Bought to see if chips tasted better than oven variety. Although slow compared with other methods of producing chips the results were excellant. However, after 20 months (a total of less than 120 uses) the lid broke near the clip for removing it for cleaning. Lid had never been dropped and had always been carefully washed and dried after each use. Reading other reviews this seems a common place for the lids to break. I have used mine three times now once with frozen and twice with real potatoes. The frozen fries were marginally better than in the oven but the real potatoes were awesome... I cooked the max 1-3/4 lbs for 45 minutes the first time I washed and let the pototoes dry for about 15 minutes the second time I let them dry about 40 minutes! I was preparing other food the first time was great the second time they were perfect and since you can only make four servings nobody eats too... (read more)

great concept , but both my daughter in law and I bought our tefals just over a year ago . Both lids broke and paddles too. Great concept mad up in cheap materials. Very expensive method of healthy eating.Tefal not at all helpful but keen to sell new parts and big prices. Tefal ? never again!!!!!!! (read more)
“Blew up after 14 months of normal use”

Bought the actifry in January 2012. Loved it cooked chips roasts etc to perfection . Then 14 months down the line it started smoking and stopped working . I did get a full refund but ill just go,back to cooking chips in the oven or going to the chippy very expensive .wish I'd read the reviews before I bought it as most of them say similar to me . I've had my actifry since I moved out almost 4 years ago and had no problems with it, it cooks chips perfectly and I've tried numerous different things in it, mostly turning out good. Last night it started making a screeching sound and smoke came out of the back of it, the next day I went straight out to buy myself a new one. personally I am very happy it has lasted as long as it has and don't feel I could do without it, well worth the £79.99 I paid for it. This is the greatest kitchen appliance ever invented. We are thoroughly enjoying this method of cooking, especially now that there are more recipes. Our only regret is that we didn't purchase the large one but we are senior citizens on a very limited budget and can't afford it at this time. It is so easy to use and clean. My only complaint is that it does take up a fair bit of storage space. (read more)

I bought the 1.5kg family model in January 2012 - It has been used successfully, three times a week since then. Two weeks before the 12 month guarantee ran out, the handle broke. A telephone call to their customer service department (0845 602 1454)and everything was sorted in an extremely polite and helpful way. New handle was delivered to the north of Scotland in three days and I fitted it myself. (2-screws). One happy customer. Can't think of anything bad to say about it - It does more... (read more)

i am so disappointed with the actifry, everything i cook in it goes to mush especially chips they all stick together, using the right amount of oil and following cooking instructions and they still dont cook properly WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT THE TEFAL IS Would certainly not recommend it to anyone . I wonder how you are to know if there is a fault doesnt explain that in the book if there are problems ??????????????????? anyone else having the same problems (read more)

I bought this based on the reviews that it cooked "REAL" chips,what a disappointment. Until...... I used crisp n dry solid veg oil (still using just 1 actifry measuring spoon full) the chips are close to but lets be honest not as good as deep fried chips. It also does sausage fantastic without any oil. I recommend experimenting a little and it might be better than you first think. (read more)

I have to order another paddle as this is the third paddle that i have used, at a cost of £16-£25 each i could of bought enough chips from the chip shop to keep me going for a year, i have decided not to buy another paddle after all and have bought a chip pan again! for when my husband wants chips, the cost alone is just silly but to be replacing paddles this often is like being slapped in the face and i think this is just plain robbery, i am sure they have designed these paddle to break... After procrastinating for a long time about buying one, I finally bit the bullet and went ahead. I read many reviews some bad and some good, so I was extremely confused about getting one. After spending a week with my parents who have one, it became clear just how good the Actifry actually is. I made French fries which were fantastic. Don't know why some people say it cooks well: we bought one and cooked the chips as per intsructions, and they came out like cardboard. The thing works by blowing hot air over the chips (you put a little oil on the chips) but it basically just dries them out. I just cleaned it up and took it straight back to the shop and got my money back! (read more)

thought this seemed a great present for a friend and it worked great for a while,looked the business then the stirring paddle snapped as many others have also(wish i knew this before i bought it)this is an obvious design fault as they have since changed the design,tefal were a nightmare to deal with despite having guarantees etc,they dragged things out,were fine until they had to send out part foc then they got all automated,not good service and i am still waiting for my replacement,will... I got one of these and I totally love it. One spoonful of oil is enough to make yummy potatoe wedges for two. It is easy to use, easy to clean (important!) and seems sturdy enough - built to last i hope! (read more)

