Good Points: I enjoyed the descriptions of the events that he catered. I also enjoyed the pictures of the wonderful desserts that Careme created.

Bad Points: The telling of the story was okay at best. Because of the limited information on Careme's life there was a lot of heresay involved in the writing of this book. I learned a lot about the history of France and the leaders of that time period but I seemed to have missed the feeling of someone writing about food and the impact that Careme had on food. I waited for the point when I would wish I was in that time seeing for myself the wonderful and eccentric Careme at work. In my opinion, in order to write about Careme you must first love and understand the food and the skill that goes into the masterpieces that Antonin Careme created.

General comments: Ian Kelly, Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Careme - The First Celebrity Chef - I believe that with the limited information that Ian Kelly had to write this 285 page book about the life of Antonin Careme he made a great attempt to make it interesting for the reader. With that in mind, I say this with a great deal of respect for the writer. Maybe he is better suited for fiction rather then Biographies. The text was well written but without interesting points. I feel that in the proper hands this could have been a wonderful book.
