    Bought Advent 5401 and from the start it ran at a very high temp with the fan mostly being on. Battery life was poor and after 16 months the graphics chip turned into a little toast making device and ceased to function. I had spent that little bit extra at Curry's and thought I was getting a better quality machine but foolish me it was not to be. I was happy with the laptop's performance and ease of use as it suited my purposes at home. If I had known how short an operating life it was going to have I would have bought a different cheaper one or even second hand. If anyone asks me don't buy one unless after a year you just want an unusual small electric heater for your house that you can sit in front of and warm your cold fingers with.

    Ive owned the Advent 5401 laptop for just over a year, one morning whilst doing some work on it the screen just went blank. Powered if of then back on again and instead of the usual screen, I get six small screens, no amount of re-booting resolves it, ive even resorted to re-installing vista, still the same problem. Clearly a hardware issue, from reading other reviews and searching on the net I know this to be a failed graphics card which cannot be replaced. DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP - £45 ...

    I bought this laptop last summer from PC World, and the warranty ran out in September. I began to get error messages about the graphics card, tried to investigate, and before I knew it, my laptop was completely dead. I've had it looked at and the technician agreed that the graphics card had most likely fried the motherboard, making it non-repairable.

    Bought this laptop August 2008 and guess what, 2 months out of warranty the motherboard is broken and PC world want £229 to replace it! Does there seem to be a common theme between this and the later complaints. Are the people who were so pleased with their new computer as thrilled now??

    after 15 months the graphics went and had to have it repaired, not happy i expected it to last a lot longer than that since talking to other people about it another one of my freinds had the same trouble after 13 months, not a good advert for advent !!!!

    i bought my laptop after 6 months the mptherboard died, sent it in for repair, then 2 days before warrentee expired the motherboard died again !!!! sent it in for repair, i just couldnt believe it one month later it went again, 3 sodding mother boards this laptop has had, i recieved it back this morning working superbly etc im going to put it on ebay and buy another, DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL LAPTOP

    i bought the advent 5401 last july and after 13 months the motherboard went due to the graphics card overheating the pc and ruining the motherboard i would not recommened this laptop to anyone as there was obviously a fault with it to start with pc world deny they ve never heard there is a fault with it

    i bought an advent 5401 laptop 13 months ago and have just found out the mother board has burnt out due to a dodgy graphics card been to pc world and they said lap tops can go wrong and were completly unhelpful i paid nearly 500 pound for it and am angry that they seem to think its ok to last for only 13 months i will never buy from pc world again and they should accept responsability why when you buy it they dont tell you this make and model only last 13 months is well out of order and they don ...

    I bough an Advent 5401 last year from PC world in Derry and the thing gave up after 13 months. They told me to get lost that they were only interested in selling not fixing and that i shoud have bought a decent laptop, at 450 pounds i thought i was. The graphics chip on the motherboard has failed and their is no replacement motherboard around. So my advice is to stick to a good Dell or Compaq.

    This Advent 5401 is a piece of junk. The battery life on it is pathetic and after owning it for only 13 months it just died! PC world were useless - their attitude it: thats technology for you! which is unacceptable. Had it checked out by professionals only to find out that the Motherboard has packed up!!! After 13 months - this is outragious! I would never ever touch one of these again! If the thing is only built to last a year or just over then its a total waste of money.

    After 13 months of easy use the grahpics failed on my Advent 5401 leaving a completely dead laptop. PC World's (the supplier) only comment to me was ' thats modern technology for you' and refusal to do anything about it.
    So I would definitely think twice before purchasing this machine.

    A nice good quality laptop at a great price.Vista runs a treat due to the great spec overall i am very happy with this Advent 5401 machine.

    This advent 5401 Laptop has caused me nothing but misery from day one, I got it for christmas 2 years back, after 4 months the screen just went without no reason, pc world said it was faulty so i got a new one 3 months after that the charging cable wasnt working so that was replaced by pc world after half an hours talk on the phone. All was well until Today.
    I got another problem with it, this time the battery is dead after only owning it for the two years, i have had soo many problems with this ...

    was wary buying Advent when there were other big names available at the time at about the same price, but I had got an advent for my son going to college ,and he was very happy with it,so I went with it for that reason and have not looked back. I love it, my ADVENT 5401. Lovely feel to touch pad compared to others I tried, but I would like longer battery life

    Good laptop for those who do not just want it as a typewriter or internet browser, it is a good all round media laptop and very good value for money.

    Not the prettiest machine in the world, but a great performer, just pray that nothing goes wrong, because if it does you're in trouble...motherboard blew up after 3 months - Advent have advised that a replacement will not be avaialble to ship for another 3 months!!!!!
    Good points are memory screen chipset dedicated graphics card hardrive size web cam

    Great machine found Vista a bit confusing but getting used to it now. Screen very clear and easy to use keyboard. Lots of memory and a large HD. Who could ask for more especially at so reasonable a price.
    Love it! Its small and easy to carry around does all you ask
    But please some tell me where to get a replacement battery for it.

    at frst i icouldnt believe my luck, a core2 duo 1.83ghz 2mb cache, 3gb of ram, 250gb HD, 2mb webcam, dvd rw, WITH a decent geforce 8400m gs (256mb dedicated, 1gb turbocache) all for under £400. this thing ran as good as the desktop it replaced, AND i could happily play games at a decent level. but trying to get ANY sort of support for updating drivers was embarassing, especially considering how many advent laptops there are.
