“handle”

★★★☆☆

written by on 06/12/2012

me and my dad both bought paintpods, about 4 months apart, and both have retractable handles which your supposed to press and pull up... well when you press the handles they don't pop up and are stuck, and neither of us have our reciepts so are stuck with the handles in. apart from that they do work ok....

“Paint pod and paint”

★★★☆☆

written by on 29/06/2011

we bought this last year, to paint in our new house, well, after the first one had to go back, we should of asked for a refund. Takes an absolute age to clean the roller,( as long as does to paint rooms)and then its not like new,Yes you use less paint, but yesterday i got paint back out shed to touch up here and there, to find that even though the lids were put back on as tight as they can, the paint that was left was no use for anything, one tub was like powder, and the others were as hard as can be, so had to throw out 3 half tins of very expensive paint.

“A brilliant idea and when it works it's fantastic. ...”

A brilliant idea and when it works it's fantastic. Sadly the quality control is very poor.

I purchased one from B&Q at the reduced price of £30, painted my hallway and then cleaned and packed it away. The following week I got it out to start painting again and the thing wouldn't pump any paint. So I returned it to B&Q and they replaced it with a new unit.

I took that home and it pumped paint half way up the tube started to make a horrible noise and it stopped pumping. So I returned that one and got another replacement.

I was half way through painting the bathroom and it wouldn't stop pumping paint. I turned the unit off ran a cleaning cycle and tried again and then it wouldn't pump any paint at all. So back to B&Q for another unit, I finished off the bathroom and then did the living room ceiling and all seems to be working ok. Fingers crossed that this one will work still when I go to use it next.

To summarise this is a really good idea and when it works it's great, painting ceilings is a doddle and it really is spatter and drip free, great if you have pets or small children. The self cleaning is ok and gets the worse of the job done but you still need to manually wash it to make sure it's clean

“There are pro's and con's with this system. ”

★★★☆☆

written by partypest on 28/02/2011

There are pro's and con's with this system.

If you have become used to modern 'one-coat' type paints, do not expect the same instant results with this system. If you paint the proper, old fashioned way, using an undercoat, you will do better.

If, like me, you have pets or small children or endure frequent interruptions whilst you decorate, this device makes life a lot easier. There are no open paint pots standing around, or trays of paint, or precariously balanced rollers awaiting the specialist attention of passing dogs/cats/toddlers. You never have to endure that special moment when pouring paint into a roller tray.

Additionally, as this method requires no frequent stops to refill a roller tray, you may find that the ability to constantly roller is quite tiring!

The triangular brush that comes with the system allows for very fast work in the corners.

Expect to apply three coats in most circumstances. As each coat is quite thin, most of the time the first coat is dry enough to re-coat by the time you've got around the room. This being so, you will find that you can complete a room in a few hours.

The self cleaning function is a triumph. I hate cleaning rollers, now I set it up at the end of the day, press the button and have a cup of tea.

I have found you can refill the paintpod paint pots with any standard emulsion, just don't be tempted to go for anything that uses less litres per square meter of coverage, it'll be too thick for the pump to suck. The extension tubes make a big room or ceilings a doddle.

Yes, most people have mentioned the noise the machine makes. I have a radio that deals with that.

“Bought my Dulux Painpod just over a year ago and it...”

written by on 31/01/2011

Bought my Dulux Painpod just over a year ago and it worked great for painting a small bedroom with plaster walls. Just dug it out again to do the living room. First problem, I had 3/4 of a pot of white left from last time which I planned to use on living room ceiling - it had totally solidified, such a waste of money! I wondered if the severe cold this winter might have affected it but some other emulsion that's beein in the same garage for 3 years is still OK. Second problem, the coverage on the wallpapered surface of the living room was much poorer than on plaster and I needed 4 coats - used 2x5l pots at £29.99 a pot! So all in all a bit expensive. If I was rating it on the first use I'd have given 5 stars, if rating just on the latesr experience probably 1 star so in fairness I'll give it an average of 3.

I used the Dulux paint pod to paint a ceiling and was very impressed with the results and finish. The paint brush handle though is heavy, especially for ceilings. A few days leter, when I went back to do a second coat, paint started to drip from the roller head. The feeder roller didn't work properly.I couldn't see why and in the end had to abandon it for the good old fashioned manual roller.

We bought the paint pod and paint yesterday from B&Q We were after a soft brown paint checked the charts and chose the just walnut colour, on applying the paint was very pale and not at all like the colour on the chart. We took the paint back to the shop and they agreed and gave us another pod what a suprise it the same as the first one at £30.00 a pop its an expensive mistake. Buyers beware.