I absolutely love the actifry, it has been a godsend on my road to losing 4 stone in the last 6 months. the food is delicious. I never need to miss out on roasties and chips, the chips taste better than deep fried. You can cook carrots and other veg's in it and they are sweet and tasty. The only criticism's I have is that it is noisy and the lid seems flimsy and you have to be very careful when closing so that you don't break the catches other than that its brill (read more)

I'm now on my 3rd actifry, not through broken, but through choice, the first i gave to my daughter the 2nd was a white one, then i got a new kitchen and decided i wanted a new black one so i still own the 2 of them. How anyone can say negative comments and bad reasons for owning one of these is beyond me. I use mine for everything not just chips, the receipes are very simple and tasty, plus there are countless hot air frying books and youtube tutorials to find new and exciting ideas. They... I bought my Tefal Actifry at Christmas thinking i would get so much use out of it having 3 hungry sons, but i find it just breaks the chips/roasters into crumbly bits and sausages & chicken etc comes out in deformed shapes!!! My first tefal actifry blew up just as the guarentee ran out but as I liked it so much I bought another. My second blew up after 4 months which was replaced. The lid then broke, now the paddle has snapped. I must admit it cooks the food very well BUT it is so unreliable. (read more)

I have had my acti fry for over 1 year. Chips are brilliant as good as chip shop chips, Roast potatoes and wedges very good, vegetables brilliant.You need to try things out for yourself i know it seems expensive but my daughter her mother inlaw and a friend of mine now have one and they love it. Chips that you buy from the supermarket that are frozen you do not add oil takes 30 mins and they are crispy and great. (read more)

We bought an actifry when thay first hit the market and at first I was really pleased as it cooked really well . Just before the year guarantee was due to expire it caught fire quite unexpectidly so I contacted the company i had bought it through and they were helpful and rep[laced it so I had a new 1 year guarantee. It was going fine and then just 2 days after the years guarantee had ended the same thing happened . I wrote constantly to Tefal re this obvious fault in the model but got... (read more)

“Lid Keeps Breaking”

I have mine for 18 months and am already on my third lid, ive discovered that when the lid gets hot the plastic simply snaps, this product should be recalled by Tefal and the design of the lids fixed before allowing any other customer to buy one, its a fantastic machine and we love using it, pity the lids are of such awful quality, don't buy until the lid issue is resolved (read more)

I bought an actifry approx 18 mths ago within 6 mth lid had cracked and non stick came off the pan i contacted Tefal who did replace it and received a new one on christmas eve 2010..... on christmas eve 2011 the paddle snapped after contacting Tefal i was informed my actifry was made in 2009 and unless i had my invoice would need to buy a new paddle approx £15 but no postage costs, i could find invoice so rang back asking if they had the details of replacment ..... yes but you do not get a... i am on my second actifry as the first over heated. If your offered an extended warranty take it,its cheap and worth it. id be lost without the actifry. the cheapest is amazon but currys is close 2nd. add plenty of flavour to your chips.If you leave the skins on they can be a little dry so add a little spice. the best thing designed for people watching their weight, it allows you to be naughty but in a good way. 100% worth every penny, easy to use if your not kitchen wise. hope this review... after watching watchdog in 2008 we bought an actifry from currys, with a 3 year insurance..... this week it went bang, 2 months before the insurance ran out.... so back to currys; original cost was £129 99...currys offered the full amount to spend on anything in the store ,but we liked the actifry so bought another one for the new price of £109,, the other £20 went towards a new 3 year insurance contract....altogether we paid £6 for this service.... gotta say well done currys (read more)

I have this for approx 3 months. I wish I had looked for reviews before I both it then I would have realised not to waste my money because the lid cracked and the catch on the lid broke. EXTREMELY dissappointed as the chips that come out of it are gorgeous. Very angry that I wasted my money on it. (read more)

Bought mine from Darty as we live in France. After some months it caught fire and smoked out my kitchen. It was warranty repaired and after another year it did the same again - this time I was watching it so pulled the plug out! The plastic fan stops and the hot air heater glows and catches fire. Any clues as to what we can do now would be appreciated as its out of warranty. Personally I think its dangerous and rarely use it. Tefal have not responded to any communications as what we can do... as a pensioner, I thought this was the best appliance since sliced bread,however, after the lid broke,and the handle came away the pan,it's back to microwave and fryingpan,contacted tefal several times,yes you guessed right,no reply.I could have gone on holiday for £160. (read more)

