“Plagued with issues”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lacasaloca123 on 27/08/2016

Bought from a Peugeot dealer with 2k on the clock and within a month we had taken in as it kept stalling when pulling out of junctions! The garage said it was fine and we weren't revving enough so we though it maybe we were just not used to having to over rev a diesel as we had only owned petrol cars before. Just to clarify we had always bought Peugeot cars from new before this with a one off Renault in between and never had any issues although we rarely kept them for more than 4 years. This one within a year it was struggling to find first gear and continued to stall when pulling out of junctions. Then the engine warning light came on so took it to a local well reputed garage to check it out, they couldn't find the issue due to the codes being locked so back to Peugeot. The issues was an ecu issue but they couldn't narrow it down said they would have to start at the most obvious issue and keep going until it was fixed. Open check book scenario, so left it with them as we needed the car fixed. Total repaidcost £1400 for what turned out to be an ecu cylinder issue. Car worked fine for a few months with the exception of the vgear crunching and stalling then the engine light again and car returned to crawl mode so called out breakdown company who ran diagnostic and said it was turbo that had failed!!! Took it to the garage and had a replacement fitted that lasted a month and 2nd turbo fitted under warranty. All was same as before till we found it increasing gly difficult to get in to first and reverse gear so took ittl a garage that specilaised in gearboxes an ex army engender. He said the gear box need strippin down and rebuilding on a car that we'd owned for less than3 years with only 27k on the clock! The guy said Peugeots and all French cars were all built cheap and it happens more than you know a sentiment all the breakdown recovery drivers shared on our tows to various locations. £2800 and if we needed the couch and fly wheel it would be closer to £4k. We took it to z 2nd garage for a 2nd opinion as we had spent close to £2,400 on repairs on a £12k car that was now worth close to £7k and couldn't afford a huge bill as I was out of work and our saving were depleting with 2 kids and a 3rd on the way and myself on the waiting list for open heart surgery. The 2nd garage he just revved it and said couch needs replacing £800 so I said when can you fit it in couch was replaced and the car was the same :( then my brother in law said he knew a Peugeot mechanic who could look at it and he confirmed the first diagnostic along with mentioning the car had what mechanics fondly called the black death black carbon all round the engine block he offered to clean it up but took pity on us and advised that since at this point we had spent close to 4k on repairs (some not mentioned above) we should get shut and buys Japanese car either Honda or Toyota specifically and he was a Peugeot dealer mechanic! We couldt'n in all faith sell a car in this state so we went to a big dealership that sold different types and makes of cars where we eventually found a Toyota for £8k and managed to part ex the car (which they didn't even drive) that day as it was going straight to auction. It wiped out our savings but now 3years later we have a car that has cost us £30 in repairs for MOT passes wiper blades and a light bulb and drives flawlessly. I will never buy a Peugeot again and I am even put off diesels due to this car. The only thing I miss was the enormous boot and the huge sunroof but I am glad to be rid of the money pit.

peugeot 308 sw hdi 110 sport - overall a very practical car which has loads of space, excellent fuel economy, cheap road tax(£120) and a low insurance group 7.the 110bhp engine is not fast, though she does flow along in most traffic conditions.the glass roof is great and all round visibility is fantastic.i feel that the new price is fair considering all the bit and pieces you get.i would advise anybody to purchase a sw,they are a good all rounder with 7 seats and 60mpg on a run,the ride is comfortable though firm for cornering.well done peugeot, keep on manufacturing good cars.
