Selling tickets for the motorist having to park their cars in narrow corridor of Deck 4 and climbing two floors up afterwards is an insult in XXI century. Those who managed to leave their cars through the half opened door on the one side of the car only and managed to pull their hand luggage out have to squeeze between multiple ribboned steel hooks hanging from the wall and being pulled down by people passing along this corridor and the cars parked in front of them. I consider myself lucky... (read more)

My mum and i booked a mini break which when I booked I had a 40% off. I booked it online which I was dubious as you had to print it out so i was worried about what i might need so I called to check. We always book an outside lower bed cabin. We have done this trip a few times but that was a few years ago, so didn't think it would be a problem this time round. Easy checking in no waiting about straight on board the ship. When we got on board we had to walk through the car boarding deck 4 ... (read more)

On the outward bound trip to Amsterdam we went to the main lounge to enjoy the evening entertainment. We were met by over a hundred drunken yobs, jumping on chairs, singing football songs, swearing and out of control. We did a U turn and went in the sports bar next to it. The crew came past us carrying part of the roof after it was pulled down, groups were fighting each other, at one point the lady trying to present the entertainment was shouting on her microphone for more security. ... First impressions were not good and it does not change much in the 2 nights spent on board. The reception staff were very good but the passengers who go on primarily to get blotto on drink make it lousy for everyone else. From going on at 3.30pm there were people drinking and I don't mean the odd drink. It's not good publicity to see adults walking round the boat with drinks in hand or going outside and going past groups with cases of beer on deck, bottles and glasses on outside tables just... We travelled down on the bus from Glasgow to Newcastle on the Megabus. Very good value! The Dfds bus collects you just past the train station and gets you to the ship in plenty of time. We boarded the ship and made our way to the cabin. Deck 5....not so good. It's very noisy, I always sleep with ear plugs in, thank god I remembered them. It's as if we where sleeping in the Engine Room. Anyway that was fine, if we go again I would rather be on a higher deck. For the £99 we paid and... (read more)

Went on a mini cruise to amsterdam we upgraded to comadore delux cabins which were lovely plus you get the free beer/wine and snacks ,these cabins are right at the front and the lounge has excellent views ,food and drinks are not cheep but if your going to amsterdam and have a meal and drinks there you'll see that it's cheeper on the boat the bars we went in were between €5 and €6.50 per pint and food was very expensive ,but we were aware of this before we traveled overall our trip was... We left on a Friday for a 'mini-cruise' to Amsterdam. The good points: The ship is fairly nice, and our room was as described - I was actually surprised by how comfortable our bed was. The staff were generally very polite and helpful. 'Guitar George' provided wonderful entertainment in the bar. The bad points: Food and drink is an absolute rip-off. We paid 4 euros for a pint of watered down cola! The food was too expensive on-board so we just took our own snacks - don't pay the rip-off... (read more)

Yesterday my fiance booked a mini cruise online for part of our honeymoon in August this year. This was not a '2 for one' or special offer, just a regular booking. It was shown as a double bedded spacious cabin. The confirmation, however, described a small cabin with bunk beds, so he contacted DFDS by phone but was told that was the only cabin available. Pondering this overnight he decided to cancel the trip altogether but was horrified to be told that the cancellation fee was more than the... (read more)

Having read a lot of the other reviews I was honestly regretting my fiancée having booked a mini valentine's cruise!!! The drive from Birmingham to Newcastle was bearable took just over 3 hrs... landed at Quays shopping centre which is next to the car park... what a little gem of a shopping centre started shopping like crazy and yes there is a cafe/restaurant and a Subway so ate before we boarded all the reviews were saying the ferry was pricey on board the ferry ...YES the food is... We did the mini cruise thing to Amsterdam, going out on the 30th Dec and enjoying Amsterdam for the few hours we were there and travelling back on Hogmanay, bringing in the New Year at sea. The crossing on the way out was rough, and my husband felt it big time, but that might have been something to do with the lovely buffet we ate on the way out. He was a little ill but I was fine, rock and roll it was called on this trip out! The bunks were mega comfy and we had a window right at the... (read more)

