Good Points: A very contextual account of Ernesto Guevara Lynch de la Serna's life. Jon Lee Anderson gives the reader the facts, and the context in which those facts developed. His sources of information were just outstanding.
Bad Points: By reading Anderson's book one can get very knowledgeable about Ernesto Guevara Lynch de la Serna's life. Unfortunately, his lack of philosophical analysis limits the impact of his work to a trivial discussion of personalities. It would have been very enlightening to explore and uncover the ideas - the belief system, the philosophy that had made possible Che Guevara.
General comments: Jon Lee Anderson, Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life - this book is very rich in events, characters and description of scenarios. The sensitivity of Jon Lee Anderson to understand, explain and contextualize delicate cultural, political and emotional subtleties is the most enjoyable part of the book.
I experienced El Che as an activist student at the University of Rosario, Argentina. At the end of the 60's I revolted against the "authority" in his name. Anderson's work expanded my knowledge about my own experience.
I only wished the author would have dedicated some space to discuss what has made Che Guevara possible - to discuss the premises that made Che take the actions he took and his philosophy.
