friendly way to do things. The main thing is that you have to eat with the lady who is greeting you and the cleaner. No offense, but this is the first time I am experiencing this. That was the first morning. The second morning the cleaner was standing right beside us (there was a nice Italian couple there) looking at us as we were eating and repeating "oh, I am so tired today". Whatever.
I have to say I've always been in friendly guesthouses and B&Bs in the UK and Eire, but seriously, I don't think everybody can do whatever he/she wants in a place hosting people.
For me this farmehouse looks like a bordel as we call it in French rather than anything else.
Horrible feeling after the stay.
Having booked a double room with ensuite, from my experience of staying in farmhouse accomodation for a number of years and in different parts of the UK, the room provided was not to the standard I expected. Brdgwater Farm is undergoing renovation. All 3 rooms were unfinished. Unclean bathroom, entrance, entry had to be made by stepping over builder's material.
