We were generally really happy until I needed to temporarily remove a shutter for a new window to be fitted. We were told as the shutters were old (just coming to 4years old In August, I would like to add), and the independent engineer that fitted them had stopped working for the company. Having just witnessed a Hillarys van drive extremely aggressively and subject a good law abiding driver to harassment and dangerous driving, and then drive through a residential 30 mph zone at more than 50mph and accelerating... I would never use them. Anyone who would behave like that in a clearly marked company vehicle I would not trust in my home nor would I trust their integrity as a business. (read more)

The advisor was polite, helpful and did not in any way sway my decision which I was most impressed with as what worried me the most when looking at booking an appointment was the advisor being a sales guy.....I hate them. We asked for a salesman to call after seeing an advertisement in the local newspaper. We were given a day and a time slot between 12-3, we waited until 3.30 and the rang Hillary's to be told the appointment was cancelled, no phone call to tell us he would not be coming and the were asked if we wanted to make another appointment! Telephoned Hillary's last week to book an appointment. With this completed we expected the representative on Tuesday 9th April between 9.00am and 12 noon. By 12.15pm nobody had arrived so we delayed our lunch in expectation. By 12.45pm still nothing so we had lunch hoping they wouldn't turn up in the middle of it. Fat chance of that! We bought wooden venetian blinds for our conservatory in 2011,just about OK, althugh we did have some issues with not getting messages about delay in delivery etc. The service we received from the fitter was good and he was very helpful, our experience since then with customer care and after sales service is dreadful. I had a similar problem in that our dog wrecked 6 slats in our 8 month old blind that I paid a considerable amount for.!! To be fair to Hillarys, I rang their after sales department who arranged a service call for the following day - the guy's just visited & quoted me £30 to replace all the slats & he can do the job in situ without removing the blind.

Latest on this saga is, fitter eventually showed up one week after planned date, brought wrong tools and one of the shutter panels was broken. Proceeded to fit shutters leaving significant unsightly gaps between frame and wall. Fitter assured me he old be back in five days to complete job and would replace broken panel at same time. Surprise, surprise no show from fitter, and after talking with customer services it appears replacement panel would take 4 - 6 weeks to order by air freight and 10 - 12 weeks by normal route. Cancelled order and asked for shutters to be removed from my property and deposit refunded. Today's date is 23 April. PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM HILLARYS.

But I felt under a lot of pressure as he wanted me to pick fabrics etc there and then without explaining that before the visit...and there were LOADS!! Blind fell out shortly after use. Fixings had snapped. Tried to phone Hilary's after care but you have to pay 17p per minute for the privilege and was on hold for ages so gave up. This was the most terrible experience. It looks like hillarys hire the angriest chavs I have ever seen. The man who came to my house with blinds scratched the walls and tried to break our wooden floors throwing very heavy bags around so that all my house was shaking (!!). The first person who came to measure up was a few hours late as went to completely the wrong village despite being told twice where to go, outrageous price quoted for one blind, then was slightly reduced. I ordered some blind, they were due to go in once some building work was completed. My builders wife died and the building work got put on hold. Then Hillarys turned nasty. They demanded full payment in advance (I'd paid 50% deposit). Not sure why all the positive reviews appear at beginning. I would never, repeat never use Hillarys again. Unreliable, shoddy work and dishonest.