HI
The paint pod is a great idea ive just borrowed one to try is there any way you can use the empty pain packs and refill them with other paint have heard that as long as its matt it will work
At £30 for other than white and 5ltr ubs you can be left with quite a bit of paint you may not use which is a lot of paint as freind still had quite a bit left after doing 2 rooms and 2 coats
any ideas on this

“Works better with a colour paint but the brillant...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 17/10/2009

Works better with a colour paint but the brillant white is too thin and weak. I had to do about five coats of white over a light cream colour to cover it totally. On the clean cycle it doesn't clean the paint roller very well (just makes it very wet) - best to just do it the old fashioned way. You have to work at paint coverage as the paint tends to come out just in the middle of the roller and can be streaky if you don't spread it about. When on ladders and painting the top of the walls the pump is less efficient and coverage tends to look thinner. Dulux really need to think about a better pump for future models. In its favour it is cleaner to use, quicker to paint with and most in its favour is that it doesn't waste any paint which is a blessing as the paint isn't exactly cheap.

written by patchdb7 on 09/07/2009

This is not bad for large expanses of wall that need painting quickly but isn't the best for smaller rooms with lots of nooks and crannies. Ceilings are hard work no matter what but if you want an even spread with the Paintpod it will take a fair bit of muscle and stamina. Also worried over the reliability long term. I found the trigger had problems within 5 minutes - by the very nature of rolling, you have to grip firmly but the silicon skin on the trigger moves about as a result. My trigger got stuck in the ON position regularly due to the silicon - it isn't better without (the feeble plastic trigger can then easily fall out). In addition, after just one room I found the ends of the roller were looking very warn. Cleaning was OK but must be done more than once.

“I found the Dulux Paintpod tricky to use at first, but...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 19/05/2009

I found the Dulux Paintpod tricky to use at first, but after a day i was going round the walls like a rocket. HOWEVER - it has not been reliable. After the first clean the trigger mechanism started to play up so that nothing happened when i pressed the trigger on the roller, and then, just as I was about to give up, the paint started to pump through even though my finger was no longer on the trigger. Then it decided for itself when to stop, so if too much paint was coming through I had to hit the pause button on the pod itself. This was very unsatisfactory, so I took it back to B&Q and they replaced it. Guess what - the replacement behaved exactly the same way. I soldiered on and finished the rooms I needed to finish that day and went back to B&Q again, who said they are unaware of any generic problem, but I heard a checkout operator telling another that they have had a lot of people reporting the same problem. We need to apply pressure on Dulux, because i like my paint pod but I don't want to be taking it back to the shop every time i use it.

written by Jasmin White on 19/04/2009

The Dulux PaintPod Roller System was uick and easy to use. Only once dripped paint during first use.
Took a while to get an even coverage on the walls including white walls but that could be down to technique.

“The Dulux PaintPod Roller System is very clean to use...”

★★★☆☆

written by cdsinuk on 18/03/2009

The Dulux PaintPod Roller System is very clean to use and didnt spill or splatter on anything that didnt need paint, the shaped cutting in brush is easy to use, self cleaning is a dream although i let it do 2 cleaning cycles just to be sure, gives good first time coverage and saves you quite alot of paint You still have to cut in with a brush, pity there wasnt a smaller roller attachment for smaller area's, i think the paint is quite exspensive. overall i think the paint pod system is a great idea, hopefully further developments of the system will make life a bit easier if they improved the roller so it paints up to the edge with some kind of guard so you dont get paint on the cieling or coveing when painting walls .

“I love the Dulux PaintPod as it means I do not have to...”

★★★☆☆

written by JOHNNYRICH on 23/10/2008

I love the Dulux PaintPod as it means I do not have to stop painting as the paint is feed through the brush not like a roller and the paint is feed evenly on your walls .the paint tends to last longer as there is no wastage so you can do more. It doesnt clean as well as it says and be careful as it can drip if you keep the trigger pressed and you are not painting quick enough.also ceilings it tends to drip down your arm so better for walls. But i would still recommend it as it saves time yes it is a little expensive for the paint but there is no wastage less drips no mess so if its you thats painting worth paying a little more .

Can anyone tell me what type of paint they used in the paint pod? Thought that only the special paint designed for it could be used. Since both are discontinued, what are people using in their paintpod? I have a brand new one in storage and believe I can't use it as the paints are no longer available.
