Good Points: I received this as a Christmas gift from my wife and it worked great for about 6 months. I was happy because it had the Sony name and I have owned other Sony products over the years. I still have a 36 inch and 42 inch Sony TV.

Bad Points: Freezes up, does not read discs.

General comments: After about 6 months, my Sony DVP-S530D would not play some of my DVD's at all. If it did play them, it would freeze or completely stop in the middle of a movie and give me a blue screen with a 013 error message. Most recently, it would tell me there is no disc in the machine when in fact it did have one. I was under the impression that my DVD's were bad but when I play them on another cheap DVD player, they played just fine.

This Sony DVP-S530D dvd player is the worst piece of electronics I have ever seen. It skips, video doesn't match audio, most recently it will barely power on and work. It has been junk since not long after I bought it, first I thought it was DVDs but later it became obvious. BAD EQUIPMENT WITH GREAT FEATURES BUT WONT ACCOMPLISH THE BASICS OF PLAYING A DVD.

The Sony DVP-S530D DVD player does a great job of playing all my DVDs. Until the recent release of "The Lord of The Ring: The Two Towers". The machine will start to play scene 51 then a few seconds in it will jump back to the beginning of scene 50. It will continue to cycle like this until you use fast forward when scene 51 starts.

Player only worked well for 6 months. After that, it began to freeze during certain points on some disks. A few months later had began to show errors such as "disk dirty" or "no disk". This eventually happened with all disks to the point where before throwing it out it would only say "No disk" after any disk was inserted. These disk all play great on my new $65 JVC DVD player, so I know it wasn't the disk, but the Sony player which failed me. Before tossing it, I took the cover off and it wa ...

The Sony DVP-S530D is definitely an adequate DVD player. Plays DVD's well and I haven't had a problem.
Hard to get my burned audio cds to work on it. Seems a little oversensitive.

I own the Sony S530D DVD player. Stopped working suddenly(what a surprise) with error message: no disc. Now I see this is a common problem! Sony- such a name with a reputation! I just didn't realize the products had such a short life. Come on, Sony- take care of this.
