“Wouldnt give it any stars but needed to share this!!!”

Written on: 28/02/2014 by priddyg (1 review written)

Myself, family & friends travelled with DFDS on Sunday 16th February. We are not happy with the way we were treated by staff & have lodged a complaint. I will most definitely be taking this further. After sending the letter below to DFDS I received a reply saying we must agree to disagree, meaning their bullying security staff are allowed to carry on lying & treat people appallingly. All 8 of our party were in the compass bar enjoying ourselves when a Dutchman came over to my 25 year old… Read Full Review

“Overpriced”

Written on: 09/10/2013 by FREDDYFORG (2 reviews written)

I went over from Newcastle to Amsterdam in my Landcruiser and trailer carrying stuff for my villa on Kefalonia Greece in 2012. It cost me around 250 pounds and was a good crossing and was happy with it. Last Feb I went again with exact same car and trailer full of furniture again for my Kefo villa which cost 250 pounds. At the check in car park the girl ask me what we had on the trailer and I said furniture. I was then pulled over and without anyone checking the load was asked to pay a further… Read Full Review

“Mini cruse Newcastle to Amsterdam ”

Written on: 02/06/2013

The boat.. Not much to do!!!  People drinking own alcohol from cans and wine bottles on the deck. Overpriced food..   We ate the buffet which cost £80 for 2 with 1 drink each. The food was excellent but not worth the money we paid. We also ate at the cafe which is very over priced but the portions were big.  Casino is only a few tables and slot machines more like a arcade. bar was ok it had a guitarist who was singing songs.  The boat was clean.  The cabin was clean but the wall are… Read Full Review

“Great Value”

Written on: 02/06/2013

We travelled as a group of four and got a great deal. Interestingly when we rang DFDS Seaways direct for a price we found there was a £10 booking fee. A friend told me to ring Amsterdam Mini Cruise as you do not pay the booking fee when you ring this number. T Loads to do on the boat and prices weren't as high as I expected. Will definitely do this again… Read Full Review

Many thanks for the tip. I got the DFDS Seaways price then rang Amsterdamminicruise and saved the £10 booking fee but interestingly their price was also £15pp cheaper so I saved £40

“Very Pleasant Trip”

Written on: 31/05/2013 by Richard1964 (1 review written)

The DFDS mini cruise from Newcastle to Amsterdam was a step above what we expected. While it was never going to be at the same level as a full cruise, it was definitely a step up from a ferry. The cabins are very basic but this is reflected in the price. The food choice in the 7 seas buffet restaurant, although overpriced, is excellent and worth booking in advance as we did. Drinks prices are not cheap but probably what you'd expect to pay in a medium quality hotel and, if you look hard… Read Full Review

“avoid if you can”

Written on: 17/05/2013

Selling tickets for the motorist having to park their cars in narrow corridor of Deck 4 and climbing two floors up afterwards is an insult in XXI century. Those who managed to leave their cars through the half opened door on the one side of the car only and managed to pull their hand luggage out have to squeeze between multiple ribboned steel hooks hanging from the wall and being pulled down by people passing along this corridor and the cars parked in front of them. I consider myself lucky to… Read Full Review

“newcastle to amsterdam great trip”

Written on: 09/05/2013

My mum and i booked a mini break which when I booked I had a 40% off. I booked it online which I was dubious as you had to print it out so i was worried about what i might need so I called to check. We always book an outside lower bed cabin. We have done this trip a few times but that was a few years ago, so didn't think it would be a problem this time round. Easy checking in no waiting about straight on board the ship. When we got on board we had to walk through the car boarding deck 4 which… Read Full Review

“Nightmare trip both ways”

Written on: 01/05/2013 by snowball101 (1 review written)

On the outward bound trip to Amsterdam we went to the main lounge to enjoy the evening entertainment. We were met by over a hundred drunken yobs, jumping on chairs, singing football songs, swearing and out of control. We did a U turn and went in the sports bar next to it. The crew came past us carrying part of the roof after it was pulled down, groups were fighting each other, at one point the lady trying to present the entertainment was shouting on her microphone for more security. There… Read Full Review

“First boat trip for us to K.Gdns”

Written on: 30/04/2013

First impressions were not good and it does not change much in the 2 nights spent on board. The reception staff were very good but the passengers who go on primarily to get blotto on drink make it lousy for everyone else. From going on at 3.30pm there were people drinking and I don't mean the odd drink. It's not good publicity to see adults walking round the boat with drinks in hand or going outside and going past groups with cases of beer on deck, bottles and glasses on outside tables just left… Read Full Review

