Good Points: The author and her husband spent twenty four years sailing round the world, and the book gives a flavour of what that feels like. It's not all sailing, though. The author writes about places and people, for example in the Pacific, only accessible by yacht. There is plenty of useful info for others intending to sail off into the blue yonder.

Bad Points: The book covers the first 7 years, so you'd have to read all three books to cover the circumnavigtion. (The second book, Red Sea Peril tells the story of their imprisonment in Eritrea). There is a lot of detail to wade through

General comments: Shirley Billing, Seize The Day - In 1983, Shirley Billing and her husband, Peter, left London for a three year circumnavigation of the world, in their yacht Clypeus. This wasn't a fancy race sponsored by dot.com companies, but a voyage relying completely on the Billings' own resources. Last summer and a host of adventures later, the couple arrived back in Poole Harbour. This book deals with the first seven years of the trip, when they sailed from the UK to Singapore in a boat 'smaller than our previous bathrooms.' It's a fascinating account of how much world there is to discover out there, if you can only 'seize the day.'
