Used their Trafford Centre (Manchester) branch a few weeks back to buy a pair of rimless glasses. Was told they would be sent out within a week. They arrived some three weeks later, too late for a holiday I was due to go on. Not only that, but they arrived BENT. Now the frames were of a popular sunglasses brand so it was the manufacturer that needed to fit the lens into the frame, send to Optical Express who would then send to me. After paying 500 pound deposit for treatment i went to manchester and was told the surgeon would not do the treatment as it was not suitable and i should not of been sent there but cant get money back been trying for 6 weeks ,staff are rude and i cannot get any where court is the only answer (read more)

I went for an eye appointment due to having bad headaches. My first appointment I blacked out during the eye test and was quite unwell.The store manager was fantastic and helped get me sorted with an ambulance so I decided to re book. The next appointment however was not too great. The test seemed very haphazard and I was injured by the phoropter being slammed into my face too hard. After being approached by phone many times to inform me that there is a surgical procedure to correct my vision I made an appointment for a consultation. Travelled from Long Eaton to derby optical express in November 2012 and within five minutes I was told that there was no surgical procedure to correct reading problems due to old age. i was so scared at first, actually im scared of everything and am the worst worrier. i decided to go for the op.i had my lasik wavefront intralase surgery on saturday 9th march 2013 at the shaftsbury avenue branch of optical express and was the best thing iv done. my surgeon was [name removed] who was incredible and quick.its painless and over within 8 minutes. i can finally see and have better than 20/20 vision. The operation has changed my life, i no longer have to wear contact lenses or glasses atall. The staff in store are extremely helpful and make sure to do whatever they can to ensure you have perfect vision. For the first time in over 20 years I can thread a needle without calling someone else in to help! I can read text so small that others had to fetch a magnifying glass to realise I was correct. I no longer have to worry about where my glasses are all the time, no problems of them steaming up in humid weather or on rainy days. The dark circles under my eyes are vanishing as the sunlight can get to the skin again. The results of an operation that took under 4 minutes are beyond outstanding.... (read more)

In June 2012 I purchased a pair of prescription sunglasses from Optical Express, Kensington High street. They had to be returned to the factor 3 times, due to incorrect prescriptions and stretched frames. Eventually in August I asked for a refund and was told I would receive a check in the post. I contenplated having laser treatment for many years and regret not having it done sooner. I cannot fault the way I have been treated, everything has been explained fully in an informal manor but with professionalism. A friend who had had a procedure from Optical Express recommended I go for a consultation as it was the best thing she had ever done. I booked an appointment staright away to see if I was suitable for surgery. Thankfully I was suitable and as my perscription was not too high I had a choice of different procedures to pick from. I was like others nervous at first about the surgery. But the staff were so reassuring that helped relax me. After the usual day one of slight uncomfortableness my eyes were in working order and good by the following morning. Its now month three and I am better than 20/20! Its so good to go running/cycling and not need glasses to see what is ahead. Well worth the expense and I would recommend the surgery to anyone of any age. (read more)

I am 23 and had Advanced CustomVue Wavefront LASIK with Intralase in Kingston with Jonathan Carr as my Surgeon on the 25th April to improve my prescription (-4.50). Had an eye test with OE, and needed an adjustment to my prescription. Paid for eye test and set of new lenses for my existing frames. Was not told at the time that I would have send my existing frames away to Glasgow to have the lenses fitted. Pudlad this has happened to my partner. He went into a local store to enquire about laser treatment and was told he could have the operation, this was way back in October. £400 was paid an appointment for the operation was made.
He went to the clinic and was told he could not have the operation. We are still trying to get the money back.
We have phoned countless times and have been promised a calls back to no avail. They assured us it would be paid before Christmas and its still not been credited back on the credit card. It's almost three months.
We are going to write about this on as many consumer sites as possible, including Facebook and twitter to warn people about this company. We've now had to go to our credit card company to try and get this money back under section 75 on the 1974 consumer act.
It really is disgraceful to be expected to wait this length of time.

Be very careful about paying for surgery upfront Optical express are very quick to take your money and say you compatible to get your money.I was then told im not compatible.I have been told it can take up 28 days.They wont do it in store.VERY important do not pay the full amount upfront just to be safe. Booked laser eye surgery then found out next day I was pregnant, was told I could have a refund of my £200 deposit paid as I cancelled within 72 hours. Was told to go the shop and would be refunded when got there was told no I had to ring head office to do this. Head office said could take 28 days but would request it as urgent as was miss informed. My wife got a consultation at Optical Express who told her she was definitely suitable and encouraged her to pay and book straight away. She paid nearly £3000 for her procedure but was then refused by the surgeon as she is not suitable. Optical express then refused to give us an immediate refund and made us wait 6 weeks for our money. I had Lasik Wavefront with Intralase, at the Newcastle store, I had a mild prescription but large pupils so had to go for the Lasik Wavefront. I was at the clinic for 3 hours, and the surgery was done in the last 15 minutes. The surgery was fine, I was terrified and tense so the surgeon said he couldn't get the clamp on my eye unless I relaxed, I finally calmed down enough and they continued. Ordered a pair of Hugo Boss varifocals was told ready in a week, three weeks later I phoned them and was told they were ready (this should of rang alarm bells as they couldn’t be bothered to tell me) went to collect and couldn't believe how bad they had made them. Lied about laser eye surgery, claimed it would 'cure' my eyes forever and that they'd never regress. Also lied about being able to refund my surgery deposit, carefully omitting the fact that you have exactly 72 hours from the date you book to surgery to get a refund. the biggest mistake of my life is to go there and even pay more money for a better (!) lenses which I didnt even get one that I can actually be able to use ! after 8 times of goping to the store for the change (plus the terrible attitude of the store staff) I asked for the refund. Optical Express Westfield I bought a pair of designer glasses circa £500 worth in December, I was well looked after, paid my money, and they went out of their way to get my glasses to me in a week. (Frankly I would have thought that standard - but my first experience). THEN.. They damaged my glasses (frame snapped a few days later) and refuse to compensate me, I am also still trying to get a refund of the £10 and have since found out that most opticians do MOTs for free ! I have been a customer at the branch (George St, Edinburgh) for many years including the dental clinic, I am never going back. Their attitude to customer service is appalling. (read more)

I visited the Milton Keynes branch of Optical Express 0n 3rd February 2011 for an eye test and then ordered my Frames (the same as my existing ones) and Lenses and paid a credit card deposit, initially for my reading glasses, and required them prior to going on holiday on the 10th March. Plenty of time for new glasses!!
Optical Express confirmed that the frames were available and I was told it would be about a week to have them delivered and fitted into the frames. I checked with them a week...

My glasses have continually come loose since the day I bought them ! Have to retrurn to the store nearly EVERY WEEK to get them tightened ! They have tried gluing and other things but they are just useless ! Avoid this store / company at ALL costs !!!! (read more)

Purchased a spare pair of specs for the sole purpose of using when riding a motorcycle. The frames a large and not fashionable but are ideal for purpose. The assistant knew of the reason for purchase. The first time I wput the specs on the frame broke. I returned them to store, a round trip of 45 or so miles. I was told a replacement frame would be about 3-4 days.
I enquired to where they were after one, two, three and four weeks.#No one has ever contacted me from store.

Optical Express charged £366 extra for Zeiss lenses, delivered spectacles had Seiko lenses which Optical Express were not forthcoming about. Returned specs for refund and was told this would take 2-4 weeks, cant be refunded to the credit card used to purchase.
I then went to local optician and was charged £157 for same specification Zeiss lenses
I would not trust Optical Express with my business ever again
