Good Points: Fun Turbo kick. Excellent pick up. Economical when not thrashed. Reasonable to insure. Fun, fun, fun.

Bad Points: Tinny build. Easy to lose road grip if not given respect.
My cars alloy engine block cracked at 60000 miles, was repaired succesfully but it was a headache to fix.

General comments: I proudly owned a Daihatsu Charade and ran it for 10 years, it brought a smile to my face every day.
I well remember the morning drive from Sutton to Dorking on a 40 mile hour stretch. Jags and Beamers used to chase me from the traffic lights but were no match for the GTti's initial acceleration, they inevitably got snapped by speed cameras when trying to catch up!
It was a sad day for my sons and me when I had to retire it.

I have just bought a Jap modified GTti with 140 Bhp. I've boosted it up to 1.5 bar and it even wheel spins in fourth. Last night I blew away a 200bhp starlet Gt turbo!! Had it dynoded and it spat out 207hp @ the flywheel.

The Daihatsu Charade GTti is the best car that Japan has came out because in 90's. A few and very expensive cars were twin cam and turbo. So, until here we have:993cc,turbo,intercooler,two cams,12 valves AND........100ps from ONLY 993cc.

Overall the Daihatsu Charade GTti can really can bring a lot of fun. A small car can really outrun a lot of other cars. I booast up to 1.5 bar, change my engine block to a 1.3. My ECU also swop to Microtech. I tested on this car, about 7sec to 100km/h

I had a 'E' reg Daihatsu Charade GTti back in 1990, I paid about £3500 for it second hand with 37000 mile on the clock , it looked brand new and still looked brand new when i sold it 3 years later, proberly the best car i ever had, drove it all over france & spain with 3 passangers clocking up 1000's of miles with no trouble at all!

The GTti was well ahead of its time, it had the most powerful 1 litre engine (99BHP) in the world earning its entry in the guiness book of records. It looke ...

Had a 'J' 92 reg a while back now and I wish I'd never got rid of it. I tuned it up to 135 BHP with just one modification - a trip to a local garage with a starchip conversion in hand. The best £400 I ever spent....WOW!!! I found it hard to find other tuning aids as there were very few sold in England so the tuning pro's did'nt seem that interested..Big Mistake. When I was about to sell it there seem to be a sudden craze in my area for them, I think it maybe had something to do with me tea ...

The Daihatsu Charade GTti is reasonably tame in standard form but has potential to be a successful racecar (was class N rally winner in 1990), especially if you live in the UK and TSR racing is still doing tweeks with it. They built two models, one achieving 140BHP the other 160BHP, the latter having an estimated 0-60mph in around 5 seconds. The stock model is a standard 993cc/99BHP 3 cylinder engine, with twin overhead cams and turbo intercooler, with a 0-60 in around 7.5 secs. Once described a ...

The Daihatsui Charade GTi is great for a first car! Reasonably tame in standard trim but has potential to be a successful racecar.
