“PIECE OF RUBBISH”

Written on: 25/10/2014 by MaxwellMcDowell (1 review written)

I bought this machine to replace my old deep fat fryer. What a mistake. Has it less than 6 months and despite being used less than once a week it has started to fall apart. The central spindle is worse than useless as it is clearly unsuitable for turning the paddle blade even when the machine is only quarter full.Even when it worked ,frozen chips came out as cooked mush. I would not recomnend this to anyone...now where did I put the deep fat fryer… Read Full Review

“falls to bits”

Written on: 11/09/2014 by saPowers1991 (1 review written)

I am fed up of replacing parts for the actifry which cost a fortune, had 9 months and replaced lid twice and paddle, now the top part of the nozzle has melted and broken off. Yes I can see why they have made this design at £30 a time to replace a plastic lid and nearly as much to replace the paddle, they must be making a fortune on spare parts. Looking for another brand that does the same thing and not made of cheap plastic and that doesn't fall to bits… Read Full Review

“poor construction quality”

Written on: 02/09/2014

I really enjoyed using the product untill it broke after 4 months use. the button on the lid broke right off after 4 months normal use. I called TEFAL to see if they could help me and was informed that they would not replace the top but could sell me a new one!! This after only 4 months use and for that price! I talked to the customer rep and she told me they would be happy with the bad press so here it is. I will not buy another TEFAL product as they do not seem to want to help out just sell… Read Full Review

“Bits keep breaking, not reliable.”

Written on: 18/08/2014 by Guthrieyq190 (1 review written)

After reading the hype dished out by Tefal we went ahead and bought one some time ago, it wasn't long before the catch on the lid broke which meant a new lid. Shortly after the warranty ran out it ceased working, paid £65 for it to be fixed and we have since had to purchase another two paddles. Had we been cooking rocks I could understand why it keeps breaking but the thing is used mainly for chips, hardly pushing the machine to it's limit and not cooking anything it states in the book that… Read Full Review

“very poor build quality”

Written on: 27/05/2014 by pete6768 (1 review written)

had actifry family for two years used mainly to cook oven chips which it does very well but have had to replace three handles, two paddles ,bowel and centre tube, considering it only gets used two or three times a week using less than half max weight of food its build quality for me is not fit for purpose… Read Full Review

“Don't waste your money!”

Written on: 13/01/2014 by Garven82 (1 review written)

Bought one of these recently and very quickly wished I hadn't bothered. Don't be fooled by the hype it really doesn't live up to it. Everything I have cooked in it has been a disapointment and could have been done much better using conventional cooking methods. Even the chips were a disapointment despite being this machines strong selling point. A frozen oven chip is better then what this can produce. I haven't had it long but a lot of other reviews (which I wish I had read first) say it breaks… Read Full Review

Susieq2014's Response to Garven82's Review

Written on: 26/01/2014

I got talked into buying one before Xmas, a friend extolling the virtues of fat free frying. I paid £99.99 from Currys on offer. I have only ever cooked chips in it, about 6 times now, they are very nice, much better that oven chips, but as you say, its a bit pricey for just some chips. I find, that its difficult, to think WHAT to cook in it. We dont do fish finger, chicken nuggets or similar, what about sausage, can you cook them in it? I would like a forum of recipes and tips from other users to enable me to get my moneys worth from the fryer. ps chips are red hot, coming out, but the machine is noisy!!!

I've got rid of mine now, luckily I was able to send it back. The only thing I can suggest is roasted veg, Carrots and parsnips would probably work ok. Just avoid anything soft I think.