“Dfds Newcastle to Amsterdam ”

Written on: 13/04/2013 by Michelle5178 (1 review written)

We travelled down on the bus from Glasgow to Newcastle on the Megabus. Very good value! The Dfds bus collects you just past the train station and gets you to the ship in plenty of time. We boarded the ship and made our way to the cabin. Deck 5....not so good. It's very noisy, I always sleep with ear plugs in, thank god I remembered them. It's as if we where sleeping in the Engine Room. Anyway that was fine, if we go again I would rather be on a higher deck. For the £99 we paid and that… Read Full Review

Went on a mini cruise to amsterdam we upgraded to comadore delux cabins which were lovely plus you get the free beer/wine and snacks ,these cabins are right at the front and the lounge has excellent views ,food and drinks are not cheep but if your going to amsterdam and have a meal and drinks there you'll see that it's cheeper on the boat the bars we went in were between €5 and €6.50 per pint and food was very expensive ,but we were aware of this before we traveled overall our trip was very… Read Full Review

Hi there, how did you find the day trip to Amsterdam? Did they help you out with tips on where to go and how to get there?

We are going in Feb and aren't really sure where to go when we get into Amsterdam.

Thanks in advance.

“Horrific”

Written on: 10/03/2013

We left on a Friday for a 'mini-cruise' to Amsterdam. The good points: The ship is fairly nice, and our room was as described - I was actually surprised by how comfortable our bed was. The staff were generally very polite and helpful. 'Guitar George' provided wonderful entertainment in the bar. The bad points: Food and drink is an absolute rip-off. We paid 4 euros for a pint of watered down cola! The food was too expensive on-board so we just took our own snacks - don't pay the rip-off… Read Full Review

“Exhorbitant cancellation fee”

Written on: 26/02/2013

Yesterday my fiance booked a mini cruise online for part of our honeymoon in August this year. This was not a '2 for one' or special offer, just a regular booking. It was shown as a double bedded spacious cabin. The confirmation, however, described a small cabin with bunk beds, so he contacted DFDS by phone but was told that was the only cabin available. Pondering this overnight he decided to cancel the trip altogether but was horrified to be told that the cancellation fee was more than the… Read Full Review

“Valentines Mini Cruise from Newcastle to Amsterdam”

Written on: 19/02/2013

Having read a lot of the other reviews I was honestly regretting my fiancée having booked a mini valentine's cruise!!! The drive from Birmingham to Newcastle was bearable took just over 3 hrs... landed at Quays shopping centre which is next to the car park... what a little gem of a shopping centre started shopping like crazy and yes there is a cafe/restaurant and a Subway so ate before we boarded all the reviews were saying the ferry was pricey on board the ferry ...YES the food is… Read Full Review

“First time on DFDS - Great”

Written on: 25/01/2013

We did the mini cruise thing to Amsterdam, going out on the 30th Dec and enjoying Amsterdam for the few hours we were there and travelling back on Hogmanay, bringing in the New Year at sea. The crossing on the way out was rough, and my husband felt it big time, but that might have been something to do with the lovely buffet we ate on the way out. He was a little ill but I was fine, rock and roll it was called on this trip out! The bunks were mega comfy and we had a window right at the prow… Read Full Review

“NOISY DRUNKEN YOBS! NOTHING AT ALL DONE ABOUT IT.”

Written on: 18/10/2012 by mfielding (1 review written)

The inside cabin was ok with comfy beds, although the en-suite shower room was tatty, chipped sink, dirty grouting and not very clean. The rest of the ship was lovely and the food was very good, although very expensive. The mini cruise was ruined by drunken teenage boys a few cabins down from us banging on doors asking to be let in, then bringing their bags out into the corridor emptying them out looking for passports, screaming and swearing loudly, laughing and general yobbishness at 4am!… Read Full Review

“DFDS Newcastle - Ijmuiden”

Written on: 09/09/2012

My family travel often with DFDS and we always have a pleasant crossing. The staff have always been very proficient and polite on board. We've had no problems with rowdiness, noise or drunks, but we never travel between friday and sunday, so that could explain it. We took the cat last time and I was nervous about leaving him but we experienced no problems. My only real gripe is with the prices onboard for simple things like a bottle of water but they have a "captive audience" so can charge what… Read Full Review
