Written on: 28/01/2013

I bought this machine after much decision making, even though it was reduced to 24.99 at Yorkshire Trader. Read some good and bad reviews. Not constantly using the trigger is the answer, and try and use like you would use a manual roller, when its fuelled with paint stop pressing trigger and roll the paint out until it needs priming again. Cleaning took about two full cleans and two drains, and i removed the roller to hand clean it. At the end of the day I like it, it was spreading paint... (read more)

“Less useful than a chocolate teapot”

Written on: 26/01/2013 by vanderboon

The dulux paintpod ranks with such technological advances as the chocolate teapot. Utter s**t, I would make less mess sucking the paint through a tube and spitting it onto the wall. Don't buy one, don't borrow one, if you see one smash it with a hammer. Rubbish paint coverage (unless you count the skirting boards and floor). Uneven paint coverage (unless you count the skirting boards and the floor). Pointless invention, I'm glad I only borrowed it from my father-in-law. Buy a paint... (read more)

System worked well and self cleaned OK, but paint is thin and 2 coats may well be needed, and it doesn't come cheap! Also, the whole point of covering the original builders emulsion in my 4 year old house was to make it kid proof and washable, which this paint is definitely not. (read more)

Bought this last week as it looks so easy on the adverts...I couldn't of been more wrong! After initial assembly which was easy (only good thing I can say!) I started cutting in then rolled the paint onto the Walls...here's where the nightmare began! Firstly for some reason the paint seems to take a different effect when you cut in than when you use the roller so you get a 'picture frame' effect on the walls. Secondly the paint is poor quality, after two coats you still have a patchy effect... (read more)

I purchased my PaintPod and several of its attachments over a year ago and, due to a protracted house move, did not get it out of the box for a little over a year. First time I used it, it worked like a dream, even cleaning itself, although I did have to repeat the clean mode as the roller was not sufficiently clean after the first attempt. Dulux DID reply to my letter and sent me a voucher to enable me to claim another PaintPod machine from B&Q. Of course I will use the voucher but the sceptic in me feels that it won't be any better than the first. A brilliant idea and when it works it's fantastic. Sadly the quality control is very poor.

There are pro's and con's with this system.

If you have become used to modern 'one-coat' type paints, do not expect the same instant results with this system. If you paint the proper, old fashioned way, using an undercoat, you will do better.

If, like me, you have pets or small children or endure frequent interruptions whilst you decorate, this device makes life a lot easier. There are no open paint pots standing around, or trays of paint, or precariously balanced rollers awaiting the... (read more)

Absolute waste of money even at half price. The Paint for the system is too expensive. Requires more coates than stated in the advert. Not enough paint given to the roller.

What a waste of money this shoddy product is. The TV advert portrays a system that's easier to paint and easier to clean. In fact a roller is quicker and less mess, but the real con is how hard it is to clean. The automatic system only cleans the pipe (even if, like I did, you run it through twice) and you end up having to clean the roller by hand. There are no advantages to this product at all. The watery paint is 50% more expensive and you save nothing in time. Mine's going where it... (read more)

Fiddly to set up. It doesn't deliver enough paint to the roller, you have to press the roller really hard against the surface you are painting which is very tiring - especially when coating a ceiling as I was. It wasn't anything like how the TV ad portrayed the product.
The resulting coat of paint was thin and transparent - and this was white on white paint. The paint pod paint is not much good for edging in either as it seems to be less dense than ordinary emulsion.

The paint mixture is extremely thin and watery, so therefore takes too many layers to get a good covering on the wall. Due to the watery consistency found that it was also very messy with drops landing everywhere. Not very easy to use on walls with nooks and crannies (around staircase bannisters and windows etc.).

Luckily we borrowed a friends to test first, so had only bought the paint - still a very expensive learning curve though. Give me an old fashioned roller and paintbrush any day! (read more)

It does allow you to paint without any mess but it does seem to take longer than traditional methods (including covering stuff up)because it only puts a small amount of paint on, you really have to work it and you do seem to hold the trigger on most of the time to get a decent amount coat on.
