All the reviews here are spot on!. This insurance is provided by AXA who put you through hoops in making a claim. Even a check up will require full details from the dentist about the treatment! Expect to have to take your Dentist's time in signing and providing reports supporting any claim. The surgery cannot sign on behalf of the Dentist, it has to be the Dentist themselves! You will find that most Dentists really appreciate this! Tesco (read more)

When I started my insurance policy it was £16 per month. I have needed very little work to be done over the years but when I had two fillings my premium skyrocketed and is now £23. I thought having insurance was supposed to be there for when you needed to have work done? (read more)

I joined Tesco Dental Insurance in 2008 and every single claim I have made has been queried by them because they claimed my dentist has not given me the appropriate paperwork (a detailed itemised account) when, indeed, they had done and they refused to pay out until they had spoken to my dentist over the telephone. They just left the claim for weeks without contacting me so I had to contact them on every occasion and go through the same thing over and over again (giving them permission to... (read more)

glad i read this. Was considering taking out a few insurance packs with tesco based on their prices but having read this, not going to bother with any tesco insurance products. cheap premiums are only good if they pay out when needed. thanks.

Tesco (AXA) dental insurance was recommended to me by an existing customer and friend, I researched premiums with other providers and could have used my Medical Insurance supplier who are "Simply" excellent, but I decided to go with an alternative after the accolade I was was given. My mistake !! , its been a disaster, so despite trying to fit within their terms and conditions and my dentist accommodating their unreasonable claims for further information I find myself effectively without the... When Tesco first started doing dental insurance it was pretty good. However, when it came to renewal time the benefits were drastically reduced. I suspect they rely on people not bothering to change once they've signed up. Where their strategy fails is that AXA find the least little excuse to reject or delay a claim. In addition, their "help desk" staff are rude and totally incompetent. The net effect is that not only have I changed insurance - I've changed supermarkets as well. AXA have... (read more)

you got it 100% correct, did you know axa's own dental insurance is a better purchase?

Total waste of money. I had to squabble with every claim. Even reported the Co. to the Financial Ombudman who could not help because the way AXA constuct their policies. Unfortunately AXA also administer Denplan and I wonder if they too have problems. We have cancelled our policy and decided to put the premium in a savings account instead. We even had the Premium Cover. Policy can only be decribe as RUBBISH!!!! (read more)

Completely useless is my opinion of Tesco AXA PPP Dental Insurance, having had their cover since 2008. I would strongly advise anyone against taking out this cover for dental treatment. For dental hygienist sessions two or three times a year this might just be worthwhile but if one needs any more serious work on one's teeth forget it. My dentist referred me to a periodontologist for necessary treatment and I was led to believe this would be covered by the policy. However my claims for... (read more)

a simple claim involving a routing check has not been paid now for 7 weeks. when I enquired on the status, I was told that it was in the post but due to adverse weather conditions, it has not arrived! on enquiring about reissuing the cheque, i was told that it will take 10 working days for them to do that and then to post it! a previous claim took only 4 months to get paid!! I too was with Tesco AXA PPP dental insurance for 2 years. Their premium cover was good with 80% payment up to £2000 and £200 for check ups and hygenist etc.
I 've just been offered renewal and not only has the premium increased but they now only give 50% up to £1000 a year for dental treatment and not more than £500 for crowns etc.
The explanation that I was given was that this is an old policy and it was unmanagable. The new policies have been brought down to other providers levels.

I agree with this review. Where's the point of having premium cover if it doesn't actually "Cover". The whole point of dental insurance is to make sure you don't get faced with heavy costs in the event of necessary dental surgery for say an urgent root canal or crown. You still end up with a large bill which frankly Tesco, defeats the object. Its a clever policy that ensures you keep paying the premium whilst compromising on the surgery. For example, the individual who's lost his job but struggles to keep paying his premium. It's a bit of a con. It was just acceptable at 80% but at 50%, its a scam.

Tesco dental insurance premium cover is one of the best policies I have ever had. The staff are polite and bend over backwards to help you if you do not have the right paperwork. I recently had problems with my dentist, refusing to give me itemised receipts. They called the dentist to explain why I needed the receipts and persuaded them to give them to me with no hassle. I know they have changed the benefits, but I have searched around, and they are still value for money. Other insurances... (read more)

Tesco's dental plan with AXA has been a disgrace to use. They are un organised and there are hundreds of loop holes in the policies that means you don't get all your money back. I paid extra to go premium and did not see any benefits from it other than more hassle when you go to the dentist as they have to sign and stamp it several times. When you did manage to get all the paper work to them and for them finally to agree to pay out it took months for them to send a cheque. I was totally... (read more)

I have been with Tesco AXA PPP dental insurance for 2 years now. I was really happy with the premium cover - it offered 80% from up to £2000 on dental work and £200 for check ups, hygenist etc. That was brilliant and covered what I needed. Now they have changed to only 50% out of £1000 a year for dental treatment and not more than £500 for crowns. I am going to stop using them as it looks like a joke - good crown cost more than £500 and fillings are over £100, what is a... (read more)

TESCO PREMIUM DENTAL INSURANCE
This is a very good scheme in that it allows for nhs and private treatment for the one payment per month. All nhs claims are repaid in full, and private treatment is paid in part. AS such things as a dental bridge is not available on the nhs this is a really good buy, especially for the older person where more things can go wrong.
The only downside is the amount of paperwork required in order to claim. Sometimes the dental practice is not best pleased at the...

Had to get course of dental treatment costing £1012, thought not a problem I am insured with Tesco! well I had to go through 2 levels of management to get any saisfaction, and now cover for that treatment seems to have been taken out of all policies & so has xray payments. so wot do you get now? not a lot. ps. this policy is hrough AxA, but if you buy an AxA own policy, I believe it is cheaper & you get more cover. Have had the cover for the last 5 years, and the above is completely wrong - the only push-back I have ever had, was when the dentist buggered up and double charged a consultation fee.
The claims process is straightforward, and they pay-out usually within 2 weeks of sending the claim off.
