I thought I had found the natural successor the 'Money'. I ran the programme for a full year and persisted in trying to use all its facilities. In the end I gave up because I still could not enter my stocks and shares and the help/advice was really no help. My conclusion is that this is a clever piece of kit written by accountants for accountants but that is not me!

I did have Quicken but it is not compatible with Windows 7 so I tried Bank Tree 2.0 and it drives me mad. It is unsophisticated and the 'schedules' facility is particularly annoying. Past reconciled transactions are not protected and if you change a direct debit without thoroughly understanding the system that direct debit is projected backwards and can completely upset the whole account. I have just spent 3 days trying to sort out my 2 accounts and I am tearing my hair out. When reconciling accounts you are not able to put in a final balance from your bank statement so can not be sure that the Bank Tree balance equals your bank statement's.

Have you tried contacting the support team ?
Amending a scheduled item would protect the existing reconciled entries - however if you deleted the schedule item and then created a new one it would obviously create the schedule transactions from the start date of the schedule item, which would affect historical entries.

Firstly it was looking great, I tried the trial, but then upgraded due to the trial limitations. From this point onwards, it went down hill. The Scheduled transactions do not work properly, and the reporting is not as broad as I had hoped. Since it didn't seem to work properly, I asked for a refund; They blindly refused. I found this software after seeing it on which.co.uk, although I wish I hadn't. Verdict: Avoid at all costs...

The support team were not given sufficient information to address the problem the user was having. If you make an unfounded claim the software does not work but can not provide any information about what the problem is, hardly the fault of the support team.

Update from customer
"Hello,
I just wanted to apologise for the dispute. After getting my PC back from being repaired, they said that my motherboard was faulty and it was just a coincidence that my PC died whilst un-installing your software. I've now re-installed it to give it another chance and it seems to be working well. The scheduled payments seem to behave not as expected, but if I just add the transactions manually it seems to work fine!
Kind Regards"
Thanks for the update

This doesn't seem to be a bad program, but I did not get any further than trying to copy across my MS Money data.
Quite simply the developers should have provided an MS Money data import facility, which would have encouraged the numerous people who have been let down by Microsoft.
But they haven't so it is easier to continue to use my old MS Money software and update my portfolio prices manually.

It seems a bit unfair to blame the BankTree developers for not being able to import Ms Money data using the import routine. The import routine will import QIF and OFX file formats. Ms Money (MNY) formats can not be supported as is mentioned on the banktree.co.uk website as Microsoft own the intelectual property rights to their own data format - and will not release this this to anyone, unless they are mega rich like Inuit!

With the demise of Microsoft Money (MM) I was looking for a replacement. I had high expectations when I downloaded BankTree but disappointed on the limited functionality and well as the quality and flexibility of the charts. There is a big difference if you are used to MM. I also had a few questions regarding categories. It seemed strange that a parent category (e.g Household) doesn't total all the sub-categories (e.g Household Maintenance)if you just want a summary of all your expenditure. The support to my questions on this area was bordering on arrogant and impolite. Having downloaded the full version (as the trial version didn't work well with the imported QIF file), they refused to give a refund even though I'd only purchased it 6 days earlier. It's obviously a very small company so probably suitable if you just want a glorified spreadsheet with a few charts.

BankTree claim to respond to requests for product support within 24 hours. At the time I wanted help, it was non existent. Their phone was on auto answer and did not have a facility for voice mail so I couldn ' t leave a message. The impression I am left with is that the operation may be run by a person or persons lacking in skills required to run a business offering a fast and efficient service. Had I discovered this before purchasing the software programme, which is a good one, I would have saved myself £26.00. In the event I was not satisfied that the BankTree people could meet my support needs so I am now looking elsewhere. '

Please view the online tutorial on how to use investments in v3.0 of the software.
Obtaining security prices for your selected shares is dependant on mainly two factors.
1) The availability of the information on the external data feed website you have selected - this may or may not populate the security.
2) The use of firewalls and antivirus software that prevents our software from connecting to the website to obtain the price information - an aggressive firewall will block our software (specially Norton)
Neither of these problems are related to our software.
