We used to love this place. It's a beautiful old pub in a gorgeous village, which served fabulous food with charm & finesse. The building's still nice but the current managers (July 2012) are ill-tempered bullies providing substandard food extremely slowly. Our starters and main courses each took over half an hour to arrive. The roast beef was full of gristle. We remarked on the slow service, at which the manageress went into an astonishing rant and blamed us! There is no mobile signal in... (read more)

Such a memorable small business! I'd been apprehensive that on the Saturday night it will be crowded and thus less than comfortable, yet it wasn't when I went, I really had the delight of being allowed to look into it myself and speak in comfort with my friends. The wine menu was intriguing and the bar personnel particularly well-informed and very helpful. I can't wait to get back there and check out more food or do a wine sampling. (read more)

I have eaten at this establishment many times. It is more a gastro pub than a restaurant with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The food always makes me go “wow,” which speaks for itself. The menu is a mix of pub grub and modern al carte so there is something for all tastes. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for good food in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Firstly I would endorse review of 11/10/10.The Bell has certainly not regained the ambience or quality of food pre-Feb.2010
We booked a table for an evening meal in the restaurant,on arrival this had not been transferred from a note a diary on to the main table list for that evening.
Having driven 25miles for this 'special' evening we stayed and were found a table in a draughty unprepared back bar. Apologise were less that adequate as was the food, which did not match up to description on...

10th october 2010 was an occation that my self & my wife had lunch at the bell.I dont often make public comments, but on reading the report by"HMM" I felt my lunch should be noted.1st class roast sirloin of beef needs a covering of fat,to teaderise, keep the meat moist & make 'proper gravy'& the fat can be cut off if desired. As for peeling paint you tell me when, this summer(ha ha)a out side revamp has been possable from june!! as for fag ends out side,Iwould rather them outside not near my... (read more)

Hm!
All of you who have praised this place to the skies since its change of ownership in June must be very easily pleased. We went to the Bell several times when it was run by a French chap - excellent food served in pleasant surroundings. We didn't, by sheer good luck, go there after it was sold in February 2010 and when, by all accounts, it nose dived.
It isn't much better now, despite a further change of ownership in June 2010. What is on offer is over priced pub grub. If the present...

Thanks to another change of hands, The Bell is up and running as a proper restaurant/pub once again. Delcious, filling food and good natured, friendly service as well as a greatly improved atmostphere mean we'll definitely be going back.
There were several children eating in the restaurant, a few drinkers outside and lots of diners eating at the tables around the bar. Definitely a step up from the previous landlord.

I used to eat there regularly and recommended it to friends but since it has changed hands it is a must avoid. Their parfait used to brilliant, home made and full of taste. The one I had recently was a slice of something pink, no taste and with a tired salad. The fish and chips, a firm favourite of mine looked fine. However, the chips were soggy and the batter greasy. Did not bother with a desert. The place is souless now and the cooking is poor pub quality. Not surprisingly the place... (read more)

The recent change in management in Feb 2010 has seen a sad and disasterous collapse of quality and service.
The new manager from Weobley seems to have alienated and lost all the good will of the old manager in a disasterous manner. This pub should be avoided at all costs.

Myself and my wife wnt to the Bell last week, We thought although the food was nice there was not enough of it and not enough sauce on both our main dishes my wife had duck and I had the Pousin. We had three courses, pre dinner drinks and a good bottle of wine and in total including a 10% tip came to over £120. We enjoyed the evening but feel the price is a little steep especialy the drinks. We visit Ludlow about four times a year and would never miss a visit to The Bell, the quality of the food is outstanding, they keep a seasonal menu, locally sourced. I never want the meal to end every mouthful is just so delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Courses always arrive with just the right length of time between. In short I just can't fault it. £78 for two starters two mains a shared cheeseboard (pear chutney was georgeous) a bottle of wine and a couple of rounds... (read more)

Good value, quality ingredients. Better value than some of the pubs around the area, and relaxed. Good attentive service. Excellent beer and quality coffee. Lovely garden in the summer. They often use fresh ingredients from the garden and you can tell the difference. Dogs are also welcomed. The Bell Inn, Yarpole is an excellent and pretty country pub. (read more)

I felt the food was well over priced for what I got. Roast potatoes deep fried
beef I swear was rib of beef
summer pudding was apparently made with fruit of forest mix not fresh summer berries
cheese should be at room temperature
Overall, I think The Bell Inn needs a lift on the food
gravy should have been offered

The Bell Inn is a gastropub with the typical Herefordshire oak beams and rural accessories - cider press, cornmill etc in the dining room. The atmosphere seemed a little oppressive and unrelieved as a result. From the Summer Menu my wife had a really terrific prawn cocktail and I chose an excellent guinea fowl and foie gras terrine. Our mains were pretty straightforward - a fish pie and battered haddock and chips both of which did what is says on the tin and a great deal more besides.... (read more)

Couldn't agree more. They are cynically exploiting The Bell's previous fantastic reputation, rudely providing substandard service with no consideration for their customers. Sorry your special evening was marred by these incompetent bullies. Our birthday lunch was, too. Some of our party had travelled from Surrey for the occasion!
