I booked a walking tour along Hadrian's Wall with Contours Walking Holidays for my wife, myself and our two daughters aged 9 and 13. We ALL loved it. The scenery was varied and the Roman remains are so very atmospheric. All along the Wall we felt that we really were walking in the footsteps of the Roman Legionnaires. The forts and museums are very interesting - our children loved exploring all of them.

We thought the tour price was very good - it was cheaper than any of their competitors and we were delighted to receive a group discount of 7.5 off price of the tour for our family.

The accommodations on the holiday were excellent, the holiday information comprehensive and the arrangements for transporting our luggage faultless.

Thank you Contours Walking Holidays. We are already planning our holiday for 2010!

This was my first trip organized through Contours, although I have done several other independent walking holidays.

I cannot recommend highly enough inn to inn walking in England. On this trip, we walked about half of Hadrian's Wall path and the Dales Way. Both had outstanding scenery, and, to the credit of Contours, the inns arranged were comfortable and hospitable.

    Our two biggest complaints:

    1) Originally, we were to walk the Lake District. Contours advertises inn to inn walking. On their ...

The Coast to Coast Walk crosses the North of England from St Bees on the west coast to Robin Hoods Bay on the east coast through the National Parks of the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. This famous trail is easily one of the top 20 worldwide. The scenery is outstanding and the hiking is challenging but immensely rewarding. It is easily the best trail I have ever hiked. I booked through Contours Walking Holidays as I have on many occasions previously. As on previous occ ...

Truly outstanding walk along the Northumberland Coast Path - stunning sandy beaches, fantastic castles, abundant birdlife (don't miss the boat trip to the Farne Islands to watch the puffins), great accommodation, wonderful pubs and some brilliant seafood. Everything was perfect - weather, the B&Bs and the luggage transfer. Brilliant organisation by Contours.

Great walk in the Cotswolds with our dog Buster. Distances about right. Paths good. Scenery lovely, B&Bs great, pubs welcoming, Contours Walking Holidays made the route easy to follow. Luggage transfer worked perfectly. So much better than carrying our own kit in big rucksacs.

Congratulations to Contours for making my walk along the West Highland Way so memorable. Without exception the B&Bs were spotlessly clean and comfortable and the owners friendly and helpful. My luggage moved along the trail without a hitch. The guidebook was easy to follow. The tour pack was packed with useful information.I recommend the West Highland Way to everyone I meet. It is easily the most beautiful walk in Scotland. The scenery is outstanding!!! It was nice to meet fellow walkers from al ...

Just returned from a short break in the Lake District with Contours Walking Holidays. Contours were amazing. The route was exceptional, scenery fantastic, hotels wonderful and luggage transfer worked perfectly as usual. Sadly the weather was very variable - sun, snow, blue skies and then at the end of the tour - blizzards. Contours were amazing. Due to the weather the bus to get back to my car were cancelled, leaving me stranded. I rang up Contours to ask for help in getting back - expecting t ...

Had good luck with Contours Walking Holidays for a couple of walks but the last was almost a a disaster, saved by the landlady of a B&B who knew what to do. The B&B for the following night had never heard of us when we called to give them our arrival time, and our current landlady found us an alternate in the next stop en route. Seems that Contours had changed our B&B listed in the provided itinerary, and had simply neglected to tell us. So we were stuck till we could arrange a stay for fhe fol ...

Went to George Fisher in Keswick to buy a new pair of boots. Walked out with new boots, socks, gaiters and a really lovely fleece. Also had a great meal in the cafe (the Cumbrian Rarebit is fantastic).

To escape the gloom and doom of 'credit crunch Britain' we booked on the North Lakes Short Break just after the New Year. Designed by Contours, this 4 night inn-to-inn tour starts at Keswick on the shores of Derwentwater and visits the charming village of Rosthwaite in the beautiful Borrowdale valley, the romantic hamlet of Buttermere and the Newlands Valley (truly idyllic and completely off the beaten track) before returning to Keswick. The route was well thought-out with the option of walkin ...

I have taken independent walking holidays in Britain with several companies so far and Contours has easily been the best. Their website is informative and easy to use, the staff are very knowledgeable, the tour information is comprehensive, the accommodation provided excellent and the baggage transfer service worked perfectly.

We combined two sections of the Coast Path - Cornwall's Atlantic Coast North and Cornwall's Atlantic Coast South and we fully intend to continue our adventure with "Contours" by walking around Land's End and the Lizard in the Spring of 2009 - we cannot wait!!

My husband and I returned from our trip with the best of memories. Everything went exactly to plan, thanks to Contours. The bags were delivered properly each time, each guest house was wonderful and unique and hosted by the nicest people, and the Cleveland Way is a wonderful walk. The guidebook and maps provided were excellent and allowed us to relax and enjoy, knowing that getting lost or confused would not happen. We took over 250 photos, had endless laughs, and no blisters or injuries. I have ...

Congratulations to Contours - excellent organisation of maps, booklet, checklist for preparation, accommodation, baggage transfers and in tailor - making our particular walk. All was thorough correct and easy to follow. Could do with a glossary of terms for American's, however no bad points.

We walked Hadrian's Wall Path in spring (April 2008). Contours arranged places to stay and luggage transfer. It was perfect for us because of the flexibility offered; we could take seven, eight or nine nights and start on any day we wanted. Contours sent an official guidebook and a map of the route along with things to take. We stayed in B&B's, farms and small inns. We made this a coast to coast walk by dropping off our luggage at the first hotel and taking a metro to Tynemouth walked back t ...

Contours Walking Holidays tour of Hadrian's Wall was well organised (like all of the tours we have been on (Cotswold Round, West Highland Way, Dales Way, Offa's Dyke and South Downs Way), with a well though-out itinerary, good accommodations, efficient luggage transfer and satisfactory maps and guidebook. We recommend their tours to everyone we meet.

Contours provided good maps. Upon returning home, I called Contours to complain. The owner hung up on me. There are many tour companies in the UK. With almost no exception, the company houses hikers in shabby B&Bs often a mile or more from the trail head. At one stop, the company delivered our luggage to the wrong B&B and did nothing to retrieve our luggage. At the end of a long day's hike, we were forced to walk to where they had mistakenly deposited our luggage and lug it back ourselves. The p ...

The walking was fantastic and the scenery stunning but unfortunately some of the accommodation booked for us was unsatisfactory. When we complained about this the customer care from Contours was very disappointing. It seems because we are British we must put up with things and not complain!

Some of the accommodation Contours Walking Holidays booked was poor. If you have just walked 16 miles would you want to sleep in a put-u-up bed! Some accomodation booked was far from the coastal path, when there seemed to be more than adequate hotel accommodation closer. Very unsatisfactory customer care in my eyes.
