“Worked well for me”

Written on: 29/04/2016 by audibobby (1 review written)

Tried to book an intensive course in South Yorkshire and best quote was £160 dearer with no firm test dates. West Pennine offered guaranteed test dates and free accommodation at an unbeatable price. The staff and instructors I had were first rate from initial contact to completion of training and the guest house was spotless and served the best breakfast the wrong side of the Pennines. I would recommend the DAS course to anyone who appreciates the effort needed to achieve the standard required… Read Full Review

What can I say I did my home work on training schools for my direct access corse West Pennine came top of the list and highly recommended and now I can see why. With one quick and easy phone call my course was booked they sorted me with bed and breakfast with a fantastic host. They have a good training set up for doing your cbt and mod 1 training fantastic instructors with plenty of patience and a good array of bikes from 125 cc up to 600cc I spent the three days on and off road training and… Read Full Review

“Excellent training by professionals”

Written on: 16/03/2016 by RussMoorhouse (1 review written)

A big thanks ("that would be a test fail" words I heard less and less and less as my training my went on), ( don't think I didn't see you hitting your face with your hand when I couldn't start a bike on the CBT but under whose expert tutelage I managed to pass the CBT the next day) and the other instructors at West Pennine. In 6 days I went from somebody who had never ridden a bike to being fully qualified. My advice for anybody taking the course is listen to the instructors they're the… Read Full Review

Professional, knowledgeable trainers who got me through my direct access. Passed the module 2 test with only 1 minor and hadn't sat on a motorbike for 20 years until turning up at West Pennine the week before. Would highly recommend, they even got me time in the module 1 test area the day before my test… Read Full Review

“Passed after shaky start.”

Written on: 15/08/2015 by antcave (1 review written)

Just got my CBT this morning 15/8/15 after a pretty bad first attempt on the 12th. Went back and did it ok. I would like to thank the advisor for his patience with me and explaining everything clearly. For someone who has never even sat on a bike let alone ridden one on a public highway I was rather nervous but was put at ease by the way he spoke about how to approach riding on the road. Once again thank you very much. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend West Pennine… Read Full Review

“Shocking school!”

Written on: 14/08/2015 by christoph.lawrence (1 review written)

This school was a total waste of money for me. After spending nearly a thousand pounds arranging the trip to the school and accommodation, I was not permitted to take my test on bike large enough to pass my DAS, due to the fact that I made some mistakes on the road. Although they did offer me some “off road” training on a medium-sized bike, if I didn’t take my theory test (it was booked on a training day due to a problem with my licence). That still would have left me in a position… Read Full Review

You turned up without licence, this caused a major compromise on the course, you lost a day going for an out of area theory.

To quote our response to your email...

Its still going to be very hairy with your licence not turned up yet and with the best of intentions things may not all go to plan, if you paid in full for the course (plus one already booked theory) we would move it to a later date without loss of deposit. Or are you committed with other things like flights?'

Hence We offered to move course to solve the problem.

Our response to you at time.

Would prefer to talk rather than email, office is open till 8pm on phones.
I can’t override you instructors decision, potentially that would be negligent, the considerations are firstly your safety, then the safety of others (other road users, fellow trainees, instructors etc) and finally the risk of damage to property (including our bikes).
However he did say that you where just about at a standard to try off road on an intermediate bike (500). You are coming at the training from a very inexperienced level and as a non UK resident some addition traffic comprehension issues, so you need to look at how far you have got rather than what is still to do.
Your theory is booked for tomorrow but, as we said it may be, it is quite out of area, you will need to catch a train, one goes out from Blackburn at 9am I believe.
If you go for your theory it will take up most of tomorrow mainly in travel time so little time would be left if any for training. Alternatively you could train tomorrow see where you get to and put the theory in next time you are over with no issues re lost licences. I enclose details of the theory and a train timetable / booking site link you will need to be at the theory station as per the time and you must take both parts of your licence with you.

Personally in this situation I would advise doing the training and sort the theory at a future date.
Let me know if you are training or going for theory.

So, after sharing my experience, which is totally true by the way, you think the most professional thing to do is to release my driving licence details and copies of private emails? I've taken a screen shot, and I will be reporting this to the police. This is very illegal.

First time bike user and can I say the patience and confidence given by the instructors were brilliant. Clear and effectively I was told what I needed to do as well as having a friendly attitude made it a much better enviroment to ride a motorbike in. When on road they had radios telling me where I needed to go and what I needed to do better next time, I felt safe and confident with there training and past! “Great training, Great people, Would recommend!”

Written on: 25/02/2015

First time on a manual bike and I have to say how comfortable I felt being trained by people who had a great knowledge of motorbikes. I didn't feel rushed at all by the instructor and could take my time when I was struggling at first, detailed explanations on what I needed to do got me there in the end! On the road was scary but having the instructor who was calm and very supportive on the radio telling what I was doing right and things I needed to improve on made it even better. “Expert, patient and understanding staff for a novice!”

Written on: 12/02/2015 by JRobinson222 (1 review written)

Hi! I recently passed my CBT at the West Pennine bike school, having never ridden before (or even sat on a bike!). Highly recommended school. At first a very daunting experience (taking up a late interest in biking) I was made to feel comfortable with an introductory hour or two, running me through the basic bike controls and necessary gear. Which did ease the nerves. Any question I asked was dealt with professionally, and the instructor understood I was keen to learn as much about biking as… Read Full Review

Booked a one day never ridden CBT course that are usually around 6-8 hours in total. Including a 2 hour on road session. Firstly I arrived and a small fenced off square of an industrial estate which turn out to be the training centre with basic facilities in what appears to be storage units but fair enough they do the job and everything you need is there. I was booked on a course with 1 other trainee, who was on a moped and had previously passed her CBT just had to renew it. We did an hours… Read Full Review

Hello sorry you felt this way.
For your safety and the safety of other road users you need to be at a reasonable standard of control to go on the public highway.
As you know the other half of your training day was on hold (including road ride) as it was not possible to both continue your off road training and take [name removed] on road for her two hour CBT road run. This was fully gone through in the initial briefing, the course was not booked as one to one training but we gave you an option to do that but one to one is dearer and you did not want to pay for it.
As explained you would have needed extra time above and beyond that booked as you had no riding experience, a provisional licence and wanted to learn on a manual bike and were progressing slowly.
To 'Guarantee' a CBT pass in a day means that the school would have to issue a CBT certificate regardless of the trainees ability ie running red lights , crashing or even going the wrong way down a one way street would have to be acceptable, at least one local school has been shut down for substandard CBT.
Refunds are not given if training is not completed through no fault of ours, this is clear in out t&c's.
I am very sorry things did not go as you wanted but I feel that you just underestimated what was required, I run to a high standard and don't cut corners just to issue a CBT and keep someone happy,
Better unhappy and alive.

I only wish I had found this school earlier when I first started learning to ride, and can only hope that others will follow me with West Pennine. I gained so much confidence after my instruction on the morning of my afternoon MOD 2 test, I'm convinced it helped me pass. Highly recommended… Read Full Review

“Big thanks to WPM Training!”

Written on: 18/06/2014 by dougalmack (1 review written)

Many thanks to all at West Pennine Motorcycle Training for getting me through my motorcycle test. I passed both tests with NO minors, starting off the course as an absolute novice, but that's entirely down to the patience and thorough training given to me by the instructors - again, many thanks guys! The instructors made it a really enjoyable experience, not all seriousness but done with great communication and a laugh and a joke when appropriate!! I will certainly recommend WPM to my friends… Read Full Review
