Written on: 02/10/2010 by bonzobanana (9 reviews written)

The original xbox is still a very powerful console today even in 2010. It offers superior features to the wii with much more ambitious games.

Capable of upto 1080i resolution, true 5.1 sound, 32bit colour and many other great features. Games like Doom 3, Half Life 2 and the Halo series show how powerful it is.

Nowadays it can be used as a media centre and can emulate consoles upto N64 power. You can install a different hdd and go upto 2TB in size.

Written on: 19/02/2007 by theshootist (92 reviews written)

Having previously owned a PS1 and PS2 for some time it was only after I had played the Xbox for a year that I realized how lacklustre the PS2 was.
Having managed several major US video game retail stores for many years, I was in the habit of having people ask me if I repaired Sony PS2's.
When responding no, I automatically suggested that they purchase an Xbox because the defective Xbox return rate was a fraction of PS2's.
Upon recommending the more reliable system, I pointed out that for the… Read Full Review

The Microsoft Xbox has been recently outdated by the 360, but it is still a great console to buy if you're looking for an amazing gaming system.

The internal hard drive is superior to memory cards, and it can hold more than you could ever want, including music. The Xbox's Ethernet port provides the option to link consoles together or connect to the internet for Xbox live. Games for the Xbox have superb graphics, and there are thousands to choose from.

If you can find one for a decent… Read Full Review

Written on: 03/03/2006 by Gamo 1k Master (7 reviews written)

I chose to get the Microsoft Xbox gaming system mostly because of the best in class graphics. Although the game selection was less than competitive at first, the Xbox has surpassed both the PS2 and Nintendo's attempt at a game system, the Gamecube. The Xbox Live feature is probably the best online system that has been released to date. The next generation will surely follow its predecessors footsteps and also be a great buy… Read Full Review

Omegagodly's Response to Shane11's Review

Written on: 19/01/2006

Hey shane, this is omegagodly about the psp review, this has nothing to do with the Xbox. the PSP is probably the best way to go, i would not, and have not bought the DS for many reasons, including it does not have an internet browser, the games list is not as extensive as the PSP's, it cannot play movies on its chip, you cannot download songs, movies, or pics. you cannot buy movies to play on it. it might seem to have a good 3-D virtual graphics engine, but i've played a DS for hours and the graphics are not as good as people think. it might have a lower price, but for all the negative reasons (and more) i've listed above, the DS does not compare to the PSP in no way shape or form. i would buy the PSP no doubt about it because its a much better system than the DS. the dead pixels can be unstuck by downloading a movies that repeatedly plays different flashing colors, and if played for a long a mount of time it will cause the pixels to constantly changed and unstick the stuck pixels, because on an LCD screen there is no such thing as dead pixels, just stuck pixels. you can download the movie by typing it in on google, or email me and i'll send you a copy of it for free. LCD monitors, tv's, and personal organizers use the same type of movie to unstick the pixels on their screens too. all of the mess that the other guy was talking about on my review section does not know what he's talking about because he does not own a PSP, i do. so i hope you buy a PSP, and i have no problem helping you with anything you need to know how to do on the PSP, and i will gladly help you with any questions about it, i have extesively researched, and learned everything there is to almost possibly comprehend about this beautiful portable system, and i know what im talking about.

The Microsoft XBox is a very powerful console, but it is large; the games are more expensive than PlayStation 2 games, and the choice just isn't as good. The music feature is good as you can use it as a jukebox on your television! (note: to get visualisations, press X, Y, X quickly on the track menu). It is very fast though, but it isn't portable enough to be able to take it to a mates house… Read Full Review

Written on: 23/11/2005 by grimreaper120 (9 reviews written)

Microsoft Xbox is the better out of the three games consoles of it's generation. The graphics are better and it doesn't crash as much as the Playstation 2 (from experience) it has some great games and many are exclusive to the Xbox so this means they are purpose built for it and are alot better. There aren't any games for the PS2 that are exclusive that I can think of. The Grand Theft Auto games were exclusive until they then came out on the xbox which was good. The online play is a lot quicker… Read Full Review

I owned the PS2 and the X box. I ended up trading my PS2 in for an X box. The PS2 was a good system but it didn't seem to be built solid enough for me. The PS2 slim got very hot when played which was not a good sign for me. To me, that much heat being given off is not a good thing and could lead to a problem down the road.