Take it back to the supplier, under an EU directive from 1999 which had to be enacted by all EU member states by May 2000 everthing sold in the EU has to have a 2 year guarantee and the seller is responsible for the guarantee

We used our Tefal actifry probably two or three times a month for around a year plus. Luckily enough I was beside it when a minute or two after starting some chips when there was a clank and smoke started pouring out of the motor. Goodbye actifry !!! These are a total danger I cannot believe they are allowed to sell these. (read more)

The same thing happened to me.
The Actifry was used about 30 times over a two year period.
Two weeks ago just after switching it on heavy smoke poured out of the fan/heater area followed by a bang and then the socket fuse blew.
It's now in the bin.
I would not consider buying another.

This cooks sausages better than anything else, which is what we have used it for. We found it mashed up chips, but also quite good with fried onions.
Lid broke off after 4 months so very careful washing it etc. Lid was replaced foc by Tefal so no moan there. Second lid has now broken but by putting a weight on it it stopped it popping up, but today the paddle broke cleanly off at the end whilst cooking 6 sausages!
Anyone want a broken actifry? We will not be mending it, also it is huge to...

We loved our Actifry and used it daily for 3 months, we raved about it to all our friends and family, then the lid broke, we replaced the Actify, the new one worked for a little longer then set on fire! there were flames coming from the motor at the back, I have since hear other people have had the same problem, I'm very surprised this product has not been recalled!!!! ****If you have one please DO NOT leave it inattended when cooking**** (read more)

The first actifry lasted a month when the clasp holding the lid snapped off after cooking some sausages. Tefal referred me to Amazon who were marvellous and replaced it immediately. Three months later exactly the same thing happened again. It either hates sausages or suffers from heat exhaustion. We loved the chips and everything else and it is a pity but I do not think after reading these reviews that I will risk another one. Amazon gave me a refund but I will really miss those chips.... Use the actifry only once a week to make chips and have already had to replace the lid when the catch broke up, then the "paddle" which disintegrated. Now the paddle has stopped turning. What a waste of money and Tefal are just not helpful at all. Am absolutely disgusted with the Tefal Actifry - although when it worked, it did a good job. have owned the actifry for more than a year and have bought one for my mother, my aunt and each of my brothers. we love to fry with olive oil and only -so far- fry in pans. have had none of the problems mentioned in other reviews and have regularly put it in the dishwasher. i would recommend rinsing vegetables well after they are chopped to size (particularly potatoes) and before frying them as that does alter the taste. also often use 1 spoon more than recommended but it is still way better... Just like many of the reviews here, our Actifry's lid cracked in one corner after about 10 Months and less than a dozen uses.
Today I was doing some wedges and noticed something going round with the wedges. The lid looked a little loose. You guessed it, the catch that holds the lid on had broken off.
The whole thing is now useless, its never been put in a dishwasher and has been well looked after as are all our appliances, some of which are 30 years old and still look and work as they did...

Cooks well but not built to last. My second Actifry has just expired with the motor burning out after 17 months - it's hardly overworked. My first one lasted 12 months, ending in the same way. At £150 none of my other appliances have such brief lives. (read more)

Owned ours for about 6 months. The best kitchen gadget ever bought. I used to use the old chip pan, as we cant stand frozen chips. Depending on what potatoes (baking potatoes or red roosters) are the best.These make wonderful tasty chips. Add some flavoured oil and even better. I use it most days, Lamb chops/lamb steaks / chicken legs are great, and sausages are a great success and all cooked with no oil. Cooking is even so you dont get the uncooked end bits. our actifry is only 10 months old and true to a lot of these reviews the lid started cracking after about 9 months. The right side catch is now snapped off and the left side is not far from breaking meaning we cant use it at all. i cant comment on the after sales from Tefal as i have not yet contacted them. Another example of an appliance that is not fit for purpose. Appalling really. (read more)

i bought a actifry in april 2009 it was quite good to use then it began to get stuck i had to spin the fan at the rear to make it go.then it stopped altogether i contacted tefal they said it was down to comet whom i bought it off comet said the gaurentee was out it was by one month tefal offered me one at reduced price that was dearer than ebay they did not want to know iwould not recomend any one to buy anything from tefal after sales is rubbish just like their products (read more)

Don't buy anything made by Philips. They used to be a reputable company, but over the last ten years, everything I bought made by Philips packed up in less than a year.
