Don't buy this phone. DO NOT.
This phone advertises cool things such as handwriting texts .etc. Really it lacks the basics. The only thing I like about it is the camera.
Otherwise it is a disaster. Touch screen is awful - I have to calibrate it basically every day. They offer you 4 different ways to write a text, and yet I have to use an alpha numeric keypad (like a normal phone). The others take ages. The light flashes telling me I have a missed call/message when I don't.

The stylus on this phone falls out after being used a dozen times, because of wear to the internal clip. The stylus hole is on the bottom edge of the phone, so the stylus then falls out. Since the wear is to the phone's innards rather than the stylus, buying a new stylus won't help.
The wrist strap is anchored to a concealed hook inside the phone. The hook is very weak, meaning that the slightest stress leaves you with a broken hook and intact wrist strap.

I had my nokia 5800 XpressMusic for six months when out of the blue my screen would start to go blurry every time I unlocked my phone. I asked around and found other people who have experienced the same problem with this phone, it not something you would expect to happen with a modern phone. The 5800 does have some good qualities though, like an excellent music player downside is when you purchase songs from nokia ovi store you cannot use them as your ringtones, why I have no idea. Had a 5800 for 15 months with no problems. Great for music, and camera and video camera great as well. Now have the X6 but my partner is using the same 5800 with no problem. A great phone that is still better now than many others event though it has been around a while. (read more)

The nokia 5800 express music is a great phone for people who will use it for music or watching video. I say this because its not a great phone to get a long with. It looks very stylish but feel really cheap. There have been some cases were people lose there stylus due to poor plastic quality. The system its self is really buggy. I can honestly say this is the worst piece of junk I have ever had the misfortune to own as a phone. Within a couple of months of ownership the screen would go fuzzy to the point that eventually the screen disappeared. I would have to lightly press the off switch and the side button to get it to re appear before eventually losing it permanently. I binned it and bought a £10 phone from Tescos to last me until my contract allowed me a new upgrade. (read more)

Now coming to end of 18 month contract. This has been the most unreliable phone I've ever owned. The software often crashes especially after using the navigation system. So much so that I've had to take the battery out & leave it for a while after 8-10 attempts to get the phone to start up again. If you've got loads of names in contact list the touch screen is either too responsive or not responsive enough and takes ages to retrieve the contact. There are lots of features to this phone but... Marginal enjoyment from this one. The touch display was faulty out of the box and therefore rendered the phone useless when needing the on screen dialer to navigate through caller menu's.
Nokia also declined to point out that the once FREE GPS mapping and voice directions from Route66 had been replaced with a £6 per month offering from Nokia.
Why anyone would want to pay £6 for what is mostly available elsewhere for free I have no idea.
Let's hope that Nokia learn a hard lesson from this...

Very good phone. I have had the 5800 for about 5 months and it has proved to be very reliable, has a good battery life and easy to use. I upgraded from a Nokia N70 which I had had for over two years and I just wanted to update. The camera is very good and the external speakers are amazing for a phone like this. Yeah I'd go with that, the camera is good but struggles in a weak lightsource and pushing the ISO up only goes some way towards addressing it - my big problem is I keep sticking fingerprints over the lens but that is my fault!

<br/>I don't rate Ovi as much as the standard Nokia PC suite, which is a really nice piece of kit. I know to some extent they serve different purposes but I like the control the old PC suite gives you.

I am a year into my 18 month contract with my 5800 on Vodafone, so feel I can speak with some authority. The phone has proved to be very reliable, with excellent battery life (typically 4-5 days between charges in light use, 2 days when the mp3 player/wireless is hammered). Bluetooth and wifi have excellent range and the standard apps are not bad, although I have added the Opera mobile beta web browser, iPlayer and a few other bits and pieces. Easy to use as with most Nokia's. The touch screen is easy to use and very accurate. The camera function gives good quality sharp images unlike the fuzzy blurred results from most other phones.

I found this review not helpful because...
<br/>it's too short to be believable. It reads like someone at Nokia trying to 'up the stats' for this phone. Maybe they have a machine that leaves comments like this wherever it can, in the hopes that the general awfulness of Ovi Store can be hidden from the world.

