Holiday date 26th August 2009 to 2nd September 2009
My Family and I have just finished a one week holiday at your Ty- Nada site in Brittany France.
When we booked the holiday it was after a long consideration of all of the sites in the area and mainly based on your on-line video, along with the comprehensive written commentary with several further comments made by other visitors to the Ty-Nada site.
As we were booking at high season prices we felt that we would have the full itinerary available to us and our family to use, along with full site facilities as per the brochure promises.
I am saddened to be the bearer of bad news; the holiday did not meet any of the standards we were expecting, even if the standard was less than 50% of what we could justifiably expect.
On arrival the two adult females in our group needed to use the W/C, we could not find our rep so the only obvious convenience was the bar; they were both appalled to find human waste all over the floor and toilet bowl. This was a poor start for what is billed as a ( 4) Four Star resort. This was in itself a disgusting situation, this was equalled by the fact that whilst using the "loo" they could clearly see men using the urinal, so it follows they could be seen! Please do not try to convince me this is normal for France, as this was not true of any other public convenience on site.
We asked one of our reps if she would like to see our booking form and she declined explaining it will not matter as the site was "closing down for the end of season".
We were shown to our mobile home, which was in shade and on one of the main interior roads on site. We were not shown how to use any of the van installed gas appliances or what to do if they went wrong. The position of the mobile home was not as your web-site boasts we were totally exposed with little or no privacy. On opening the door to the accommodation, we were greeted by a swarm of flies, which continued to stay with us for the whole week despite our efforts to minimize their infestation. We later found that the communal bins were very near and full to over flowing with all sorts of waste, which was never empted.
Our first few hours were spent cleaning the accommodation and buying toilet cleaning equipment from the site shop. We are not cleaning "FREAKS" however a basic level is a must when using facilities used by others, especially when it is obvious no-one else has cleaned before your arrival.
I took the matter up with your rep who said that a full clean would happen at the end of the season in a few days (after we had gone).
The first evening we decided to use the on-site restaurant on arrival we were met by a French girl who was obviously overwhelmed. We said we had not booked and did she have a table for six. The girl explained she did, but was on her own and it could be 20/30mins for food. After almost 45mins our order had still not been taken, as several tables were sending the food back; it was under cooked. I asked the girl why she was on her own. She explained that there was one other person in the kitchen but all other staff had been laid off as the site was "closing down for the end of season".
We left and had a terrible take away meal from the next door window at a higher than expected price.
The next evening we ate out at a local restaurant in Quimperle, again we asked the rep for advice on where to eat with no real reply of any worth. I asked how far it was to Quimperle and was told 45mins by car. This proved to be completely inaccurate in fact it was only 10mins, "Do your reps know anything about the area in which they work"?
The bar on site closed earlier and earlier each night starting at around eleven on the second day of our stay, and by the last day it was closed at 9.30pm. I asked why this was and your rep told me what I should have already known "closing down for the end of season". I can assure you that by now this excuse was beginning to be a real pain. The second evening in the bar we had a music quiz of a mere 17 questions half hearted to say the least, followed by a disco in the rear room, how does this pass as high season entertainment? This was the only entertainment on site for the whole stay!!
On four separate occasions we tried to book the climbing wall only to be told the person who we needed (the expert) was not on site as he had several other sites to attend to, we never met him at all, despite many attempts.
We gave up on the climbing wall and decided to go canoeing we were ushered out of the reception by a French member of staff who gestured a pushing motion and said "no more we are closed". I tried again the following day to book three canoes, only to be told none were available; which seemed odd in a half empty camp site. The following morning I decided to get in early and met a member of staff as she opened up for the day, the response was unbelievable apparently the key for the lock was broken so no more canoes this season!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the end we booked the two 14year old boys in our group the adventure play ground and slide at a much higher price of 20 Euros each, when they went along they were the only people there, at 20 Euros for an hour I am not surprised, their comments were it was rubbish and obviously aimed at smaller children.
This holiday was supposed to be an adventure holiday combining French countryside, food and high action adventure. Instead it delivered a ghost town of a site with no onsite food, no entertainment and poor customer service. All of our ideas of what to expect from your web site were dashed day by day and the constant reminder from your rep's that the site was "closing down for the end of season". The bar staff turning off the pumps on the second day so the only drinks were bottled or spirits, all added to the idea of a site that was "closing down for the end of season".
We paid for a 4 star high season holiday and we did not get what we paid for.
To say we are disappointed in CANVAS HOLIDAYS would be the understatement of the year.
We were refunded for the cleaning equipment and £50 off of next holiday
We will not be going.

Arzano Ty Nadan clearly sells itself on a wide choice of activities which are there for all to do. If you have two or more children then the cost may mount up and I found them not good value for money. I thought the camp site was tatty around the buildings and pitches and trailers are tightly packed together. The concrete building area appeared run down as is the shop and bar area. I thought all the toilet/shower blocks bar one on the very far side are in a terrible state and have running water ...- Read sally bonnell's review (308 words)

Travelling in April we got 10 nights including a ferry crossing for only £300 for a family of 4 using French Freedom Holidays. Lots of other companies offer this site and all of the companies have really modern mobile homes. The area is so beautiful with loads of things to do and see, some fantastic restaurants and beaches are nearby and every turn of the corner is like a picture postcard scene.
Best tip make sure you go to see Pont Aven.- Read buzzy bee's review (102 words)