The inside cabin was ok with comfy beds, although the en-suite shower room was tatty, chipped sink, dirty grouting and not very clean. The rest of the ship was lovely and the food was very good, although very expensive. The mini cruise was ruined by drunken teenage boys a few cabins down from us banging on doors asking to be let in, then bringing their bags out into the corridor emptying them out looking for passports, screaming and swearing loudly, laughing and general yobbishness at 4am!... My family travel often with DFDS and we always have a pleasant crossing. The staff have always been very proficient and polite on board. We've had no problems with rowdiness, noise or drunks, but we never travel between friday and sunday, so that could explain it. We took the cat last time and I was nervous about leaving him but we experienced no problems. My only real gripe is with the prices onboard for simple things like a bottle of water but they have a "captive audience" so can charge... (read more)

This cruise is only available departing Fridays nights. Normally we go mid week. he problem started with a terminal full of stag and hen parties in high spirits in the departure terminal. Once on board we found all the bars already in full operation and occupied by rowdy youths many who were stag an hens. The drinking was to continue all night until the last bar closed at 5:30am on Saturday morning. In the meantime we went to bed for an early night. With 6 extra security guards on the ship... Me and my husband booked this trip for a romantic 2 day break to see some culture in Amsterdam, although Amsterdam was beautiful the trip was ruined by the people traveling on the boat. The boat was mainly groups of men who were obviously going to Amsterdam for not the same reason as us. HOWEVER these men were nothing compared to a certain girl group that I can only decribe as "VILE". We were unfortunately placed four cabins down from them and did not get a single wink of sleep the whole... (read more)

Well having read some reviews before we left we were a little worried. We arrived in Newcastle in plenty of time and didn't have to wait long to get on the boat really. Once on the boat both steps and lifts are available to get to your deck. We were on deck 8 which turned out to be close to everything you needed which was nice. We put our stuff in our rooms and headed straight for a look around. The boat was tidy and clean and did not smell. It was very well presented and had a lot of... (read more)

After being booked on a mini cruise for over a month and booking the Anne Frank musem in Amsterdam ready for our visit I received a Phone call literally 24 hours before we were due to sail. We wwre not abLe to travel any other time and if we had it would have cost us more. If I didnt oficially cancel the trip before the sailing date( after saying that I needed to talk to my daughter) would have counted as a mnissed departure, how could I miss a departute that was never going to take place.... DFDS SEAWAYS - AKA NORFOLK LINE NEWCASTLE TO AMSTERDAM
CANCELLED MY BOOKING WITH NO COMPENSATION, HARDLY ANY WARNING AND COST ME HUNDREDS OF POUNDS!!
We booked this sailing a month in advance and was looking forward to the trip due to sail on Wednesday 23rd Feb.
On the evening of Monday 21st Feb, less than 48 hours before we were due to sail they phoned us, and told us that the boat was cancelled. There was no apology.
They told us it was because it hadn't come out of dry dock as...

I recently travelled on a minicruise to Amsterdam with DFDS. Room was clean, a little small but expected. We took some snacks on board with us. It is quite expensive on board. I was really enjoying the minicruise until there was some bad weather which caused a massive delay. Instead of getting to Imjuden at 10.30 we arrived at 2 o clock. We were told onboard there was not enough time to go to Amsterdam because of this delay. Instead we were dropped of in a housing scheme near the port with a... (read more)

I booked two nights on board at 1995 prices, two seconds after booking(not a joke) I got an email stating they were offering discounts so I would have saved £10 and got a better cabin. I called them up straight away but they would not change my booking.
The DFDS booking system is basic and easy to follow, loads of extras which can be booked such as breakfast, dinner, beer or wine tasting, canal trips and bus transfers.
There are two buses which leave from central station at 2.45pm and...

My boyfriend and I booked with DFDS for the Newcastle to Amsterdam minicruise as a short getaway for my boyfriend's 21st birthday. We really enjoyed the cruise, we had a very smooth crossing and the cabin was quite spacious (however we did have a four berth for just the 2 of us!) We paid a little extra for a cabin with a window which is definalty worth the expense, having stayed in an inside cabin previously. The check in at boarding and embarkation in both Newcastle and Amsterdam was... (read more)

Just had the same vile Friday night experience on Princess Seaways. Friday night was disturbed all night by groups of young party goers who were allowed to drink and run riot until 5:30 am when the last bar closed.
Complaints to "Customer Service" wer met with "It is best you do not travel on Friday nights". However, this advice is pointless if you are doing the Haarlem mini cruise which only departs on Fridays.