“best kitchen purchase ive made in a long time”

Written on: 11/01/2014 by rdeller (1 review written)

I bought this in the sale, I wouldn't of paid full price, not because its not worth it but because its a lot of money, If you follow the instructions to the letter it will work. anyone who says their chips didn't cook/broke or went mushy didn't use it correctly or used potatoes that wernt for chipping. You MUST cut them the same size as much as you can ( I did mine pretty big, like from a chip shop) also you MUST rinse after cutting and dry with a clean tea towel. I put actifry on for ten… Read Full Review

“Cheap build quality”

Written on: 28/11/2013 by Hatold (1 review written)

I purchased the tefal actifry after hearing a lot about it on advertisements,i looked forward to using it when I opened the box & actifry it didn't seem very robust,it was all plastic I knew then it would not be a good product considering the price you have to pay, there not cheap! Anyway when I used it I was very dissatisfied because it broke up the food and gathered it up in one place which caused some of the food to be unevenly cooked. It also takes a very long time to cook, atleast half an… Read Full Review

“Waste of time”

Written on: 28/11/2013

I bought the tefal actifry and I was very disappointed with it, for several reasons. The first being that the build of it isn't strong enough, It's all plastic, considering the price on it you would expect some bits to be metal or more durable. I made three different types of food in there and it just takes too long, brakes the food, food gathers at one point, half the food gets cooked and half does not. Overall it just takes long … Read Full Review

“Too good to be true”

Written on: 26/11/2013 by YVDE (1 review written)

Bought an actifry couple of years ago. Initially loved it. After about 6 months little bits started dropping off. We then started buying costly items like the centre piece, plastic bits. In fact we could have bought a new one with the money we spent on parts. The concept is good but the manufacturing is rubbish, cheap plastic bits which drop off then the fryer doesn't work. For the money I feel it's not worth it. Had it been more robust I would rate it high but as it is I rate it very poor in… Read Full Review

“cooks chips, thats it”

Written on: 12/11/2013

Cooks frozen oven chips perfectly, no need for oil, but anything else, forget it. Casseroles, chilli etc dry up so you have to add liquid every few minutes. Tried to cook brown rice for a stir fry. After an hour and 2 litres of liquid the rice and other ingredients ended up a congealed mess with the rice still uncooked. To cook casseroles the actifry needs a temperature control function. How hard could that be?… Read Full Review

“A lot of money for a short-life product”

Written on: 31/10/2013 by WoodleyGirl (1 review written)

When I purchased the Actifry I was as pleased as punch. In fact, I bought a further 2 for our parents. At first the roast potatoes etc were nice and crispy. Also, you don't have to continually baste them (like a conventional oven). You avoid a messy oven to clean and it's a real healthy way to eat roast potatoes and chips. However, I would say that I have used the product about 40 times since I purchased it some 2 years ago. Gradually, the crispiness wasn't so good and now the paddle has… Read Full Review

“Expensive, but makes the best healthy chips! So worth it!”

Written on: 30/10/2013 by Benny333 (1 review written)

Purchased the 1.5 Kg Family Actifry. Positive Points = Quick, simple and easy to use, Easy to clean & washable parts are dishwasher safe, Good build quality, produces the best quality healthy chips & roast vegetables. Negative Points = Expensive. It is so versatile your not just limited to doing chips, you get a recipe book with it! My kids didn't like oven chips, but think these chips are great! On Sunday I did my roast potatoes and parsnips in it, which freed up space in the main oven. They… Read Full Review

“Broken within 50 uses!!!!”

Written on: 23/10/2013 by Stacy76 (1 review written)

Bought the family sized one and at first thought it was pretty good, evenly cooked roast veg and sausages. Some meals I could throw the lot in and it was "one pan cooking" with very little fat. Just after the 12 month warrant ran out the rim broke but was still usable as I could clip it in place and while the lid was shut it held. Another few months down the line and the handle broke off while I was dishing up which spilt all the dinner! I was not happy! I have emailed a complaint to tefal and… Read Full Review

“Forget about service in South Africa”

Written on: 30/07/2013 by Moejalifa (1 review written)

I bought an Actifry at Tafelberg Furnishers in Somerset West some 18 months ago. The paddle seemed to be "stripping" while rotating last month and I took it to Tafelberg for repairs. They responded that Tefal and Actifri are not represented in SA anymore and that there is nothing I could do. Seems like Tefal is not really anything else but just a lot of hot air in this country. Hello Phiilps. Frans… Read Full Review
