I've had a similar experience to another reviewer here - they suspended my account for no obvious reason, although they're now stating they thought there may have been a fraudulant transaction (not that they alerted me about this...). Either way it's been over a month since I could access my account online and they keep saying they're doing something about but have spectacularly failed to sort it out or tell me how it happened. It's now going to take my 5 working days to close the account - yawn.
I will never recommend them for business use - in fact I would actively advise anyone against it.

I am not a demanding customer, I use this account for my part-time professional freelance activities so some months very little goes in or out. All went well for many years but last month they suddenly suspended my access to online banking. My card was due to expire at the end of the month and apparently they had - without telling me - sent the new card to a branch who knows where, to await collection. In spite of the fact that they send me statements every month they claimed not to have my addr ...- Read Guest's review (200 words)

My Abbey account has been operating successfully except. They insisted I had a credit card which I didn't want - easy to get around that I accepted it and then didn't use it.
When I moved - I couldnt change my address online. I couldn't remember one piece of my telephone security information so I had to go into the branch. I had to go a second time as whoever took the details didn't action it.
I've been without online banking access since they changed the login method; 3 times I've tried to ...- Read Guest's review (147 words)

We would give Abbey Business Account 0 stars if possible - and would not recommend them to anyone. Their total incompentence has led us to change to HSBC after a year of complete hassle from them. HSBC have also had difficulties in getting any information from them regarding changing accounts. Abbey stopped an online payment to HMRC without any warning, then paid it twice, despite plenty of funds being available. Abbey declined a DD to Yellow Pages with no reason, yet never once were we advised ...- Read Guest's review (116 words)

Two years ago I opened an Abbey Business Account - the main reason was I needed an account fast and as a personal customer I thought it would be very simple (I was awaiting my driving licence as ID so was unable to approach another bank at the time). How wrong was I. I applied in January and then despite almost daily, frantic calls I was continually fobbed off with all manner of excuses - backlog, "it will be done by ......" was the usual excuse but of course never happened. By the time I rec ...- Read Guest's review (232 words)

Abbey can not do fast payment, also when receiving some payment quite slow, you can see the change in balance, but you could not get details until next business day, do not recommend it.- Read Guest's review (34 words)

Bad: Very difficult to do international payments through abbey since one has to request a form, wait until it is delivered in the post, fill it in, return it and then wait for the money to be sent. EVERY TIME! This is a real pain for an import company like mine.
Good: no fees on having the account. This account would be fine if one only did business within the UK.

Abbey Business Accounts has the most abysmal administration I have ever encountered in any organisation, not merely just banks. If you only want on-line, and never need anything else, then you'll be OK, otherwise its akin to dealing with a sponge. Send something to them by post and there is never a response, not matter how many times you send the same request.
And that is my experience from 3 accounts !
Of course it really is "free" so that is why we hang on in there.- Read geoffpedlar's review (85 words)

As a company we are very disappointed. I have a personal account but never needed to use the bank on weekly bases. Their promise and timing is absolutely "nil". The service slow and the staff are unfriendly. I have spoken to at least 5 from a customer service. They are all rude. I have never complained or wrote a review about a person or organisation and this must be the first and last time I would write, because I don't believe there is an origination as low and as bad as this. I am shocked and ...- Read Guest's review (108 words)

If you want a prime example of a company that talks proudly of its customer service ethos but doesn't do anything to actually serve its customers, look no further than Abbey. I couldn't even speak to someone to close my account today, because none of the telephone menu choices offer that option, and when I did speak to someone - TWICE (in a polite, calm and reasonable tone)- they both put me back to the same menu!- Read Guest's review (116 words)

The free banking on Abbey Business Accounts etc is a plus but the reluctance of high street staff to help or advise is annoying! Even though they partly deal with unloading of atm they still cant help !! Online side of things are ok but unmanned acccounts has caused me problems. I set up a regular payment but I put in wrong account number 1 I didnt realise and money was being paid back into my account without me knowing!- Read Guest's review (101 words)

I have been trying to access my Abbey business account on line since they changed the website before christmas. I have telephoned several times and they tell me I need a debit card to run my account. Each time they say that they will send me one-but I am still waiting. I have recommended this account to my clients- i hope they are not having the same problems.- Read cjones22's review (68 words)

I'm surprised by the amount of negative reviews on this site concerning Abbeys free business banking. I've just started up on my own as a Sole Trader and filled in all the necessary paperwork. The account was opened about 2 weeks later. I received a cheque book, paying in book, debit card and paying in envelopes. So far the service has been flawless and I can't recommend them enough. If you stay within their guidelines the account remains free of bank charges, plus you'll make a small amount of ...- Read alanhayward's review (157 words and 4 comments)

Have had a devil of a job trying to even report a problem where customers have had money taken from their accounts but it hasn't been credited to mine. This happened in December and am still trying to get them even to acknowledge that I've got a problem. Or rather they have as they've taken the money but not credited it to me.
Am seriously looking to move away from Abbey Business Account to a paid for account as time wasted on the phone is a joke. Especially as you have to go over and over th ...- Read Guest's review (126 words)

Abbey took £2K out of my account in error and so far taken 2 weeks not to return it. I Couldn't seem to access my business account for 2 weeks after internet upgrade. I was unable to pay cheques in by post for the two months it took them to get envelopes to me. I tried to open a second account and they seemed confused about how many forms of identification i needed. When I complained they replied to my ex business partner in a different company name about the complaint.- Read pleedham's review (90 words)

Abbey Business Accounts offer free banking for basic transactions. At first didn't have problem as we just pay cheques in through cashmachine and draw money. Then one of the credits with 56 cheques went missing. They could not find them and advised us we would have to contact every one of our customers and get them to stop the cheques and issue new ones. This was impractical to say the least. They eventually found them 3 weeks later and said they had been been found in someones tray. More recen ...- Read tonyslim's review (300 words)

This is only my opinion but it is based on my experiences with Abbey Business Accounts to date. My business partner and I decided to take the plunge and set up in a new business. For this we needed a business bank account. We needed it quickly as we had customer contracts to win, and we needed to show our banking details. I looked on the internet and from a list of the Top 5 deals we plumped for Abbey. Free banking, just what we needed. I also had a personal account with Abbey and hadn't experi ...- Read The Hon Man's review (259 words)

Abbey Business Accounts call centre staff are good and try their best to help with the weird problems that customers may have.
Recent web "upgrade" has caused me so many problems and I feel like I've wasted hours of my time. I feel like charging them my normal hourly rate. they also blocked my debit card because - SHOCK HORROR! - I used it to pay for a trainticket! I must have entered the right PIN otherwise it wouldn't have worked! So why block it?? I could have been stranded somewhere, unabl ...- Read Guest's review (114 words)