Hey i have this nokia 5800 and i think it is alright if you just like music and the touch screen way. this phone does needs working on because it sometimes frezzes, and it becomes frustrating after awhile, the nokia interface is good if you like the symbian format but is a bit too dull. this phone needs better internet web browsing and needs to improve on the double tap you have to do in the menu, is annoying when you are on the go. the phone is a bit to large but i can not complain all up... had this phone for a couple a weeks. it is a decent multimedia device, camera is OK but far from brilliant, really good for music. Very strong side of this mobile is the best predictive T9 texting i ever had in my life and good clarity when it comes to calls. handles well even though is not a small phone.
wi-fi and bluetooth are simply great, UI is somewhat complicated overall, so if you are looking for easy-to-manage handset avoid this model by all means.

I think this is one of the best mobile phone release, Nokia ever made for quite some time now. The sleek design and touch screen features are good. Back light is also good enough for me.
I don't like its display while against sunlight (poor legibility). Camera is also sub par in quality. But it looks compact and has many features too. I haven't tried the OVI store for my 5800 xpress though. But I really enjoy its excellent music sounds

..... I'm downgrading my review after a few months of use. It has now been back for repair twice, once for the common speaker issue and now for a cracked LCD screen. A Warning to all - NO DAMAGE TO LCD SCREENS IS COVERED BY WARRANTY. I just got a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic a couple of days ago, without use, and today it fell from my hand a meter to the floor, so I had to dedicate to test everything. I am a Windows Mobile user for some time, and must say, that this one will make me change. I was very pleased to see Nokia bring out a touch screen phone, as despite being a huge Mac fan, I am a big texter & like to use the Nokia predicitive text feature. I am on my third handset which has just been returned to Nokia for repair. The first one had the screen replaced. On return stopped recognising the sim card. Switched on and off,it would recognise the sim card and would work for any period between 10 minutes and 10 hours before showing the same fault. This handset was replaced with another which did the same thing and then with another which did the same thing. Got a new sim from Orange but this made no difference despite the fact that the... DON'T GET IT!!!
I had to take my nokia 5800 back two times and it is now currenty being repaired under my own costs. I got it on a good contract but after a month of having it, the phone wouldn't charge and i was given a brand new phone. Then about two months after getting the NEW one the LSD screen cracked. This was classed as "accidental damage" and i was told that i had probably put to much pressure on the screen. IT'S A TOUCH SCREEN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! I'm now using an old motorola...

On sheer value for money I love this Nokia 5800 Tube Xpress Music. I haven't attempted installing any seperate apps so can't comment on that.
Main requirement for me was a phone that had a half decent camera, an FM radio and an MP3 player, for which this phone ticks all the boxes where previous phones haven't. 2 months in, I'm not bored with it yet and no problems.
Bad points are all fairly minor niggles, but enough to deduct a point or 2.

The Nokia 5800 Tube Xpress Music is a pretty decent all round phone and MP3 player.
I wanted to do away with having to charge 2 items, both a phone and an MP3 player so I got hold of one of these on Orange's Dolphin Pay Monthly tariff and have not looked back.
There may be better out there with the Tocco maybe but I'm in no need to look for a better phone as this one does the job pretty well indeed.
The only criticism is that I bought my own earphones to use and when you plug them in each time...

I had to return my 5800, 4 times!!! 2 days after getting it as people couldnt hear me when making/receiving calls if was in loudspeaker. I've had the replacement for 1 week and that have to exchange it again for the same problem, I had thought the 1st one being faulty was bad luck, but for the 2nd one to be again faulty it was incredible so I had a 3rd one which I have once again to returned as I only get 70% of the phone calls ! and the loudspeaker still breaking off!!! 1. This is the best designed phone adhering to the nickname - XpressMusic. Nothing overdone; the phone is provided with an optimal sized 3.2" screen with a true 16:9 aspect ratio. The phone display is 640x360 pixels which makes a proper HD feel on phone.

The Nokia 5800 is a good overall phone, easy to use, texting is as easy as any touch screen is. Easy to navigate hrough the screens, great music, games so so. Apps not the best but for price range of phone pretty good.