The X box on the other hand is a powerhouse (basically a computer in a box). Games load quicker and the graphics are actually better than that of the PS2. I truly… Read Full Review

First off, the Xbox does not have the best games. It has a few really awesome games (like Halo, Jade Empire) and the rest either suck royally or are barely acceptable. Just because your system hasn't broken down doesn't mean everyone else's will. I have already been through two Xbox's because the forst one broke down. I had it for 3 months! Anyway, Xbox's are known to break down fairly often. Lastly, the range of games is not good. If you don't like FPS's, the Xbox's range is crap. So, either way, the Xbox isn't a 10/10.

Giantelectric's Response to ImEvilStrawberry's Review

Written on: 05/11/2005

I didnt get mine when they first came out but I've had my xbox for approx... 2/half years now. Received new, honestly hand on heart: never had ANY problems with it. If any unit isn't defective from purchase and it`s used excessively (as the homes main dvd player + gaming), or if it`s left on pause for endless hours- obviously, you're going to experience trouble after 2 years!

Consider:- The Xbox was designed purely as a superlative games machine. Microsoft incorporated extra dvd features as a last minute decision due to competition / consumer demand. The cd components are still apparently much better quality than the ps2's- Even Industrial Pioneer equipment wouldnt withstand the kind of repeated usage average xbox's endure. They do develop slow loading problems & get noisy with time but thats mostly when they've been abused /overworked.

All you need for confirmation that these things are played into the ground is a quick glance at the second-hand market. Everybody`s seen consoles with stickers & bluetack over the vents, controller wires wrapped in sellotape & disks which look as though they've been sandblasted because of those stupid "restore kits". Anyone with two tartrazine fuelled children that stuff toast in the family vcr
also know what I'm saying. Despite an isolated problem with a fire hazard batch- these consoles are really durable if treated carefully - that means: Vents musnt be covered up, unit musnt be constantly moved/ unplugged & ALL chocolate fingered kids must be bound-up and made to watch from a distance of 200 yards !

For goodness sakes, they don’t breakdown easily! They have an excellent track record! Psx hold the all-time title for poor durability. If you keep them dust/knock free they last for years. Game cubes have a good track record but this is mainly because their owners put them away in the closet & refuse to look at them until granny visits.

If your Xbox is older than its warranty - installing a quieter fan, (even with a noisy motor) greatly reduces levels. Could even mod it with a few fancy lights, add a new alloy shell or chip it & install a custom HD to store full games on. Plenty of great deals online at affordable prices. You don’t have to be an expert to take them apart either- make the most of it while its still in production & look out for some great games over this christmas.

So...smart guy. Nice review. It turned your life around? That is sweet. Didn't you mention that it had the best most powerful games ever? Okay...I might agree with most powerful...But the best? Nah. Not even close. Halo, Halo 2...I can't think of anymore. And, oh yeah! PS3 will play Halo 1-3. So, what is the point in keeping an Xbox? Just wait a year and buy the PS3. That is what I am doing. And you can play PS one and PS2 games on the PS3...will the Xbox 360 play Xbox games...? Nope. Sorry to ruin your "happy life" but the Xbox is going down.

