I have a 412D converted into a tourist luxury midi-coach AC,DvD.PA systems and all. On 428,000ks, I got fed-up with the diesel engine rebuild cost (ZAR90,000.00 plus)so I bought a low mileage Lexus V8 vvti motor and auto box unit and plonked this with Lexus management system, into the Lwb Sprinter with a few alterations to firewall. She now runs so smooth and has so much power 216Kw and 410Nm that I drive light foot. Brake pedal pressure also much lighter to use. Unleaded petrol useage is... (read more)

I've got a 312d 2.9 converted into a 4 berth Motor home with shower, toilet etc with 300k & spent a lot of time researching base vehicles before buying. This will accelerate up hill fully laden while towing a tow car! The torque is immense and is truly very comfortable. One thing to watch out for (if you keep it near trees) is the leaves clog the drain holes either side under bonnet, the result is the battery tray fills with water & drips down onto the ECU giving a myriad of running problems... Bought the sprinter mini bus with 1800 miles on the clock from merc. dealer. Had 4 mayor faults which with an wheelchair bound wife were trouble. front wheels badly aligned tearing the edges of the tyre. starter motor cable nut so loose it had fallen off.Often would not start! rubber on rear damper us. After 2 years out of warranty ( should I have gone for a Toyota? )rear diff. leaked oil.
I expected the same reliability as with our old 300TD.

The Mercedes Sprinter 412d is the daddy off the road, I've had mine since new 10 years ago, I've been up an down britain with it, without any problems what so ever. regulary maintaned regardless. 491,000 miles on clock at moment. When it comes to commercial vans mercs are the way forward. Rest of compettitors like transit etc: can't touch them with their cheap build quality. All round 5 star build quality. Best van money can buy simple as that. (read more)

Since new the Mercedes Benz Sprinter has been in the workshop many times for repairs and twice for embedded rust which showed in the first year. We have had customers push start it, we have towed start it and lately we use ether to get it started. Just out of warranty the glowplug heater system went us and no3 glowplug was threadbound and the head had to come off. it was then found no1 injector could not be removed so a new head was ordered at $7500 but there was none available in australia. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter 312D TURBO is a superb all round van. I have had mine for nearly 10 months now. It had 158,000 on it in May 2006 when bought and now has 195,000 on it. One bit of advice though! If your van has a few miles on it (200,000+) steer clear of the "recommended" 10w40 oils - It is too thin and your engine will not like it!
Put a decent 15w40 semi-synthetic oil (I use Comma Euro Diesel 15w40 Semi Synthetic) in it and it will give you another 200,000 without any problems...

This Mercedes Benz Sprinter 312D TURBO van is now out of date, there are no air bags the radio still has a cassette player, no leg room and deck chairs for seats.
There is limited space in the back compared to the opposition.
plus points are that it is very quick as my licence shows and it comes with a good warranty.

This Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 312D Turbo van is the ABSOLUTE BEST van available on the market. HANDS DOWN! It'll beat your old Transits any day, for anything. The power in it is outstanding, never before have had so much wheel spin in a van. It'll beat ANY XR2i Fiesta or Nova off the mark no matter what weather it is, i also have a Pug 205 Dimma 1.9 and it gives that a good run for its money (read more)

The sprinter really is mint van. It does also give some boy racers a run for their money. On top of that the turbo version gives out a whoosh from the dump valve which many boy racers like. In fact i believe that the sprinter should be reviewed in the boy racer section.

HI,
<br>I have a Sprinter (416 CDI) new version, its got 156 Break Horse Power(BHP), its the bee's Knees!!....I pull up at a set of traffic lights, rev up my engine...the people in their cars think hes only got a van, how fast can he go,.....but they dont realise the power of the SPRINTER!!!!!

Sure it'll beat a transit handsdown, but after changing from a transit to a sprinter 313cdi I wish i still had the transit. The specification is rubbish on a pound for pound basis, I had a cd player fitted before delivery, great cd player but the tiny 3" speakers are useless, almost every van on the road has blind spot mirrors intergrated into the wing mirrors, not the sprinter, if like me you asked for blind spot mirrors, mercedes fit them on top of the existing mirrors, not only do they look rediculous you can only see 25% of the mirror. I could go on and talk about the arm rest, airbag, remote central locking etc that come as standard on a transit, forgot to mention the lorry like angle of the steering wheel. But hey it's quick and I can wear my baseball cap backwards and rev it at the lights with drum and base music farting on the speakers. sorry but give me a transit

I have a 2003 Sprinter 313CDI, ive fitted an IAT sensor resistor and a universal induction kit with a cold are feed, it feels quicker but even better the whoosh from the turbo (because of the filter)sounds fantastic and turns heads from miles in front

When the transit with its noisy below standard engine has packed up, and the bodywork and chassis rusted away, you can sit in it and listen to the radio/CD system and look in the great mirrors and see people sneaking up behind you. In the meantime the Sprinter will still be running with half a million miles on the clock, and a chassis that is the envy of all other manufacturers. Lets face it, if you want value for money and reliability above all else, anyone with a bit of savvy will always go for the Merc.

I found this review very helpful because... i have had the turbo diesel transits in the past and they ran on semi it worked well i have just got a 312 what a machine A+++++++ all these years ive missed out of real power ive just drove it back from scotland and used very little fuel the transit would of cost at least £50 for that type of run thank you for the oil tip
