Good Points: Stable construction. Good choice of materials and finishes. Reliable two speed induction motor. Rack and pinion table tilt. Sturdy fence. Good cutting depth. Large 0.5m x 0.5m cast iron table. Good throat depth. Many "decent" safety features. Well thought out design. Made in England. Good value.
Bad Points: Nothing note worthy.
General comments: My Record Power BS350S Large Bandsaw was delivered as a self assembly flat pack unit that was quite easy to assemble following the clear instructions. I spent the entire day putting it together and going over it. There are a lot of little nice touches by Record Power that add much to the machine's operation and reliability such as; a replaceable blade brush - to keep the blade clean and prevent dust choking the drive wheels, ball race roller bearings for certain parts of the blade guides. These and other "touches" make the machine reliable and more importantly 'serviceable' as opposed to the plethora of cheap disposable machines on the market today.Looking around at the competition: Dewalt was the only other real contender, but I settled on this firstly; because of quality, and then finally, the price clinched it.I have last years model that came with a lower cupboard section, but Record Power have since refined and improved this model somewhat (www.recordpower.co.uk) touching up on some minor issues, probably putting up my rating to 9 out 10.It makes good straight cuts in softwoods and hardwoods. Blade changing is easy, especially with a tension meter inside the top wheel housing, taking the guess work out adjustment. The fence is stable, square and accurate. The machine is effortless and I have made some very desirable furniture with it, only possible because my main focus has been on the work at hand and not the shortcomings of the tool.Well done Record Power!