Written on: 11/05/2005

Yay! A system to end fanboy syndrone!!!!
....................................................................................................
Good job, dude. You also failed to compare value in money of the XBOX to that of a system like the PS2 or GCN. The PS2 represents the lowest value for the system itself, but you will find many games available to make up for that. It has the most games available (not counting PS one games). This is the PS2's strong point, and it does make the value for money higher than that of the XBOX.
The XBOX represents the most powerful system on the market, but it also comes packaged with numerous defects in the system and games. Your return for playing games on the BOX is the real weak point. If I could get an XBOX, Halo, and Halo 2 for fifty dollars, I would. That's the entire value of the XBOX experience. You buy game systems to play games, and if you cannot get the value for you money returned on these games, there is no justification in investing $200 when you will never invest anything else into it.
The Game Cube is only beaten by the XBOX in system strength, but it is also cheaper to buy the GCN than the XBOX. Then you factor in the games. Almost any sports game you can buy is on all three systems, and the GCN also has a very high return in the value of all other games, quite arguably better than that of the PS2. PS2 has the most, but most GCN games are the best.

There is a much better and more balanced evaluation of the three systems. I will admit to being a Nintedo fanboy, but I have evaluated my options.

Well, the verdict on this one`s "odd". I`m astounded that you know me so well samus after just reading my posts. Flattered that you managed to catagorize me as well as decide who the site is for. You got all that, from just this? Wow, you aren't psychic are you? I mean - that whole deep perception` thing you`ve got going on`s freaky. Obviously heaps of life experience to. You`re able to judge so quickly.. must be a great advantage on a review site, eh? How long did it take you to decide this time, 2 hours? - Or - "did your friend decide for you and I got the sympathy vote?" A shame things regress to childish name calling but... didn't expect anything else. Kids like you feel obligated to slate others reviews or disagree when you clearly know very little. Yet, when people do the same back on your reviews, you throw a little tantrum.

The Microsoft Xbox was just a mistake. They shouldn't have made it. There aren't very many good games for this. Practically none of their games are exculsive to the Microsoft, besides for the Halo Games. Those weren't that good anyway. You get bored of them so easily. Every X-Box I have ever had broke down real quick. Overall, this system is the worst. I say that they should get rid of the whole system all together. A few comments on this review:

Many titles from PS2 transcend to Xbox. They’re improved, containing extra levels, better graphics and more features. This is what so many PS2 gamers are bitter about. In a sense, they’re exclusives within their own right. Add the ability to download extra content via Live; you’ve got pretty innovative, unique games. "They should have never of made it”? Apart from there being other competitors who blatantly gambled investor’s money like idiots - (that`s a certain company making cartridge based software): 1.5 million units were sold in the states, alone, last quarter (Not even going into the software sales cause I suspect it’s not worth it). Business was quite sluggish at first but now, many former PS2 owners have upgraded. Xbox is actually very durable with a higher exchange/refund/repair rate on the leading competitors part; Sony. To be fair though, Sony shifted more units. There were a percentage of Xboxes recently recalled which had `fire hazard` faulty power systems. Not many customers turned down new Xbox’s or opted for exchange. Either way, with an estimated 300 decent titles available for Xbox, who needs “exclusives” anyway? What difference does it make?

There is much more to Xbox than Halo.

Nah look, I'm sure Halo was released and developed for PC first, in fact wasn’t it originally intended to be some team strategy game on pc, not fps? Again, you've mentioned the lack of exclusive titles that 'are any good' but I totally disagree. I've been stocking up on the second hand market, buying games for next to nothing & I've got to say I'm pleasantly surprised at the colossal amount of exclusives for Xbox - I haven’t even been intentionally looking for them. Look hard enough, you will find in excess of 300 (more than enough for the average gamer). I agree with what you've said about Sony, blue ray technology wont go down in price either because it’s too expensive to manufacture. The 360 looks set to conquer the market and the original Xbox will long be popular on the retro / modding market just as the dreamcast still has die hard fans.

Samusaran551's Response to McShi39's Review

Written on: 25/06/2006

First, Microsoft being better than Sony is an opinion. Just like the Xbox being rated low by McShi. Everyone is allowed an opinion. Second, I am not a Sony fanboy, my favorite company is Nintendo. Thirdly, there are MANY good and popular (and exclusive) titles on the PS2. For example: Jak & Daxter's, Ratchet & Clank's, God of War, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai's, and Ace Combat's. And Final Fantasy, which you mentioned. And by the way, Doom and Half-Life ARE NOT Xbox original games, they are ports from PC games. The only true original game Xbox has is Halo. Which is the main reason the Xbox hasn't pulled a DreamCast yet.

