    Good Points: Simple layout. Clear Recommendations


    Bad Points: Performance of recommendations reviewed were generally poor . Magazine focus limited to the UK investment market.


    General comments: I created a virtual account on Shares Magazine to assess the performance of some their recommendations, including stops and targets. I also included one of my own investment choices for comparison purposes, but plan to add more. To date non of their recommendations have approached their target, but 3 of the stops have been triggered.

    Their worst recommendation was a buy for ITV, which plummeted and hit its stop within 4 days of opening the investment. The price at the time of the recommendation was 26.25p in their 26 Feb 09 issue. By the 9th March ITV had closed at 17.5p or 33% down!

    My own investment choice of Caterpillar, bought at a price of $23.23, is currently up at $26.51 (+14%). Unfortunately, this isn't enough to offset my overall account loss of 9%.

    Their best recommendation to date has been Serco Group, which is currently only down by 0.5%.