However, I do think the Xbox 360 might be better than the PS3, and here's why: the price. The cheapest PS3 you can buy is going to start at 500 USD. And in order to get the wireless Internet Sony was bragging about you need to buy the 600 USD PS3 package. And on top of that, the Microsoft Website (according to my friend) said the 360 will drop in price around the launch of the PS3. All Microsoft needs to do is release more hot games and they will be set. I think Sony is in for a bumpy ride if Microsoft plays their cards right.

Well why don't they put high end graphics games like HALF LIFE 2 or DOOM3 on the PS2 or Nintendo Gamecube and what special games has the PS2 got? Well there's the final fantasy series and that's it - The PS2 is also made by Sony and the Xbox by Microsoft and Microsoft is much, much better.

I think this review’s almost as bad as mine. In particular, the “bye, bye Xbox is what should happen” made me really chuckle. It’s naive yet at the same time cool. You guys (not so much on this thread) are starting to quote stuff out of official psx monthly now. It’s getting desperate when you have to resort to picking on game bugs, isn’t it? Look at yourselves now.. You sound like those shuffle boys you see in the gameshop. It’s kinda nerdy, wreaks idolization of global dominated commercialism. You know the one’s I mean -

XBOX remakes are not improved versions of PS2 games. They are just poor immitations that add glitches that are VERY present in almost every game you see. Halo 2, one of XBOX's only 2 claims to fame, has sooooooo many! In a cut scene of one player, occasionally you can see the system build the characters right in front of you. It starts with a frame, then adds colors, then details. Maybe it was only on this one BOX, but that's a glitch. XBOX is not VASTLY superior to the GCN. Granted, is has a hard drive and better graphics overall, but the best graphics I've ever seen are in Resident Evil 4 - an exclusive GCN title. In addition, MOST GCN graphics are close to XBOX quality, you just subtract flaws. The GCN is also fifty USD cheaper than the BOX, and there isn't a $50 difference in the value of these graphics.

I can get all those games on a PS2 or PC!!! My exact point. Most good games you can get on Xbox, are on other system(s). To my point: You still have given me no reason to buy an Xbox!

Weird how many times the "there aren't any good games for xbox" comment appears or the question of exclusives. Don`t folks open their eyes when they enter a games shop? It`s kinda nit-picky. Plenty of great PSX 2 ports available, improved, for Xbox. What about the whole Tom Clancy series & all the strat third person shooters available? If you`re just taking fps - It`s difficult to rival Halo but there are plenty of good ones :-
(Past & Present): Wolkfenstein, M.o.h - Frontline, Starwars Republic Commando, Area 51, Doom 3, Time splitters FP, The Unreal Championship Series Games. What do people want? Blood? As far as exclusives go - they`re mostly used to launch a console or compete with rival releases, differing it from the competitors. It doesn't determine a consoles status on the market or it`s cred. The important thing is to have a range of good titles available which are value for money. If you don't like any of these games, why even own a console? If you don`t think there`s any point buying Xbox over rival companies despite it`s subtle game improvements & tech specs, that`s a choice you`re entitled to.

If you can get the same title and almost the same game on a PS2 or GC there is no point in having an Xbox. I don't care how "great" the system itself is! And it misses out on great titles such as Devil May Cry, Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, Mario, Ace Combat, Rogue Squadron, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Pokemon, God of War, Metroid, and many others...exclusives on the PS2 or GC. And what does Xbox have to make me "want" to buy it? Halo. That is it. You may say the Xbox has downloadable features, but what good is that when you have almost no good games to go with it?

“The Xbox was Microsoft's first foray into the console...”

Written on: 21/04/2005 by TOMLEECEE (121 reviews written)

The Xbox was Microsoft's first foray into the console market, probably prompted by Sony's undoubted success in an industry it had no right to dominate. Microsoft, the biggest name in computer software since the dawn of time, must've been pretty annoyed that a company formerly renowned for the top loading video and the walkman were raking in billions of dollars off the back of a canned Snes add-on (PlayStation). After the spectacular disaster that was the Dreamcast (a console that was powered by… Read Full Review

You know, LEECEE, the Xbox is alright...the system itself that is. Xbox Live is brilliant, and the graphics are awesome. But still one thing bothers me about the Xbox: it has very little HIGH quality exclusives. What good does a fantastic game system do for ME if it only has a few good games? Halo, Halo 2...what else? FABLE?? No. Fable was garbage. And Project Gotham Racing 2...well, I cannot comment on that, I don't like many racing games anyway. For any system.

So, back to my point...why should I buy back an Xbox? I don't get the urge to play Halo or Halo 2 very often, and if I did, I have a few friends with an Xbox and Xbox Live that I could play with. The Xbox as a system (aside from the defects) is good, I will agree. But I want some good games to go with it.

It's becoming the same things back and forth. And it seems that we've agreed on some things. You like some of the GC games, and I like the Xbox Live. Truce?

The Xbox has plenty of Exclusives that are excellent - Knights of the Old Republic 1+2; Jade Empire; Top Spin; Gotham; Forza Motorsport; Doom 3; Half Life 2 (soon); Outrun 2; Unreal: Liandri Project; Painkiller; Pariah; Dead or Alive 3; NHL Rivals...plus, every other decent game on the PS2 (MGS, GTA, ISS, Toca, Mc Rae, etc). Granted, there are some games we'll never see on the Xbox, like Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Windwaker and Mario Sunshine. However, as I also own a GC, it isn't an issue for me. But for pure choice, if I had to have just one console, I'm afraid it would be the 'box every time.

On the subject of Xbox Live - I don't have it and dont intend to get it. I'm not a fan of online gaming as a) it is expensive and b) I prefer to be able to see whoever I am playing against. Would Goldeneye or Perfect Dark's multiplayer have been as good if there hadnt been 4 of you around the TV? No! So you're right about the Xbox Live, but it's nice to have the choice...

I have a Gamecube, GBA , GBA SP, PC, PS2, and Xbox. I think the X-Box is the best because the GBA/SP are going to stop selling because
A) Nintendo DS is coming out which looks amazing.
B) Gameplay is rubbish and so are the graphics.

Gamecube are having a problem releasing products now they only release games that are on all consoles eg. Fifa, Tak staff of dreams etc, they haven't released many games of their own recently so people would much rather play Fifa on a more powerful console eg… Read Full Review

Resident Evil 4, Legend of Zelda (soon), Donkey Konga, Metroid Prime 2, Baiten Kaitos, Mario Power Tennis, and Paper Mario. Not to mention all the other good ones from the past few years!!!

Besides, can you find any other game I "didn't know what I was talking about"? NO! Because I do know what I am talking about. All you managed to accomplish is showing the viewers on this website ONE single game in which I didn't play a lot of. Congrats!!

Written on: 07/04/2005 by DBZgamer (1 review written)

The games on the Microsoft Xbox suck. An Xbox is just a mix between a computer and PS2. I could take my PS2 lay it flat put an Xbox over it and I could say I have an Xbox. I could take my computer put a Xbox sign on it and say I have an Xbox. I have a friend who was playing his Xbox and it blew up on him after 1 hour of play. Sure the explosion must have been cool but is it worth 150-200 dollars? Come on what are the differences between a PS2 and XBOX. PS2 came first so Xbox must have copied… Read Full Review

First off, I would like you to know that I am an Xbox hater myself. And to be fair, the Xbox isn't THAT bad. The graphics are very good, and there are a couple good games for it. And all game systems are, in a sense, a computer...because they all have the same components that make up a computer. I like the fact that you gave it a bad score, but a 0/10? I think it should at least get a 4/10...but that's just me. One thing I do agree with is that the Xbox really isn't worth the money you pay for it.
